Hello. For quite a few of you,

0:00:030:00:04

the week gone has been humid by day and by night.

0:00:040:00:06

Southerly winds dominated,

0:00:060:00:07

bringing all that warmth of the continent, lifting temperatures

0:00:070:00:10

in mainland UK to

0:00:100:00:11

around 34 degrees on Tuesday,

0:00:110:00:13

35 on the Channel Islands.

0:00:130:00:15

The week ahead though,

0:00:150:00:16

get rid of those southerly winds,

0:00:160:00:17

we bring air in off

0:00:170:00:18

the Atlantic, from the West,

0:00:180:00:20

and temperatures accordingly will drop.

0:00:200:00:22

Many of you much closer to around 19 Celsius,

0:00:220:00:25

around average for the time of year,

0:00:250:00:27

if not a little bit lower.

0:00:270:00:28

Bringing about the change,

0:00:280:00:30

this weather front,

0:00:300:00:31

which swept through the last stages of Sunday.

0:00:310:00:33

That puts us into those westerly winds,

0:00:330:00:35

bringing a mixture of some brighter,

0:00:350:00:37

sunny spells through Monday -

0:00:370:00:38

best of which are towards eastern parts -

0:00:380:00:40

and a few showers, most likely in the West.

0:00:400:00:42

The showers though, well scattered

0:00:420:00:43

on Monday, which means most

0:00:430:00:45

will spend the bulk of the day dry,

0:00:450:00:46

if not the entire day. More likely to see

0:00:460:00:48

showers in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

0:00:480:00:50

And here, temperatures

0:00:500:00:51

a little bit lower for the time of year,

0:00:510:00:53

around 15 to 17 degrees.

0:00:530:00:54

But the humid air we've seen

0:00:540:00:55

across East Anglia and the south-east

0:00:550:00:57

has certainly cleared. You might just catch

0:00:570:00:59

one or two showers across eastern England

0:00:590:01:01

to finish Monday, but through

0:01:010:01:02

the night, most become dry.

0:01:020:01:03

Showers continue in northern Scotland,

0:01:030:01:05

with a very blustery wind, and by night,

0:01:050:01:08

temperatures dropping away a little bit.

0:01:080:01:10

A fresher feel, but by no means cold,

0:01:100:01:13

temperatures staying in double figures,

0:01:130:01:15

if not into the teens.

0:01:150:01:16

So this is the set-up for Tuesday,

0:01:160:01:18

the Azores High just to the south-west of us,

0:01:180:01:21

low pressure to the north of us,

0:01:210:01:22

so we continue with that flow of westerly winds.

0:01:220:01:24

If anything, a bit more cloud on Tuesday,

0:01:240:01:26

particularly England and Wales,

0:01:260:01:27

more likely to see wetter weather for a time.

0:01:270:01:29

South-west England and South Wales.

0:01:290:01:31

Nothing hugely substantial, the odd shower elsewhere,

0:01:310:01:33

some sunny spells -

0:01:330:01:34

best of which down these eastern parts,

0:01:340:01:37

where again, temperatures

0:01:370:01:38

could lift into the low 20s.

0:01:380:01:39

And don't forget, we are still in July,

0:01:390:01:41

the warmth of that sunshine overhead

0:01:410:01:43

certainly will make itself known.

0:01:430:01:44

Through Tuesday night into Wednesday

0:01:440:01:46

we are likely to see a bit more cloud

0:01:460:01:48

coming from this system working its way across,

0:01:480:01:50

so generally, a few more showers

0:01:500:01:52

across England and Wales.

0:01:520:01:53

Further north, a little bit brighter,

0:01:530:01:55

always breezy though across

0:01:550:01:57

the far north of Scotland.

0:01:570:01:58

That area of low pressure

0:01:580:02:00

never moving too far away.

0:02:000:02:01

Through Wednesday night into Thursday though,

0:02:010:02:03

could see a more significant

0:02:030:02:05

spell of rain.

0:02:050:02:06

We're not talking huge amounts,

0:02:060:02:07

but it will bring what

0:02:070:02:09

looks like some wetter weather

0:02:090:02:10

into Northern Ireland, Scotland

0:02:100:02:11

and western parts of England and Wales.

0:02:110:02:13

At this range, that could be a bit further north,

0:02:130:02:16

could be a little bit further south.

0:02:160:02:17

The further south and east

0:02:170:02:18

you are you are more likely to stay

0:02:180:02:20

largely dry, and temperatures

0:02:200:02:21

very familiar throughout the week,

0:02:210:02:23

the mid-teens to the low 20s. Into Friday night,

0:02:230:02:25

that system just pushes its way

0:02:250:02:27

slowly towards the North Sea.

0:02:270:02:29

We will continue to see some showers from it,

0:02:290:02:32

not huge amounts of rain admittedly,

0:02:320:02:34

but things will gradually turn

0:02:340:02:35

a bit brighter in the west.

0:02:350:02:36

But the wind is going in

0:02:360:02:37

a north-westerly direction later,

0:02:370:02:39

introduces even cooler air to parts of Scotland

0:02:390:02:41

and Northern Ireland. You'll have noticed,

0:02:410:02:43

through the week I've been mentioning the word "showers",

0:02:430:02:46

an indication that rainfall amounts

0:02:460:02:47

will vary hugely. Some will stay dry,

0:02:470:02:49

and that could be crucial, because,

0:02:490:02:50

after a very wet start to summer,

0:02:500:02:52

things have got much drier across the south and east.

0:02:520:02:55

Some, including on the Isle of Wight,

0:02:550:02:57

we have barely seen a millimetre

0:02:570:02:58

of rainfall so far this July.

0:02:580:02:59

And I can't guarantee we will

0:02:590:03:01

see much more than that,

0:03:010:03:03

because as that low pressure system

0:03:030:03:05

pushes off into the continent

0:03:050:03:06

next weekend, we open the door

0:03:060:03:08

to north-westerly winds,

0:03:080:03:09

keeping things a little on the cool side,

0:03:090:03:11

but it does mean what pushes down

0:03:110:03:13

in that flow will tend to be showers.

0:03:130:03:15

Showers tend to be hit and miss,

0:03:150:03:17

and the further south and east

0:03:170:03:18

you are, you're more likely to be dry.

0:03:180:03:20

It doesn mean though, north-westerly winds,

0:03:200:03:22

quite cool for the time of year

0:03:220:03:23

across northern and western areas,

0:03:230:03:25

and it's likely to be

0:03:250:03:26

a bit breezier next weekend

0:03:260:03:27

before things turn a touch warmer

0:03:270:03:29

for the start of the following week.

0:03:290:03:31

A pioneer. A great American icon.

0:03:330:03:36

She scandalised New York with her abstract flower paintings and found

0:03:360:03:41

the solitude and inspiration she needed in the deserts of New Mexico.
