It's that time of day when we take a look forward at the weather trends | 0:00:03 | 0:00:06
for the next 6 to 10 days. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
But before we do, let's talk about the weekend. | 0:00:08 | 0:00:10
Now, just two weekends ago we had snow in the forecast. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:14
Last weekend followed the warmest weekend of the year so far. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:18
This weekend, somewhere in the middle - around about average. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
Temperatures have certainly lowered in the north | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
through the day on Friday behind this cold front | 0:00:23 | 0:00:26
because it has introduced a lot more cloud and colder air | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29
and that process continues through the night. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
So after the muggy nights that we've seen through the week, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
a much colder start to our Saturday morning | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
with some grass frost around. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
Gardeners beware - this weekend we will have cold, | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
potentially frosty nights. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
So after a cold start, some sunshine around, | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
but it will feel quite chilly | 0:00:46 | 0:00:47
because of that brisk wind near eastern coasts and here we'll likely | 0:00:47 | 0:00:50
see a bit more cloud bubbling up and perhaps a few showers. | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
The west looks best for sunshine. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
And indeed, after the cloudy day across Scotland, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:58
more sunshine through Saturday will make it feel warmer. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:01
Temperatures will lift into the, well, mid teens, potentially. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
Not as warm for Northern Ireland as we've seen in recent days, | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
or indeed across Wales and the south-west. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
We will have lost that muggy air which resulted | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
in a few storms through Friday evening. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
It will be a very different day here | 0:01:14 | 0:01:15
and already that fresher air was with us further east. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
But even though temperatures have fallen, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
the forecast UV levels are still high, | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
even in Scotland, actually, during the day on Saturday. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
It's not temperature-dependent, so bear that in mind. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
Chilly start on Sunday morning, some grass frost potentially. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:31
Starting to lose the northerly wind, though, on Sunday, | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
so hopefully giving us some sunshine | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
and without the breeze it should feel pleasant enough. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:38
But again, I think eastern areas will see rather more cloud | 0:01:38 | 0:01:41
and the risk of a few showers around. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
So, let's sum up the weekend. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:44
Yes, it's going to be cooler than it has been through the week. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
We'll have the chilly nights but we will have some sunny spells, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
some dry weather, very usable weather. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
And that settled trend continues into Monday. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
Again, some sunshine coming through, winds generally light, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
so it'll feel warm enough in that strong May sunshine. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:02
By Tuesday, however, things are starting to look | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
a little bit messier - more unsettled. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
We start to pick up our first Atlantic low pressure, | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
so it starts to bring in, we think later in the day, | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
the rain across the western side of the country, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
and that's this area of low pressure. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
Now, detail from day to day we will, of course, fine tune, | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
but it looks as if this one will bring some fairly heavy rain | 0:02:21 | 0:02:25
and potentially some strong winds, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:26
even some gales depending on how deep it becomes. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
And it looks as if probably Tuesday night into Wednesday | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
we will see the heaviest rain. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
We could see - we COULD see some quite nasty conditions | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
for a time, so that's one that we are going to watch quite closely. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:41
That then clears out the way but already you can see behind me | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
we've got more rain, so more weather fronts waiting in the wings. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:49
So whilst earlier in the week we thought things would start to | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
settle down with a passage of low pressure, | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
it now looks as if the jet stream, our upper winds, | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
will be blowing those low pressures right across the UK. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
Obviously any perturbations in that jet stream | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
will determine how far to the north or indeed to the south | 0:03:02 | 0:03:05
the low pressures, the subsequent low pressures, take their track, | 0:03:05 | 0:03:08
and of course how much rain we will see towards | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
the north or the south, | 0:03:11 | 0:03:12
but whilst it was looking earlier in the week as if | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
by the end of the coming week | 0:03:15 | 0:03:16
and into the weekend things will be settling down and warming up, | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
it now looks as if it might be | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
the beginning of the following week before we see that trend. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:24
So at the moment it looks like we'll see average temperatures | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
with some sunshine and also some rain at times. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
We'll keep you updated. | 0:03:29 | 0:03:30 |
