Hello. Spring is often a season torn between the past and the future. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
Now, sometimes it likes to hang on to winter cold, | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
and that's what we saw last week, | 0:00:09 | 0:00:11
temperatures struggling, frosty nights | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
and, yes, some of us saw some snow. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:16
But at times, spring will also look to the future and give us a taste of | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19
what's to come in the summer months as temperatures | 0:00:19 | 0:00:22
go above normal for the time of year. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:24
Helped by some sunshine, everything bursts into life, | 0:00:24 | 0:00:27
and the lambs - and us - have a spring in our step. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
And that's what's going to be happening this week as we transition | 0:00:30 | 0:00:34
towards those warmer conditions as high pressure begins to build in. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
And as we're going to see, the pressure pattern sets up | 0:00:37 | 0:00:40
that we draw in warmer air our way. Not quite here yet, though. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:44
There'll be a fresh feel to things during Tuesday, a lot of sunshine. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:48
Showers, though, still for Northern Ireland and Scotland, | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
still falling as snow over the very highest hills in Scotland. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
A few in England and Wales, but here they'll be very few and far between. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:58
16 in the sunny spells in London, | 0:00:58 | 0:00:59
closer to ten in the brisk breeze and showers in Glasgow. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:02
A few of those showers | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
will continue to affect Scotland through Tuesday night, | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
but watch out across southern parts of England and parts of Wales, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:10
where in the countryside, under light winds | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
and clear skies, temperatures will dip, | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
and still the potential as Wednesday begins here for a touch of frost. | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17
Looking at the picture for Wednesday, Atlantic weather systems | 0:01:17 | 0:01:21
still trying to have a go at us, but this one will struggle to | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
make much of an inroad across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
The breeze will freshen, more cloud coming in. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
Western parts of Scotland, maybe the far | 0:01:29 | 0:01:31
west of Northern Ireland will see outbreaks of rain. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
Sunny spells for much of England and Wales, | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
and temperatures just heading up a few degrees. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:38
So, the Atlantic influence may still be felt across parts of Scotland | 0:01:38 | 0:01:41
and Northern Ireland on through this week | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
until it gives way at the weekend into next week, | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
whereas for the rest of the UK, the warmth is starting to come up | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
from the south around an area of high pressure. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
Now, on Thursday that weather system we saw on Wednesday towards | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
the north-west of the UK, it's weakening to a band of cloud | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
and a few spots of rain as it tries to edge further south into that | 0:01:58 | 0:02:02
area of high pressure, which is building in and holding firm. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
Now, the pressure set-up at the end of the week is that high | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
pressure is to the east of us, low pressure to the south of us. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
We're drawing in that warmer air from the Continent, | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
starting to push up across the UK. However, it's not all plain sailing. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:18
Remember that area of low pressure to the south? | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
It may just start to feed in some energy towards us with the chance | 0:02:20 | 0:02:24
of picking up one or two thundery downpours to end the day on Friday. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:28
They become more of a feature potentially on Saturday. | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
A lot of uncertainty about the position of where that | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
rainfall may be and how heavy and possibly thundery it's going to be, | 0:02:33 | 0:02:36
but the idea is that some of that will push its way further | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
northwards, particularly across the western side of the UK this weekend. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:42
Always a chance, by the way, of an onshore flow towards the east coast. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:45
There could be a lot of low cloud and mistiness. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:48
That's something to be aware of. Now, that weather pattern again, | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
high pressure to the east of us, low pressure to the south, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
drawing in the Continental warmth, continues into next week. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
But it's not all plain sailing, | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
because the position of that low pressure throwing up | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
bits of energy towards us | 0:03:02 | 0:03:03
does increase the potential for picking up some heavy downpours. | 0:03:03 | 0:03:07
So, we know for the weekend into next week | 0:03:07 | 0:03:08
it's going to be warmer, and that warmth is pushing its way north. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
There'll be some sunshine at times, | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
but don't go away from this thinking it's clear blue sky. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
There is the potential for heavy downpours. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
It's that word "warm" I think we'll notice the most, | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
and that transition to that spring | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
and early-summer warmth is what we'll be talking about the most | 0:03:22 | 0:03:25
and probably will welcome the most. That's it for now. Bye-bye. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:29 |
