Hi there. It's fair to say we've come out of one week of fairly turbulent

0:00:030:00:06

weather, and we're about to go into one that's not very dissimilar.

0:00:060:00:10

Now, we will see some brighter skies on the horizon like we did

0:00:100:00:13

in this shot from one of our Weather Watchers in Scotland yesterday,

0:00:130:00:16

but the week ahead will still have those very windy spells,

0:00:160:00:19

gales or severe gales around some hills and coasts.

0:00:190:00:22

Quite a bit of wet weather for some.

0:00:220:00:23

That will raise the risk of flooding here and there,

0:00:230:00:26

but there will be milder weather to come through the week.

0:00:260:00:28

What's driving this turbulent pattern is the temperature

0:00:280:00:31

contrast across the North Atlantic, which extends towards our shores.

0:00:310:00:34

In-between the two we see a very strong, active jet stream.

0:00:340:00:37

That fires up the deep areas of low pressure which push towards us.

0:00:370:00:40

And whilst we clear cold air out towards northern Europe,

0:00:400:00:43

we bring in another one through Monday.

0:00:430:00:45

It bring milder air to southern parts.

0:00:450:00:47

As it hits the colder air further north, this is where we'll see

0:00:470:00:50

snow, of course, on the hills of northern England, Scotland

0:00:500:00:52

and Northern Ireland, outbreaks of rain south of that.

0:00:520:00:55

Dry moments towards the south coast,

0:00:550:00:57

but it's here where the strongest winds will be through Monday,

0:00:570:01:00

gusts of 40, maybe 50mph, but temperatures in double figures.

0:01:000:01:03

North of our area of rain,

0:01:030:01:05

this is where cold air tries a fightback later on.

0:01:050:01:08

Four or five degrees at best for Scotland, Northern Ireland

0:01:080:01:10

and the far north of England,

0:01:100:01:12

and it's here where a very cold night will follow.

0:01:120:01:14

But that battle between cold and warmer air continues into Tuesday,

0:01:140:01:19

the cold air starting to be squeezed out once again by the milder

0:01:190:01:22

air by the end of Monday night. 12 Celsius across the south.

0:01:220:01:25

In Scotland, where there's snow lying on the ground in rural parts

0:01:250:01:29

we could see temperatures of around minus ten.

0:01:290:01:33

But through Tuesday, we'll see a drastic, drastic change here.

0:01:330:01:37

Now, the mild air pushes in the south-west winds.

0:01:370:01:39

Outbreaks of rain to begin with.

0:01:390:01:40

Similar sort of areas to Monday, pushing its way

0:01:400:01:43

northwards, snow even to lower

0:01:430:01:44

levels across parts of Scotland but eventually turning back to rain.

0:01:440:01:48

And by the end of the day,

0:01:480:01:49

we're into south-westerly winds, temperatures at, if not above,

0:01:490:01:52

where it should be for the time of year.

0:01:520:01:54

Big contrast to what we've seen in Scotland.

0:01:540:01:56

Very murky conditions with the outbreaks of rain,

0:01:560:01:58

a little bit drier and brighter to the south-east.

0:01:580:02:00

We're in a warm sector as we go through into Wednesday,

0:02:000:02:03

but the cold air tries to push back as another deep area of low

0:02:030:02:05

pressure pushes to the north-west of the UK.

0:02:050:02:08

A blustery day across the board,

0:02:080:02:09

driest for longest in the south and east, quite a squally

0:02:090:02:12

cold front pushing its way eastwards, bouts of heavy rain,

0:02:120:02:15

gusty winds, brighter later on, but then this little hook.

0:02:150:02:18

This is only a low risk at the moment,

0:02:180:02:20

but it could produce some very nasty winds to end Wednesday

0:02:200:02:24

and go through the night for a short time.

0:02:240:02:26

It turns quieter into Thursday morning, another frosty start,

0:02:260:02:29

bright start across some northern areas with lighter winds.

0:02:290:02:32

Stronger winds developing through the English Channel,

0:02:320:02:35

but it's the day of lightest winds.

0:02:350:02:37

But across these southernmost areas

0:02:370:02:38

the potential for some heavy and persistent rain

0:02:380:02:41

and, given the ground is saturated, river levels high,

0:02:410:02:43

that could cause some flooding issues.

0:02:430:02:46

As it pulls away, that rain, the potential for strong and gusty winds.

0:02:460:02:49

But then we switch fortunes around to Friday,

0:02:490:02:52

a ridge of high pressure in the south, drier and brighter,

0:02:520:02:54

less windy with what will happen further north, strong and gusty

0:02:540:02:57

winds, outbreaks of rain, becoming heavy and persistent later.

0:02:570:03:00

But it's south-westerly winds, temperatures on the up yet again.

0:03:000:03:03

And then a very windy spell to take us through the night

0:03:030:03:05

and into the start of the weekend.

0:03:050:03:07

But just look at our temperature chart again for this weekend,

0:03:070:03:10

these fluctuating temperatures,

0:03:100:03:11

which will continue through the weekend and into next week, too.

0:03:110:03:15

See-saw temperatures, in that some days will be milder, some colder.

0:03:150:03:18

A small chance of snow

0:03:180:03:19

in Scotland and the hills of northern England and Northern Ireland,

0:03:190:03:23

but still very windy at times.

0:03:230:03:24

But the chance of something a little bit drier for a little bit

0:03:240:03:28

longer in the south and the east. Take care.

0:03:280:03:31

This is the FA Cup and anything can happen.

0:03:340:03:36

Unbelievable!

0:03:360:03:38

What a goal!

0:03:380:03:39

Altrincham are FA Cup giant killers once again.
