Hello. Well, some of us have seen too much rain this summer. | 0:00:01 | 0:00:04
Others haven't seen enough. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
And we'll keep with the uneven distribution over the next few days, | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
so for holiday-makers, well, deckchair weather for some, | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
whereas for others, you might be tempted | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
to head to the amusement arcades. On a more serious note, | 0:00:14 | 0:00:18
across the north-west of Scotland through Thursday and Friday, | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
relentless rain here. The totals adding up, 100mm or more - | 0:00:21 | 0:00:25
a lot of water cascading down the mountainside. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
Met Office warnings in force - it could be quite nasty | 0:00:28 | 0:00:31
if you are heading to the north-west of Scotland. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
Lot of wet weather here to start the day on Thursday, | 0:00:33 | 0:00:36
and some dampness down the eastern side of England as well. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:39
That'll tend to die out, but we'll keep a lot of cloud. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:43
The best of the brightness by far will be further south-west, | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
so for the likes of South Wales, much of southern England, | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
it's going to be a fine afternoon. This is four o'clock - | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
temperatures in the low twenties, it should feel very pleasant. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
More cloud further north - much of the rain will have died away, | 0:00:54 | 0:00:58
and a few breaks to the east of the Pennines. | 0:00:58 | 0:01:00
Some dampness still over the Cumbrian fells. | 0:01:00 | 0:01:03
Northern Ireland drying out, mostly cloudy, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
bit of brightness for eastern Scotland | 0:01:05 | 0:01:07
but yet more rain for the west of Scotland, | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
particularly the far north-west with those strong and gusty winds. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
And gusty winds will be a feature across many northern parts of the UK | 0:01:13 | 0:01:16
through Thursday night and into Friday. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
Further persistent and heavy rain across the north-west Highlands - | 0:01:19 | 0:01:22
in contrast, further south, it's going to be a nice end to the week, | 0:01:22 | 0:01:25
actually, temperatures up into the mid-twenties | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
with a lot of sunshine | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
across more southern and eastern parts of England in particular. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
Looking ahead to the weekend, the weather front starts to head south, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
but it loses its oomph - just a band of cloud which should clear through | 0:01:35 | 0:01:40
and for most of us through the weekend, | 0:01:40 | 0:01:41
with high pressure building in, the weather settling down. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
I'm not ruling out the odd shower, particularly across northern areas, | 0:01:44 | 0:01:48
but a lot of dry weather, hopefully some sunshine. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:50
Some areas of cloud floating around. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:52
So this weekend, if you are heading outdoors then I've got good news. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:57
Some sunshine to be enjoyed, most of us dry. | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
It'll feel pleasantly warm, not excessively warm, | 0:01:59 | 0:02:02
and Monday is going to be another fine day. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
Temperatures on the rise in response to a lot of sunshine - | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
much better prospects across the north-west of Scotland, for example. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
Up into the mid-twenties further south. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
Here's the big picture. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
The high pressure edging over to the eastern side of the UK | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
and we're going to start to draw up winds | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
from the south or the south-east. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
And those will be increasingly warm, if not hot, winds | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
through the early part of next week. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:27
Quite a gusty wind, in fact. You'll notice that, | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
and it's areas most sheltered from that wind | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
which will probably see the highest temperatures. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
Now, the computer models have some consensus now that | 0:02:35 | 0:02:38
we'll see those temperatures peaking round about Tuesday, | 0:02:38 | 0:02:41
and we could be close to 30 degrees in some places, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
where you've got some shelter from that breeze. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:47
Certainly a lot of sunshine on offer. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
How long does it last? Well, frankly, not all that long. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
Because those computer models are indicating that by midweek, | 0:02:52 | 0:02:55
we're going to start to see thundery low pressure | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
pushing in from the south-west with some heavy downpours possible | 0:02:57 | 0:03:01
as we get towards the middle of the week, and after that, | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
those computer models indicate | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
that the weather's going to slide back down to normal again, | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
with some more unsettled and at times wet weather. | 0:03:08 | 0:03:12
So to sum up the week ahead, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
we are going to see those very warm winds | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
developing through the early part of next week, | 0:03:16 | 0:03:19
then the thundery breakdown, the details of which | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
are a little bit uncertain, but after that, | 0:03:22 | 0:03:24
those fresher conditions coming in from the west. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
That's it, we'll update you again tomorrow. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29
