Hello there.

0:00:030:00:04

Heavy rain, snow, ice, gales were all in the forecast on Thursday.

0:00:040:00:07

For Friday, some respite from the rain

0:00:070:00:10

for parts of England and Wales,

0:00:100:00:11

particularly the Midlands, northern England

0:00:110:00:14

and North Wales, but later in the day,

0:00:140:00:16

we've got our next deep Atlantic low

0:00:160:00:18

rushing towards the north-west of the UK

0:00:180:00:19

and those tightly-packed isobars

0:00:190:00:21

mean that we are in for another spell

0:00:210:00:23

of gale-force winds, if not severe gale-force winds.

0:00:230:00:25

But as I mentioned, for many, it'll be dry and bright.

0:00:250:00:27

A little bit icy across Scotland to start

0:00:270:00:29

and here, as the day wears on,

0:00:290:00:31

we get the rain back but for many of us,

0:00:310:00:33

it is a drier picture.

0:00:330:00:34

It's mild as well and, of course,

0:00:340:00:36

that, for Scotland, means that the snow thaw

0:00:360:00:38

will continue so we've got the snow

0:00:380:00:40

and the rain falling into those river catchments.

0:00:400:00:42

So, again, there's a risk of flooding.

0:00:420:00:44

And some pretty lively winds

0:00:440:00:46

come the evening rush hour,

0:00:460:00:47

I think it'll be quite nasty on the roads.

0:00:470:00:49

60-70mph gusts of wind, possibly even more,

0:00:490:00:51

so there is the likelihood of some travel disruption on Friday evening,

0:00:510:00:55

across Scotland in particular, parts of Northern Ireland.

0:00:550:00:58

It's the combination of the rain and gales as well

0:00:580:01:00

which will make it pretty miserable.

0:01:000:01:01

And then through Friday evening and overnight,

0:01:010:01:04

that rain just keeps coming down

0:01:040:01:05

into already-saturated grounds and catchments

0:01:050:01:07

and slowly eases into northern England

0:01:070:01:10

and North Wales as we approach Saturday morning

0:01:100:01:12

so, unfortunately, it's more of the same.

0:01:120:01:13

It's mild at least but rather grey

0:01:130:01:15

in the south despite staying largely dry here.

0:01:150:01:18

However, we are concerned that the same sort

0:01:180:01:21

of areas where we've had flooding recently

0:01:210:01:23

will be prone to some very wet weather

0:01:230:01:24

this weekend with another area of low pressure

0:01:240:01:27

developing along that weather front

0:01:270:01:29

for Saturday night into Sunday.

0:01:290:01:31

So, we could have a steady 36 hours of rain,

0:01:310:01:33

potentially, for some parts of Northern Ireland,

0:01:330:01:35

Scotland, North Wales and northern England.

0:01:350:01:38

Those winds really whipping up as well

0:01:380:01:40

further south on Saturday so gale-force

0:01:400:01:42

or severe gale-force winds across many areas

0:01:420:01:44

so it's not going to feel particularly nice

0:01:440:01:46

considering temperatures will be above average

0:01:460:01:48

and particularly with the rain.

0:01:480:01:50

Then through Saturday night,

0:01:500:01:51

there could be a spell of snow across the far north again.

0:01:510:01:54

Eventually, it looks like that weather front

0:01:540:01:56

will slip southwards on Sunday.

0:01:560:01:57

It never goes very far away but it does tend to weaken,

0:01:570:02:00

the winds eventually easing a little bit

0:02:000:02:03

but not altogether but they do at least then allow us

0:02:030:02:05

a drier, slightly calmer day in the north.

0:02:050:02:07

But, look, that weather front's still with us

0:02:070:02:09

and you think you've seen enough of it

0:02:090:02:11

over the weekend but, unfortunately,

0:02:110:02:12

it looks set to come back again into the start

0:02:120:02:14

of the new week

0:02:140:02:15

so, yes, unfortunately, yet more rain to come.

0:02:150:02:17

Similar areas, it's still mild in the south

0:02:170:02:19

but there could be some snow for a time in the north

0:02:190:02:22

and again, a spell of fairly windy weather.

0:02:220:02:24

It doesn't look as windy as the weekend but nevertheless

0:02:240:02:26

the wind and the rain making for

0:02:260:02:28

a fairly miserable start to the week.

0:02:280:02:29

And you can see those

0:02:290:02:30

tightly-packed isobars in the north -

0:02:300:02:32

they're not too far away from our shores.

0:02:320:02:34

And we've still got that weather front

0:02:340:02:36

wiggling around across the UK on Tuesday

0:02:360:02:38

but after that, hopefully, just a sign

0:02:380:02:40

that things might quieten down just for a day or so.

0:02:400:02:43

But Tuesday, again, looks pretty unsettled.

0:02:430:02:46

Slightly chillier in the north

0:02:460:02:47

with a few wintry showers

0:02:470:02:49

falling to the hills of Scotland.

0:02:490:02:51

But as I mentioned, a little further ahead again,

0:02:510:02:53

we could have this brief ridge of high pressure.

0:02:530:02:55

Now, as it does,

0:02:550:02:56

it allows a slightly different wind direction across the UK.

0:02:560:02:59

Still those weather fronts close by but then that high,

0:02:590:03:03

if it does start to topple in across the UK,

0:03:030:03:06

it'll switch our wind direction more to a north-westerly

0:03:060:03:08

so that will allow this colder air to come around that high pressure,

0:03:080:03:11

pushing the milder air away for a while which means it'll be

0:03:110:03:14

chillier at least for a time.

0:03:140:03:16

But on the whole, even though

0:03:160:03:17

we're expecting that slightly quieter spell of weather,

0:03:170:03:20

lighter winds and feeling colder,

0:03:200:03:22

we then revert back to more unsettled weather towards the end of the week.

0:03:220:03:25

And between now and then,

0:03:250:03:27

lots to talk about,

0:03:270:03:28

the weather warnings

0:03:280:03:30

are on the website.
