Hello. Fed up with that cool breeze? | 0:00:02 | 0:00:03
Well, if you are a fan of warm weather, | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
I may have a treat for you, | 0:00:05 | 0:00:06
because although it wasn't on the menu a few days ago, | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
it now does look as if we are | 0:00:09 | 0:00:10
going to get some really warm air | 0:00:10 | 0:00:12
pumping up towards us | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
come the early part of next week. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
That's a complete transformation | 0:00:16 | 0:00:17
from what we have got at the moment | 0:00:17 | 0:00:19
- cool north-westerly winds, | 0:00:19 | 0:00:21
and certainly there is a nip in that breeze. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:24
We start Tuesday with temperatures | 0:00:24 | 0:00:26
well down, widely in single figures, | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
as low as three or four degrees | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
across the glens of Scotland. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
Chilly start, but some sunshine | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
should soon warm things up. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:35
There will be some blue sky | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
and sunshine through the morning, | 0:00:37 | 0:00:38
but already some showers across | 0:00:38 | 0:00:40
parts of northern England, and in general, | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
the showers will turn more widespread across | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
northern parts of the UK. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:45
Best of the brightness further south. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
Now, the focus of the showers by mid-afternoon - | 0:00:47 | 0:00:50
this is four o'clock - | 0:00:50 | 0:00:51
will be from parts of south-west Scotland across | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
the borders into parts of north-east England. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
Fairly frequent and sharp showers here, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
serving to keep those temperatures down, | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
so mid-teens - disappointing. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
Further south, it will be drier, | 0:01:01 | 0:01:02
brighter, some sunshine, | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
particularly for parts of | 0:01:04 | 0:01:05
South Wales, the Midlands, East Anglia, | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
and certainly southern counties. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:09
Up into the low 20s in places, and in general, | 0:01:09 | 0:01:11
the winds won't be as blustery | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
as they were on Monday. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:14
Looking further ahead then, | 0:01:14 | 0:01:15
Tuesday night into Wednesday, | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
we have got this whole string of | 0:01:17 | 0:01:18
weather fronts coming down | 0:01:18 | 0:01:19
from the north-west | 0:01:19 | 0:01:20
and across the country, | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
so there will be a fair bit of cloud | 0:01:22 | 0:01:23
around on Wednesday, particularly out west, | 0:01:23 | 0:01:26
with some sporadic outbreaks of rain | 0:01:26 | 0:01:28
drifting southwards on the breeze. | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
The best of any brightness across | 0:01:30 | 0:01:31
eastern parts of the country, | 0:01:31 | 0:01:33
but in general, with a lot of cloud | 0:01:33 | 0:01:34
in the sky after a chilly start, | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
temperatures are going to struggle. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
Quite a cool-feeling day, mid to high teens, | 0:01:38 | 0:01:40
possibly the low 20s, and the best | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
of the sunshine across the south-east. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
Fast forward to Thursday | 0:01:44 | 0:01:46
and another set of fronts, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:47
this time targeting the north-west of the UK, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
particularly in the west of Scotland. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
We could see quite a lot | 0:01:52 | 0:01:53
of rain through Thursday and into Friday, | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
we will have to keep an eye on that. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
Pretty wet and windy here. | 0:01:57 | 0:01:58
By and large, the further south | 0:01:58 | 0:01:59
we go, it will be drier, brighter, warmer too. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
The first hints of that warmth | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
developing actually across | 0:02:03 | 0:02:04
some southern counties, possibly up into | 0:02:04 | 0:02:07
the low, maybe mid, twenties. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:09
Friday, that rain is still there, | 0:02:09 | 0:02:10
pummeling the west of Scotland. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
As I say, will have to keep an eye | 0:02:12 | 0:02:13
on that, quite a lot of rain. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
Once more, it will be drier, | 0:02:15 | 0:02:16
brighter and warmer | 0:02:16 | 0:02:17
the further south and east we go. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
24, possibly 25 degrees. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
This weather front, this cold front, | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
tries to stagger its way south-eastwards | 0:02:24 | 0:02:26
as we hit the weekend, but it's a weakening feature. | 0:02:26 | 0:02:28
Just a band of cloud and little more | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
then just the odd spot of rain. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
On either side of that, | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
plenty of dry weather to start | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
the weekend, and again, | 0:02:35 | 0:02:36
the only sunshine across the south-east. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
It will feel pretty warm, a bit fresher behind that | 0:02:38 | 0:02:41
weather front across the north and west, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
but the winds will be fairly light. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:44
That weather front really dying a death, | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
not much on it, | 0:02:46 | 0:02:48
and the reason for that is because | 0:02:48 | 0:02:49
it is kind of detached from the jet stream. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
The jet stream looks like | 0:02:52 | 0:02:53
pushing back northwards | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
to the north of the UK, | 0:02:55 | 0:02:56
and that is going to | 0:02:56 | 0:02:57
cause that significant change | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
in weather as we go to the early part | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
of next week, because, as we get a dome | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
in the jet stream, | 0:03:03 | 0:03:04
we're going to start to | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
draw in those warm | 0:03:06 | 0:03:07
or even hot south-easterly winds. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
And there is every chance | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
that some places | 0:03:11 | 0:03:12
by the early part of next week | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
could be hitting 30 degrees - | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
too hot for some, I know. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
So the message is, | 0:03:18 | 0:03:19
a hot spell, albeit brief perhaps, | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
thunderstorms increasingly likely | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
and it could turn cooler | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
again by the end of the week. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:26
Watch this space, | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
I will update you again tomorrow. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:29 |
