Hello. We're going to see and feel quite a dramatic weather change | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
as we go through Friday and into the weekend. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
It's going to turn much fresher, much cooler, | 0:00:07 | 0:00:10
so we're going to lose the warmth and humidity and energy | 0:00:10 | 0:00:12
that's been sparking all the thunderstorms | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
over the past couple of days. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:16
This image of a lightning strike | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
taken by one of our Weather Watchers. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
Chance of getting more lightning strikes, | 0:00:20 | 0:00:22
particularly during Wednesday afternoon. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:24
Most places having a drier morning. Quite a lot more cloud | 0:00:24 | 0:00:26
across the north-east and with the breeze coming in from the North Sea, | 0:00:26 | 0:00:29
those eastern coasts fresher once more. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
Elsewhere, the warmth and humidity will trigger | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
some further thundery downpours - | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
not as extensive, not as numerous as the ones on Tuesday. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:38
And again, like Tuesday, the south-west of England | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
and much of South Wales staying dry. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:42
Shouldn't see too many storms across the south-east either, | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
and temperatures here 24, 25 degrees. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
Much cooler on the east coast, but inland, some warm sunshine. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:50
And then we come to the zone | 0:00:50 | 0:00:51
where we're most likely to see those thunderstorms. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
North-west England, west Wales, Western Scotland. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
Should be a dry day, though, in Northern Ireland, | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
and quite gloomy and pretty chilly across the far north-east. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:03
Those thundery downpours fade on Wednesday evening | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
and most of us dry on Thursday, but again, quite misty on some coasts, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
increasing risk of mist and sea fog | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
around western coasts during Thursday. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
Isolated thunderstorms, but most places dry, | 0:01:13 | 0:01:16
and in the sunshine, again, quite warm and humid. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
So a couple more days of the warm and humid air sitting across the UK | 0:01:19 | 0:01:23
but then the change - weather fronts streaming in from the Atlantic, | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
bringing Atlantic air, bringing fresher air. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:29
We'll start to see that process during Friday, outbreaks of rain | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
sweeping across the UK. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:33
Could be left with some of that rain across the east early on Saturday, | 0:01:33 | 0:01:37
some uncertainty about the timings of these weather fronts. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
Following on from that, it won't rain all day on Saturday, | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42
there'll be bright or sunny spells, but there will be plentiful showers. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:45
Temperatures already dropping down a bit on Saturday, | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
and that process continues on Sunday as we have the potential | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
for another rather aggressive weather front to sweep in. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
Again, the timings will be uncertain, | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
but lots of isobars on the chart, it turns breezy | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
as that band of potentially quite heavy rain sweeps its way in | 0:01:59 | 0:02:03
followed by more showers. Again, temperatures will be a notch lower, | 0:02:03 | 0:02:06
struggling just into the high teens at best. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
Looking further afield in time, | 0:02:09 | 0:02:10
we have to look much further afield across the Atlantic, | 0:02:10 | 0:02:14
and take on board what's going on off the south-east of the US. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:18
What's left of Tropical Storm Colin. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
Look at the way the cloud is swirling here across the Atlantic. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
That is basically the form of the jet stream at the moment, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
and at the base of it we have Colin. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
Now, Colin is no longer a tropical storm, | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
but it will still bring a lot of energy | 0:02:30 | 0:02:33
and a lot of humidity as it tracks its way across the Atlantic, | 0:02:33 | 0:02:37
interacting with the jet stream. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:38
So the jet stream no longer meandering - | 0:02:38 | 0:02:41
by the time we get to Sunday and Monday next week, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
the jet stream will be coming more directly across the Atlantic | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
towards the UK. And we are on the cold side of that jet stream, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:51
a breeding ground for low-pressure systems, | 0:02:51 | 0:02:53
so that's how things will change into the early part of next week. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
With low pressure sitting across the UK, it's going to be | 0:02:57 | 0:03:00
significantly cooler than it is now. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:02
There'll be rain at times for all of us, | 0:03:02 | 0:03:04
some dry and bright spells in between. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
Now, looking a little further ahead, | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
it looks as if there signs that that low-pressure system | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
may start to ebb away, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:13
so if you're after something drier and brighter, | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
then better prospects later next week | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
with high pressure potentially building in. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
But there's always going to be uncertainty, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:22
particularly when we've got tropical storms involved. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
So we'll continue to monitor it | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
and we'll continue to keep you updated. Goodbye. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:30 |
