Hello, there. No surprises - the weather for the week ahead

0:00:030:00:06

is going to follow a pattern very similar to the last few weeks.

0:00:060:00:09

We've got some warm air, drier air,

0:00:090:00:12

tantalisingly close across France

0:00:120:00:14

and across Iberia,

0:00:140:00:15

but as you move northwards

0:00:150:00:17

and out into the Atlantic, this is where

0:00:170:00:19

our weather's coming from,

0:00:190:00:21

and again, we see more areas of low pressure.

0:00:210:00:23

After some heavy rain overnight,

0:00:230:00:25

things improve during Friday.

0:00:250:00:27

But for one or two showers in the afternoon,

0:00:270:00:30

it should be dry for most places.

0:00:300:00:32

Brighter, with some sunshine, too.

0:00:320:00:34

Temperatures getting up to around 19 or 20 Celsius.

0:00:340:00:37

Could get a bit warmer than that, though, at Wimbledon,

0:00:370:00:40

after some morning rain and drizzle

0:00:400:00:42

across southern England.

0:00:420:00:43

Things look fairly quiet as we head into the evening,

0:00:430:00:46

Friday evening,

0:00:460:00:48

but notice more cloud and freshening winds

0:00:480:00:50

and some rain beginning to gather

0:00:500:00:53

across the west, into Wales,

0:00:530:00:54

across north-west England, moving across Northern Ireland

0:00:540:00:57

and into Scotland as well.

0:00:570:00:59

So a warm night ahead,

0:00:590:01:00

especially with some stronger winds.

0:01:000:01:02

The reason we're getting stronger winds -

0:01:020:01:04

this area of low pressure is a deeper one.

0:01:040:01:06

It contains some stronger winds,

0:01:060:01:08

and these weather fronts will focus the rain.

0:01:080:01:10

So at this stage, it looks like we've got rain

0:01:100:01:12

moving northwards across Scotland on Saturday.

0:01:120:01:15

Maybe dry for the most of the day across Northern Ireland,

0:01:150:01:18

but some rain for Wales, heavy over western hills,

0:01:180:01:20

and rain moving northwards across England.

0:01:200:01:22

Towards the south-east, not much rain, not much sunshine -

0:01:220:01:25

really quite warm and humid here.

0:01:250:01:28

We're all going to see some rain, I think,

0:01:280:01:30

during Saturday night. Could be quite heavy,

0:01:300:01:32

running northwards across Scotland,

0:01:320:01:34

as that low-pressure gets that little bit closer.

0:01:340:01:37

That weather front taking some patchy rain and drizzle

0:01:370:01:39

across the south-east of England.

0:01:390:01:41

On Sunday morning it pulls away.

0:01:410:01:43

We get fresher air coming in behind.

0:01:430:01:45

A lot of showers, longer spells of rain

0:01:450:01:47

for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:01:470:01:49

Some sunshine and some showers

0:01:490:01:51

and a blustery wind for England and Wales.

0:01:510:01:54

Shame it's not particularly settled -

0:01:540:01:56

a lot going on this weekend.

0:01:560:01:57

T in the Park at Strathallan. Some heavy rain Saturday night.

0:01:570:02:00

Some rain not far away from the Scottish Open.

0:02:000:02:02

Probably improving weather for the British Grand Prix.

0:02:020:02:05

The rain very much open to doubt, really, here over the weekend.

0:02:050:02:09

And at Wimbledon as well, for most of the time it should be dry.

0:02:090:02:12

Very muggy on Saturday.

0:02:120:02:14

Much fresher on Sunday.

0:02:140:02:16

And that fresher air continues on Monday as well.

0:02:160:02:18

Again some quite strong winds,

0:02:180:02:20

especially across England and Wales,

0:02:200:02:22

where we'll see those showers moving down from the north.

0:02:220:02:25

Some of them could be heavy,

0:02:250:02:27

possibly even with a rumble or two of thunder.

0:02:270:02:29

Although that low-pressure is heading its way towards Scandinavia,

0:02:290:02:33

we still have an airflow from a cool direction,

0:02:330:02:35

a north-westerly airflow.

0:02:350:02:37

And we could see some more showers as well.

0:02:370:02:39

Not too many for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:02:390:02:42

A chillier night here.

0:02:420:02:44

We've got more showers pushing into southern parts of England,

0:02:440:02:47

and again some of these could be heavy,

0:02:470:02:49

possibly with some hail and thunder, too.

0:02:490:02:52

Now, what we need for some drier weather

0:02:520:02:54

at this time of the year is the Azores High

0:02:540:02:57

to move closer to our shores.

0:02:570:02:59

That tends to bring us better weather over the summer.

0:02:590:03:02

But it tries to push our way

0:03:020:03:04

around the middle part of the week,

0:03:040:03:06

but it looks like it will get squeezed away

0:03:060:03:08

by another area of low pressure,

0:03:080:03:10

bringing some stronger winds and some rain.

0:03:100:03:12

And as we head into later next week,

0:03:120:03:14

this is the position of the jet stream.

0:03:140:03:16

Again, not changing very much.

0:03:160:03:17

That steers areas of low-pressure

0:03:170:03:19

more towards the north-west of the UK.

0:03:190:03:21

This is where it will be wet and windy at times.

0:03:210:03:23

Head towards the south-east, not quite so wet,

0:03:230:03:26

and at times it will be a little bit warmer as well.

0:03:260:03:28

That's it. Goodbye.

0:03:280:03:30

Gregg and Chris are back to help us slash the weekly food bill.

0:03:320:03:34

Let's get to work.
