If you've been with me so far this week you'll know our weather | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
is set to get a bit more disturbed as we head into the weekend. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:08
Stirring things up is a jet stream, | 0:00:08 | 0:00:10
which is springing into life across the North Atlantic | 0:00:10 | 0:00:12
at the moment after the recent heat across the US, | 0:00:12 | 0:00:15
and it's where we see this little kink in the jet stream. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:18
At the base of that, an area of low pressure which will develop | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
further as we go through Thursday and into Friday. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:25
It's a little bit away at the moment, admittedly, | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
and we start Thursday with this weather front - this is what | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
brought the thundery downpours to end Wednesday across | 0:00:29 | 0:00:32
some southern and western areas. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
Zone of cloud, some occasional rain here, especially in the morning. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
Just one or two showers later on, most will have a dry day. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:40
And even further north, after some morning low cloud, | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
some good sunny spells winning through. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:44
Not quite as warm as it has been through recent days | 0:00:44 | 0:00:46
but we can still see temperatures of 22-25 Celsius quite easily - | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
away from those eastern coasts, that is. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
Still a south-easterly breeze here. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
Going into the night, dry here, in fact, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
through Thursday night into Friday, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
but that area of low pressure I mentioned is sending | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
a forward band of rain ahead of it, starting to push into Ireland, | 0:00:59 | 0:01:04
Wales and the south-west of England as we start Friday morning. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
Temperatures holding up across the south, | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
little bit cooler further north. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:11
It'll be the far north of Scotland best favoured | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
for the driest, brightest weather throughout. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
If you start with some morning brightness, it won't last all day. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
Bands of rain erratically pushing their way northwards and eastwards. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
Bands in that it won't rain all day long for many of you - | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
still some drier, brighter moments, | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
especially across the south-west later on. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
But note the temperatures - | 0:01:27 | 0:01:28
after starting the week above average, | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
we're back below average for the time of year. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
Now, those weather fronts are all linked into that area | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
of low pressure I mentioned. Here it is behind. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
It sets up stall into the weekend. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
It's an unseasonably deep low pressure for this time of year, | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42
more of an autumn chart than a late summer one. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
Wrapped around it, some weather fronts bringing some longer | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
spells of rain but essentially, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
as far as rainfall amount is concerned, it will be fairly varied. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
Sunshine and showers, some seeing more rain than others. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
The big story will be the strength of the wind, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:57
England and Wales especially, | 0:01:57 | 0:01:58
and particularly around these southern and western coasts. | 0:01:58 | 0:02:01
Gale-force winds and some rough seas. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
So if you have any outdoor plans, keep tuned to the forecast - | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
there may be some problems, may be some disruption, | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
and temperatures again only high teens, low 20s at best. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:12
The windy weather with occasional rain lasts through Saturday night | 0:02:12 | 0:02:15
into Sunday but low pressure pushes off towards Denmark and then | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
through Sunday, ridge of high pressure tries to build in. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
Still got some blustery winds across the country on Sunday but frequent | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
showers to begin with, become a little less frequent later on. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
Some drier and brighter weather in the west. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
But because those winds were a north-westerly direction, | 0:02:29 | 0:02:32
temperatures won't pick up too much. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
You need to be out the breeze in the sunshine, which is still | 0:02:33 | 0:02:36
strong enough this time of year to feel the full benefit of the warmth. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
And it's just a temporary ridge of high pressure because | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
through Sunday night into Monday, | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
another deep low out to the west throws these weather fronts our way. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:47
Exactly how far eastwards they get a bit uncertain at the moment, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
and it could be that some eastern parts of the country stay dry | 0:02:50 | 0:02:52
and bright through much of the day, reasonably pleasant. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:55
Elsewhere clouds, outbreaks of rain, | 0:02:55 | 0:02:56
but we could start to bring in something a little bit warmer, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:59
especially towards the south-east, for a time. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
And then next week we see these weather fronts just scoot up | 0:03:01 | 0:03:05
the western portion initially. | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
This low pressure still driving things but with it sitting there, | 0:03:07 | 0:03:10
we will see some further areas of rain work their way, | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
especially across northern and western parts of the country, | 0:03:13 | 0:03:16
maybe some breezy conditions to go with it. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
The further south and east you are, can't rule out some rain at times. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
Always a little bit drier and brighter and still every | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
chance that every now and again we could bring in something warmer too. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:27
Jay Wynne will keep you updated over the coming days. Bye for now. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:30 |
