Hello there. For cricket fans out there it's been an all too familiar | 7:48:58 | 7:49:01
and rather frustrating start to England's first test. | 7:49:01 | 7:49:04
This was the story at Headingley on Saturday - | 7:49:04 | 7:49:07
rain stopped play through the middle part of the day. | 7:49:07 | 7:49:10
It does look as though there's a risk of some showers for Sunday | 7:49:10 | 7:49:13
but not as widespread, | 7:49:13 | 7:49:14
and hopefully not as prolonged as Saturday. | 7:49:14 | 7:49:18
A weather front moving away, | 7:49:18 | 7:49:19
showers start to develop out to the west. | 7:49:19 | 7:49:21
But the day will start off quite promising. | 7:49:21 | 7:49:24
A rather, dull, drab, dank start in the south-east corner | 7:49:24 | 7:49:27
but elsewhere, some sunshine. A chilly start in rural parts | 7:49:27 | 7:49:30
and then as we go through the day temperatures start to rise | 7:49:30 | 7:49:33
and showers become more widespread into the afternoon. | 7:49:33 | 7:49:36
Some of these a little more slow-moving though, | 7:49:36 | 7:49:38
with lighter winds across the country. | 7:49:38 | 7:49:40
Now, if you dodge the showers, you keep the sunshine - | 7:49:40 | 7:49:42
it will feel pleasant enough, temperatures generally at | 7:49:42 | 7:49:45
around 12 to 18 degrees. So we can't rule out the risk of a shower | 7:49:45 | 7:49:48
at Headingley, particularly through the middle part of the day. | 7:49:48 | 7:49:52
Now, as we move out of Sunday. Most of the showers will start to | 7:49:52 | 7:49:56
ease away through the night. And things will quieten down. | 7:49:56 | 7:50:00
We could see a little bit of patchy mist and fog forming, | 7:50:00 | 7:50:03
bit more of a breeze on exposed coasts and temperatures | 7:50:03 | 7:50:06
in rural areas will fall down to lower values, | 7:50:06 | 7:50:09
so here a little on the chilly side to start Monday morning. | 7:50:09 | 7:50:12
But we start off Monday morning again on a | 7:50:12 | 7:50:15
relatively dry, bright note. | 7:50:15 | 7:50:16
There will be a stiffening northerly breeze down through North Sea | 7:50:16 | 7:50:20
coasts and a few showers here. | 7:50:20 | 7:50:21
And through the middle of the day we're likely to see perhaps | 7:50:21 | 7:50:24
a more organised line of showers through the spine of the country, | 7:50:24 | 7:50:27
highest values of 12 to 17 degrees. As we move out of Monday | 7:50:27 | 7:50:31
into Tuesday, it certainly looks as though high pressure | 7:50:31 | 7:50:34
is trying to calm things down a little, and it will do so. | 7:50:34 | 7:50:38
But it's going to allow this north-easterly flow for a time, | 7:50:38 | 7:50:41
making it feel just that little bit cooler than of late. | 7:50:41 | 7:50:45
So, a disappointing feel out there, despite a good deal of dry weather. | 7:50:45 | 7:50:49
The coolest feel is probably likely to be on the North Sea coasts. | 7:50:49 | 7:50:52
Away from that strengthening wind in a little more brightness | 7:50:52 | 7:50:55
further west, perhaps we'll see the best of the drier, sunnier weather | 7:50:55 | 7:50:58
and temperatures will respond as well. | 7:50:58 | 7:51:01
So, by the middle of Tuesday afternoon, we're likely | 7:51:01 | 7:51:03
to see highest values of around 14 or 15 degrees - | 7:51:03 | 7:51:06
disappointing, really, for late May, | 7:51:06 | 7:51:09
but cooler still on North Sea coasts, | 7:51:09 | 7:51:11
with temperatures sitting at around 11. | 7:51:11 | 7:51:14
That area of low pressure will start to move in from the North Sea. | 7:51:14 | 7:51:17
There's a level of uncertainty as to timings of this, | 7:51:17 | 7:51:19
but it is going to drift its way steadily westwards | 7:51:19 | 7:51:22
and it will bring some rain with it, moving its way from east to west. | 7:51:22 | 7:51:26
A cooler feel, generally, on Wednesday under the cloud and rain. | 7:51:26 | 7:51:29
Ten or 12 degrees - 16 the highest values. And perhaps then dry | 7:51:29 | 7:51:33
in the south-east corner. That low continues to move out of the way. | 7:51:33 | 7:51:37
Another front will push up from the south - | 7:51:37 | 7:51:39
that's going to bring some showery outbreaks of rain, | 7:51:39 | 7:51:42
but behind it, it will start to drag in slightly milder air for | 7:51:42 | 7:51:45
the southern half of the country. We still keep a subdued feel | 7:51:45 | 7:51:48
with the winds coming in off the sea out to the east. | 7:51:48 | 7:51:50
And that easterly flow continues, really, late on into next week, | 7:51:50 | 7:51:55
and towards the bank holiday weekend. But low pressure | 7:51:55 | 7:51:57
starts to influence the story into the south-west | 7:51:57 | 7:52:00
and that's potentially going to drag in much warmer | 7:52:00 | 7:52:03
air down to the south. | 7:52:03 | 7:52:05
But once that interacts with that area of low pressure, | 7:52:05 | 7:52:08
it doesn't mean warm, settled sunny weather. | 7:52:08 | 7:52:10
In actual fact, it could bring some torrential thundery downpours | 7:52:10 | 7:52:14
to the southern half of the country. Further north, | 7:52:14 | 7:52:17
a cooler feel, but here it could stay drier and brighter. | 7:52:17 | 7:52:20
Yes, it's bank holiday weekend, yes, we will firm up on the details | 7:52:20 | 7:52:23
as and when we get them. | 7:52:23 | 7:52:25 |
