We'll see some pretty big changes with the weather patterns,

0:00:030:00:05

both on the large scale

0:00:050:00:07

and with the wind direction across the UK in the coming days.

0:00:070:00:10

But the main theme, even as we head into the first part of March,

0:00:100:00:13

is it's going to be staying on the cold side.

0:00:130:00:16

Quite a bit of sunshine during Thursday,

0:00:160:00:18

which will soon lift the temperatures,

0:00:180:00:20

starting below freezing, up to between 3 and 8 Celsius.

0:00:200:00:23

A few scattered showers in the west,

0:00:230:00:25

some snow showers continuing across the Shetland Isles,

0:00:250:00:27

where temperatures will struggle to get much above freezing.

0:00:270:00:30

Elsewhere, 3 to 7 or 8 Celsius.

0:00:300:00:32

With light winds, in the sunshine,

0:00:320:00:34

it doesn't feel too bad after that frosty start.

0:00:340:00:36

Again, though it'll turn quite frosty quite quickly

0:00:360:00:38

during Thursday evening.

0:00:380:00:40

The blue hue taking over the map.

0:00:400:00:42

Again, where we see any showers,

0:00:420:00:43

it could turn a little bit icy out on the roads,

0:00:430:00:46

as temperatures, quite widely, even in towns and cities,

0:00:460:00:49

again, get down to freezing.

0:00:490:00:50

Rural areas, several degrees below.

0:00:500:00:53

Not quite as cold further south and west, you'll notice,

0:00:530:00:55

because here we'll see a bit more breeze picking up.

0:00:550:00:58

But more importantly, perhaps, a bit more cloud spinning in.

0:00:580:01:01

It will be a cloudier day here

0:01:010:01:03

with perhaps some more persistent rain,

0:01:030:01:04

most likely now to be across the extreme south-west.

0:01:040:01:07

But perhaps a few more showers on Friday

0:01:070:01:10

across southern and western areas.

0:01:100:01:12

Overall, for most, Friday is, again, a dry day.

0:01:120:01:14

And, again, after a frosty start, quite a bit of sunshine,

0:01:140:01:17

with temperatures around or a touch below average -

0:01:170:01:19

3 to 7 Celsius.

0:01:190:01:20

But we will start to see the breeze picking up

0:01:200:01:23

from this area of wet weather, tied into an area of low pressure.

0:01:230:01:26

The low itself is going to drive southwards,

0:01:260:01:28

joining with another low,

0:01:280:01:29

bringing some pretty wet and windy conditions

0:01:290:01:31

to parts of Spain and France this weekend.

0:01:310:01:34

The upshot for us on the northern side of that low,

0:01:340:01:37

with quite a few isobars on the chart,

0:01:370:01:39

means the winds, certainly across the southern portions of the UK,

0:01:390:01:42

will be increasing and coming in from a cold direction.

0:01:420:01:45

The winds further north will be light,

0:01:450:01:48

so it's another fine day by and large, with some sunshine.

0:01:480:01:50

Temperatures in the south still 5 to 8 Celsius,

0:01:500:01:52

similar to what we'll see for the next few days.

0:01:520:01:55

But because you're adding on that wind,

0:01:550:01:57

it will feel a lot colder this weekend.

0:01:570:01:59

And still, particularly across the south-eastern quarter of the UK,

0:01:590:02:02

a bitter wind blowing on Sunday.

0:02:020:02:03

Elsewhere, again, the winds relatively light

0:02:030:02:05

and most places dry and bright, some sunny spells,

0:02:050:02:08

just a few scattered wintry showers.

0:02:080:02:10

High pressure remains in control for the early part of the week,

0:02:100:02:14

but we're starting to see a change.

0:02:140:02:15

During Monday, these weather fronts approaching from the Atlantic.

0:02:150:02:18

Back to more of an Atlantic influence early part of next week.

0:02:180:02:22

That's all tied in with the jet stream,

0:02:220:02:24

that fast-moving ribbon of air.

0:02:240:02:26

If you've been with me for the past few nights,

0:02:260:02:28

we've been talking about this jet stream driving south

0:02:280:02:31

to the west of the UK.

0:02:310:02:32

As we go through the weekend, into the early part of next week,

0:02:320:02:35

look at the change.

0:02:350:02:37

We're back to a more traditional jet stream, if you like,

0:02:370:02:40

driving from west to east.

0:02:400:02:42

And also, notice it is getting a little bit weaker.

0:02:420:02:45

It means that it will be driving the low-pressure systems

0:02:450:02:48

towards more northern parts of the UK,

0:02:480:02:50

or perhaps to the north of Scotland, even.

0:02:500:02:52

But because the jet stream's a bit weaker,

0:02:520:02:54

we're not at this stage expecting anything too intense

0:02:540:02:57

with these low-pressure systems that drift on through.

0:02:570:03:00

It does mean more of an Atlantic influence.

0:03:000:03:03

It's a big expanse of water, so there'll be a bit more rain around.

0:03:030:03:06

After a largely dry weekend, we will start to see more wet weather

0:03:060:03:10

through the early part of next week.

0:03:100:03:11

There'll be a different feel.

0:03:110:03:13

We'll lose those bitter easterly winds

0:03:130:03:15

and the winds will come in from the north-west.

0:03:150:03:17

Not particularly warm. It'll still be on the chilly side.

0:03:170:03:20

Temperatures about average as we head into the early part of March.

0:03:200:03:23

With the low pressures nearer the north,

0:03:230:03:25

that's where the wettest of the weather will be

0:03:250:03:28

for much of next week.
