The weather was all over the place this weekend. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
Let's see if we've got any decent summer weather on the way this week. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:09
And actually, there are hints that towards the end of the week | 0:00:09 | 0:00:11
things could be warming up significantly, | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
particularly across the south of the country. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:15
But for the time being, the jet stream is fairly close to the UK. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:18
We have a dip in the jet stream and quite often | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
when we get this pattern a low pressure likes to sit in this dip, | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
and that's exactly what we've got on the forecast. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:27
On Monday you can see low pressure here. It's only moving very, | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
very slowly, at a glacial pace, in the direction of Scandinavia. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:33
So that means it will take time before it takes its weather | 0:00:33 | 0:00:37
with it and out of the scene. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
So again, on Monday, it's a picture of sunshine and showers | 0:00:39 | 0:00:42
and quite breezy too, particularly across central | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
and eastern areas earlier on in the day. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
The top temperatures in any sunshine will get up to 20 degrees or so | 0:00:47 | 0:00:51
but I think for most of us we're talking about the high teens. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:55
So that's Monday afternoon. | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
Monday evening, now, into early Tuesday, | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
and the weather still essentially remains the same. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
We've got a relatively cool north-westerly wind, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
just a few shivers around here and there, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
temperatures overnight in the north around 10 degrees, | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
so this is early Tuesday, 13 or 14 in the south. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:14
Notice that on Tuesday we still have a chance of some rain across | 0:01:14 | 0:01:19
some central and south-eastern areas, | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
so I think we might have to be prepared with the brollies. | 0:01:22 | 0:01:24
For example, anywhere from the Midlands into East Anglia, | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
the London area, central, southern England. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
But I think, overall, for most of us on Tuesday | 0:01:28 | 0:01:31
it is looking a little bit drier and brighter. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
There will still be one or two sprinkles dotted around here | 0:01:33 | 0:01:36
and there but on balance, not a bad day. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
But cooler than we'd like - around 16 or 17 degrees. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:42
This high pressure only very slowly starts to build | 0:01:42 | 0:01:45
in the direction of the UK during the middle part of the week. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
In fact, on Wednesday we are still under the influence | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
of that low pressure. In fact, there's another one | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
you can't even see on this forecast here in the north | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
that will actually drive further showers across the UK. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
So again, a day for the sunglasses in one hand | 0:01:59 | 0:02:02
and brollies in the other on Wednesday. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
And then, as we head into Thursday, | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
that little area of high pressure starts to build in. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:09
It starts to dry things out across the UK. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
There will be more sunshine, lighter winds. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
But the temperatures aren't spectacular yet on Thursday - | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
still mostly in the high teens or around 20 degrees Celsius. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:20
Then, as we head into Friday, so Thursday night into Friday, | 0:02:20 | 0:02:24
that higher pressure tends to build across England and Wales. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
But notice that there is a low close to Iceland here and that, | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
unfortunately, does look as though it's going to throw thicker | 0:02:30 | 0:02:33
cloud and the possibility of some rain to that very far | 0:02:33 | 0:02:36
north-western portion of the UK. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
But for the vast majority of the UK on Friday | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
the weather is looking fine and dry. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
So, let's see what's happening this weekend. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:44
That high pressure, remember, builds. Also what it's going | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
to do is keep pumping warm air from the southern climes. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
But with that more turbulent weather out there in the Atlantic it'll stay | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
relatively cool in the most north-western extremities of the UK. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
And you'll notice that that high pressure actually builds | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
during the weekend right across Europe, | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
still influencing the weather across most of England and Wales, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
but in the north-west there still could be some rain. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
So, next weekend, cloudy | 0:03:07 | 0:03:08
with a chance of some rain across the north-west of the country, | 0:03:08 | 0:03:11
whereas further south it does look as though things could warm up. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:14
And this warming trend is likely to continue further | 0:03:14 | 0:03:17
ahead into next week as well, | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
so it could turn very warm indeed across some southern parts | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
of the UK with sunshine, but in the north-west always a little | 0:03:22 | 0:03:26
bit more unsettled with a risk of some rain and breezy weather too. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:30
Bye-bye. | 0:03:30 | 0:03:31
There's something here. | 0:03:32 | 0:03:33
# This one night... # | 0:03:33 | 0:03:35
Something bad. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:36 |
