Hello. Recently, we've seen rain | 1:11:38 | 1:11:40
mainly in the form of heavy showers and thunderstorms, | 1:11:40 | 1:11:42
delivering quite a lot of rain in a relatively short space of time. | 1:11:42 | 1:11:45
The next few days there will be rain of a slightly different variety. | 1:11:45 | 1:11:48
It'll be a bit lighter but probably covering a larger area. | 1:11:48 | 1:11:51
But it was a thundery start to the weekend across much of central | 1:11:51 | 1:11:54
and eastern England in particular, a few thunderstorms in Scotland | 1:11:54 | 1:11:57
and some really heavy downpours with that. | 1:11:57 | 1:12:00
A lot of energy in the atmosphere, and one of our Weather Watchers | 1:12:00 | 1:12:03
in Northumberland captured this funnel cloud. | 1:12:03 | 1:12:05
We saw some reports of funnel clouds elsewhere in the UK, | 1:12:05 | 1:12:08
so it really was a very lively day. | 1:12:08 | 1:12:10
And some very heavy downpours, | 1:12:10 | 1:12:12
as captured here by another one of our Weather Watchers in Gateshead. | 1:12:12 | 1:12:16
As we get towards dawn, most of the thundery activity will ease away. | 1:12:16 | 1:12:20
One or two early showers towards East Anglia, | 1:12:20 | 1:12:22
but most places start dry, although there's | 1:12:22 | 1:12:24
a little rain near Northern Ireland. | 1:12:24 | 1:12:26
But most of us dry. 12, 13 or 14 degrees | 1:12:26 | 1:12:29
fairly typical in major towns and cities. | 1:12:29 | 1:12:31
Might be a bit lower than that in some rural spots. | 1:12:31 | 1:12:33
But a bright start for many in the east. | 1:12:33 | 1:12:35
Further west, wetter weather in Northern Ireland drifting into | 1:12:35 | 1:12:38
the western side of Scotland, the western side of England and Wales. | 1:12:38 | 1:12:41
Not a great feel underneath that, temperatures in the middle teens, | 1:12:41 | 1:12:44
but get further east and, yes, it does cloud over | 1:12:44 | 1:12:46
into the afternoon, but many places stay fine and dry. | 1:12:46 | 1:12:49
19 or so degrees in Newcastle, 20 in Norwich, 22 in London. | 1:12:49 | 1:12:54
And then through Sunday night and into the small hours of Monday, | 1:12:54 | 1:12:57
that weather front creeps south, and then for the bulk | 1:12:57 | 1:12:59
of the day on Monday we're into this fresh north-westerly air stream. | 1:12:59 | 1:13:03
And it's going to be a bright and breezy day on Monday, | 1:13:03 | 1:13:05
probably the better day of the next few with a lot of dry | 1:13:05 | 1:13:08
weather for many, although still a few showers in the north and west. | 1:13:08 | 1:13:12
14 degrees in Glasgow, 21 in London. | 1:13:12 | 1:13:15
Now, we keep those westerly winds coming through the day on Tuesday. | 1:13:15 | 1:13:19
Low pressure to the north, weather fronts swinging around the base of | 1:13:19 | 1:13:22
that low, heading our way to bring thicker cloud | 1:13:22 | 1:13:25
and outbreaks of rather more persistent rain. | 1:13:25 | 1:13:27
Across some northern and western parts of the UK in particular, | 1:13:27 | 1:13:30
maybe some rain early in some southern counties, | 1:13:30 | 1:13:32
but that should move further north into the afternoon, | 1:13:32 | 1:13:34
and temperature-wise it's the middle to upper teens. | 1:13:34 | 1:13:37
Now, Wimbledon starts on Monday. Should be a pretty decent day, | 1:13:37 | 1:13:40
but Tuesday morning, the chance of some rain, | 1:13:40 | 1:13:43
a higher chance of seeing some rain through the middle part of the week. | 1:13:43 | 1:13:46
It looks pretty unsettled Tuesday night into Wednesday. | 1:13:46 | 1:13:49
We've still got the low to the north of the UK, | 1:13:49 | 1:13:51
weather fronts coming around the base of it, | 1:13:51 | 1:13:54
bringing thicker cloud and spells of rain with it. | 1:13:54 | 1:13:56
So on Wednesday the southern half of the UK in particular | 1:13:56 | 1:13:59
looks pretty wet and pretty windy, | 1:13:59 | 1:14:01
the windiest conditions probably down towards Cornwall and Devon. | 1:14:01 | 1:14:04
Along the south coast, generally quite windy. Wet, too. | 1:14:04 | 1:14:07
Sunny spells and showers the further north you go. | 1:14:07 | 1:14:09
And yet more rain comes in from the west during the day on Thursday. | 1:14:09 | 1:14:13
It looks as if the south-eastern corner is driest into the afternoon, | 1:14:13 | 1:14:17
but a fair bit of cloud. 20 degrees will be the top temperature. | 1:14:17 | 1:14:20
Now, in recent weeks, this has been the overall set-up, high pressure | 1:14:20 | 1:14:23
to the north of the UK, a north-easterly breeze with that, | 1:14:23 | 1:14:25
but the low to the south of the UK has been dragging in this warm, | 1:14:25 | 1:14:28
humid air from the near Continent, | 1:14:28 | 1:14:30
and that's helped to spark off some of those thunderstorms. | 1:14:30 | 1:14:33
This week, we're going to change things around | 1:14:33 | 1:14:35
and have low pressure to the north of the UK, | 1:14:35 | 1:14:38
high pressure to the south and west of the UK, | 1:14:38 | 1:14:40
and the resultant winds will be a westerly wind | 1:14:40 | 1:14:43
coming in from the Atlantic, bringing patches of cloud | 1:14:43 | 1:14:46
with it, and that cloud, in turn, is likely to bring some rain. | 1:14:46 | 1:14:49
Now, most of the rain will be in the north-west, in closest proximity | 1:14:49 | 1:14:52
to that area of low pressure, driest conditions in the south-east. | 1:14:52 | 1:14:55
Not completely dry, but drier than it will be in the north and west. | 1:14:55 | 1:14:58
A bit of a breeze at times, | 1:14:58 | 1:15:00
and I think it'll feel a little bit fresher than it has done recently. | 1:15:00 | 1:15:03
We'll lose that humidity. That's it. Bye for now. | 1:15:03 | 1:15:05 |
