The past few days have brought us

0:00:020:00:04

some fairly fine summer-like weather with some sunshine.

0:00:040:00:07

Over the next week or so,

0:00:070:00:08

things are gradually going to be turning rather unsettled.

0:00:080:00:11

Here's the scene taken on Saturday

0:00:110:00:13

by one of our weather watchers

0:00:130:00:14

in Dumfries and Galloway

0:00:140:00:15

showing the extent of the sunshine there.

0:00:150:00:17

As we look through the day on Sunday, still some sunshine,

0:00:170:00:20

also a few scattered showers around, but I think, for most places,

0:00:200:00:23

we're looking at a dry day.

0:00:230:00:25

A bit of a northerly breeze developing

0:00:250:00:27

across parts of eastern and south-east England,

0:00:270:00:29

drawing in a little bit more cloud,

0:00:290:00:31

perhaps one or two showers late in the afternoon

0:00:310:00:33

and also we're going to be seeing a few showers

0:00:330:00:35

for north-western parts of Scotland

0:00:350:00:37

and for Northern Ireland,

0:00:370:00:38

but for the rest of the UK, a lot of dry weather

0:00:380:00:40

and in the sunshine, it should feel pleasantly warm -

0:00:400:00:43

21, possibly 22 degrees or so,

0:00:430:00:44

always that little bit cooler

0:00:440:00:46

around the eastern coasts

0:00:460:00:47

of Scotland and England, too.

0:00:470:00:49

Heading through Sunday night

0:00:490:00:51

and on into the bank holiday on Monday,

0:00:510:00:53

what we're going to start to see

0:00:530:00:54

is an area of low pressure across the near Continent

0:00:540:00:56

exerting its influence a little bit more

0:00:560:00:58

so strengthening northerly winds across East Anglia

0:00:580:01:01

and the south-east first thing.

0:01:010:01:02

The rest of the country,

0:01:020:01:03

first thing bank holiday Monday, mainly dry,

0:01:030:01:06

a little bit of patchy mist and cloud around.

0:01:060:01:08

But here's that area of low pressure

0:01:080:01:10

which is slowly churning around

0:01:100:01:12

parts of northern France,

0:01:120:01:13

tightening isobars associated with that system

0:01:130:01:15

as that low pressure deepens

0:01:150:01:17

so that means some fairly strong,

0:01:170:01:18

possibly gale force winds

0:01:180:01:19

across parts of the south-east of England,

0:01:190:01:21

East Anglia, too.

0:01:210:01:22

So, the winds here strengthening, cloud pouring in

0:01:220:01:25

and a few sharp showers later in the day,

0:01:250:01:27

initially for the likes of Lincolnshire and Norfolk,

0:01:270:01:29

heading further south down towards Kent.

0:01:290:01:31

For the rest of the country,

0:01:310:01:32

away from the south-east,

0:01:320:01:33

it's a fairly warm and a bright day, too.

0:01:330:01:35

Lighter winds here.

0:01:350:01:36

Temperatures in Cardiff, for instance,

0:01:360:01:38

up to around 20 degrees,

0:01:380:01:40

just 13 Celsius there in Norwich.

0:01:400:01:42

Moving on through bank holiday Monday

0:01:420:01:44

and on into Tuesday,

0:01:440:01:45

low pressure still sitting across parts of France

0:01:450:01:48

so it's quite a slow-moving system,

0:01:480:01:49

starting to fill that area of low pressure,

0:01:490:01:51

but we've still got weather fronts associated with it

0:01:510:01:54

spinning their way northwards across the country.

0:01:540:01:56

Some uncertainty by this point in the week,

0:01:560:01:58

but we could see some spells of rain through

0:01:580:02:00

parts of southern England, Wales,

0:02:000:02:02

perhaps up towards northern England and Scotland, too.

0:02:020:02:04

Either side of that band of rain,

0:02:040:02:06

there will be some brighter weather

0:02:060:02:08

and temperatures will be starting to push up

0:02:080:02:10

towards the south-east once again

0:02:100:02:12

with the arrival of some showers around, too.

0:02:120:02:14

Heading on into the middle part of the week,

0:02:140:02:16

that low pressure drifting its way

0:02:160:02:18

slowly into southern parts of England.

0:02:180:02:20

Again, there's some uncertainty

0:02:200:02:21

about the detail heading on into Wednesday.

0:02:210:02:23

It does look like we've still got that front with us.

0:02:230:02:25

It's fairly slow moving, but, by Wednesday,

0:02:250:02:27

it's likely to affect central parts of Scotland,

0:02:270:02:30

perhaps Northern Ireland as well,

0:02:300:02:31

whereas further south,

0:02:310:02:33

some warmer humid air pouring in from the near Continent,

0:02:330:02:35

but also bringing with it

0:02:350:02:36

a risk of heavy showers and thunderstorms.

0:02:360:02:39

Then as we look towards the latter part of the week, then,

0:02:390:02:42

low pressure starting to fill

0:02:420:02:44

to ease away towards the south.

0:02:440:02:46

We've still got that lingering weather front

0:02:460:02:48

set to bring some outbreaks of rain

0:02:480:02:49

as we look towards the end of the week

0:02:490:02:51

so Thursday into Friday,

0:02:510:02:52

we've still got the influence

0:02:520:02:54

of that area of low pressure.

0:02:540:02:55

Then, late next week,

0:02:550:02:56

it starts to push off towards the south

0:02:560:02:59

so most of the rain will clear away.

0:02:590:03:00

High pressure starting to creep in

0:03:000:03:02

from the north-west of the UK.

0:03:020:03:03

Now, in between these two systems,

0:03:030:03:05

we could well draw in the breeze

0:03:050:03:07

from an east or north-easterly direction,

0:03:070:03:09

leading to slightly cooler conditions

0:03:090:03:11

around the east coast.

0:03:110:03:12

But, in general, things will become drier

0:03:120:03:14

as we head through the latter part of next week

0:03:140:03:16

with high pressure pushing in.

0:03:160:03:18

We've got a cool breeze developing

0:03:180:03:19

for many eastern areas

0:03:190:03:20

with the warmest and the brightest of the weather

0:03:200:03:23

generally to be found further west.

0:03:230:03:24

But for the rest of the bank holiday weekend,

0:03:240:03:26

most of us should see some sunshine. Bye for now.
