Hello there. Our new year brought with it a new feel to the weather - | 0:00:03 | 0:00:07
a cold, crisp, frosty start for many of us, | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
even with a light dusting of snow in the Highlands as well. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
And, for a time, there was a good deal of dry weather in the forecast. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:16
Unfortunately, that is not set to last as we move into the weekend. | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19
Weather warnings have been issued for eastern Scotland, | 0:00:19 | 0:00:23
which means be prepared for further disruption | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
due to the intensity of the rain. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
Further flooding is certainly not out of the question. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:31
Let's take a look at what's going to happen. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
Two areas of low pressure for the weekend, | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
one for Saturday, | 0:00:35 | 0:00:36
another starting to move in for Sunday. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
That's going to bring further spells | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
of wet and pretty windy weather, | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
particularly down to the south-west | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
first thing on Saturday. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:45
Bands of rain continue to push | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
steadily north through the day, | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
circulating around that area of low pressure, | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
so it's going to be a pretty wet, | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
cool, unsettled afternoon | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
for many and, at times, quite windy. | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
Highs likely of 8 to 12 degrees, | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
with the rain pretty much grinding to a halt | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
across the far north-east of Scotland. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
Those showers or bands of rain continue | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
through the night in the north-east | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
and then the next area of low pressure | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
moves in during Sunday morning. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:11
For a time there will be some | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
heavy rain across the south-west | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
and into Wales, | 0:01:15 | 0:01:16
but it is moving through and it will continue | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
to push into the north-east of Scotland, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
where here we're expecting it | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
to stagnate for quite some time | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
through Sunday afternoon and overnight, | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
hence the cause for concern | 0:01:26 | 0:01:27
for possibility of further flooding. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:30
Six to eight degrees for the north, | 0:01:30 | 0:01:31
ten to 11 further south. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:34
That area of low pressure really | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
stays in the driving seat during | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
the first half of Monday. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
It will slowly slip its way south | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
and west, still the winds very much | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
a feature, but eventually we will see | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
an area of high pressure | 0:01:46 | 0:01:47
across eastern Europe, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:48
starting to influence the | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
weather into the north, | 0:01:50 | 0:01:51
so things will turn a little bit colder | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
for the start of next week, | 0:01:53 | 0:01:54
hopefully a little bit quieter as well. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
The first signs of that during Monday. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
We will have some showers first thing | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
in the far north-east, | 0:02:00 | 0:02:01
but they will steadily ease through the day. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
Temperatures sitting at around six degrees here. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
Further showers closer to that low pressure | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
the further south and west you are. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
The low slowly drifting its way | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
across the south-west of England | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
during Monday night into Tuesday, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:17
allowing that colder air to start to | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
sink its way in from Scandinavia. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
And an eastly breeze as well, | 0:02:21 | 0:02:22
so an exposed North Sea coast. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
It will feel notably different out there, | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
but a drier story across Scotland, | 0:02:26 | 0:02:27
Northern Ireland | 0:02:27 | 0:02:28
and eventually northern England on Tuesday - | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
further showers remaining down to the south. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
It's during Tuesday night into Wednesday, | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
when the low pushes off into the near continent, | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
and we see a quieter theme of weather for a time | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
before more fronts wait out in the wings. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
On Wednesday, there is a potential | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
for some dry, sunnier spells of weather, | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
something a little more optimistic, | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
but noticeably for most of us - | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
three to eight or nine | 0:02:51 | 0:02:52
degrees is the maximum. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
It looks as though the jet stream | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
through the longer six-to-ten-day period | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
continues to split into two, so weakening | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
because of that area of high pressure | 0:03:00 | 0:03:03
that's in eastern Europe, | 0:03:03 | 0:03:04
the blocking high, | 0:03:04 | 0:03:05
preventing the jet stream from having | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
a significant impact. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:08
That means that the low pressures | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
will tend to sit down to the south and west, | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
where we're likely to see perhaps | 0:03:12 | 0:03:13
more potential for rain here, | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
but it continues to stay | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
cold to the north, so that means | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
that any showers that we get | 0:03:19 | 0:03:20
could fall as snow | 0:03:20 | 0:03:21
to the far north of Scotland. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
Winds will return later on in the week, | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
so still plenty to play for, | 0:03:25 | 0:03:26
but keep watching the weather forecast | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
as we move through the weekend. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30
My findings at the inquest argued for suicide. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
Now I've missed a murder. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:37
You do not have to say anything but it may harm your defence | 0:03:37 | 0:03:41
if you fail to mention when questioned | 0:03:41 | 0:03:43
something you later rely on in court. | 0:03:43 | 0:03:45 |
