02/04/2015 Weather for the Week Ahead

Hello there. As is often the case, we saw quite a variety of weather

across the United Kingdom to start the weekend.

For some of us, it was a rather dull and damp affair.

This is the view from one of our Weather Watchers in Cumbria -

fair bit of cloud and some rain.

But it certainly wasn't like that for all places,

in fact this is the view from one of our Weather Watchers,

Saturday afternoon in Somerset.

Lovely view across the fields, lots of sunshine.

In fact, in the sunshine, further east, around the Wash

and towards the London area, we got up to about 16 Celsius.

And for the second part of the weekend,

we'll go a couple of degrees higher than that.

Again, it looks like it'll be central and eastern parts of the UK

that will see the highest temperatures, 17 or 18 Celsius.

It's going to be a lovely day for many central and eastern parts -

variable cloud, some sunshine, light winds and feeling pleasantly warm.

However, further north and further west,

we've got a lot more cloud, outbreaks of rain.

It's not going to rain all day everywhere,

but the rain in the south and west could turn more persistent

into the afternoon. When you get the cloud and the rain,

it's 10 or 11 Celsius, but for central and eastern areas

it's 17 or 18 Celsius, at the highest.

Some places maybe only 13 or 14,

but still a pleasant feel to the day for many.

However, it does change through the evening

as this rain sweeps its way ever northwards

and there's a bit more coming in from the south as well.

So, Monday, it looks like low pressure is in charge of the weather

and it will be drifting its way ever northwards,

taking the wettest weather and the stronger winds with it.

But Monday itself does look like a fairly changeable sort of day.

It'll be wet and windy to start across much of Scotland,

that will drift its way into the western side of Scotland.

Northern Ireland, wet and windy start,

but we'll see some showers coming in as it brightens up

and there'll be heavy showers across England and Wales.

Top temperature by this stage around about 13 or 14 Celsius.

And then through Monday night, into Tuesday,

low pressure still in charge of the weather across the north of the UK,

that means it'll be the focal point

for some showers during the day on Tuesday.

The strongest winds will be in the north as well.

But overall on Tuesday it's a much drier picture.

Still a few showers for some central and eastern parts of England,

but a lot of dry and bright weather on Tuesday.

15 Celsius will be the top temperature,

many other places around about 10 or 11 Celsius.

But a big change through the middle of the week,

as this weather front drifts its way from west to east.

Behind it, this cool-ish north-westerly breeze

is going to bring a real change in the air mass.

We've got a complete change in the air, to be honest,

from something quite mild to something that bit cooler.

And it looks like that cooler air

will be drifting down from the north through Thursday

and will still be with us on into the end of the week.

So, temperatures will be dipping away from midweek onwards.

And we see that change beginning on Wednesday.

It's actually a decent start

for some central and eastern areas, some sunshine,

but clouding over all the while as rain comes in from the west.

Temperatures 14 Celsius ahead of that weather front,

but only eight or nine behind it.

So that's the change in the feel of things.

Turning things much fresher and cooler.

And we've got the air coming down from the north

through the day on Thursday.

Quite a noticeable wind across all parts of the UK.

Looks like it'll be a day of sunny spells

and some quite blustery showers.

Might see 12 Celsius in the southeast,

but many places struggling to get into double figures.

And then it settles down to some degree for the end of the week.

We get this brief ridge of high pressure,

and it will be quite brief.

It's going to be shunted out of the way pretty quickly,

so it's all change into the weekend, with the low pressure taking over.

And this area of low pressure looks like it'll park itself

toward the south, the southwest of the UK, through next weekend,

and it'll last on into the following week.

So even on into the following week it does look pretty unsettled.

There'll be some rain at times, but also going some drier spells,

and when you get the drier spells overnight, clear skies,

it will turn quite chilly,

maybe even a touch of frost in the outlook.
