We started the week with lots of fine weather across large

0:00:030:00:05

swathes of the UK, lots of sunshine and some warmth.

0:00:050:00:08

It went downhill a bit for the end of the week with some rain

0:00:080:00:10

spreading northwards and eastwards and for the start of the weekend,

0:00:100:00:13

this is the big picture, this dartboard low sat across the UK,

0:00:130:00:17

this is the sort of shot you'd expect to see in autumn,

0:00:170:00:20

not at the latter stages of summer.

0:00:200:00:22

So, some unseasonably windy conditions across the UK.

0:00:220:00:24

It's going to be really wet for some places as well.

0:00:240:00:27

Very gusty winds associated with that low,

0:00:270:00:30

so into the afternoon, we are still looking at gale force winds

0:00:300:00:33

around the coast in the south and the west,

0:00:330:00:35

gusts getting to 50, maybe 60mph.

0:00:350:00:37

High tides and some large waves in those gusty winds -

0:00:370:00:40

not a great combination.

0:00:400:00:42

We'll see gusts of 40mph or more inland.

0:00:420:00:44

With the trees in full leaf and lots of outdoor events planned,

0:00:440:00:47

it's not good combination.

0:00:470:00:48

And to go with all that, some heavy showers or long spells of rain

0:00:480:00:51

across Northern Ireland, southern Scotland and northern England, too.

0:00:510:00:54

But some brighter weather in the far north of Scotland.

0:00:540:00:57

Temperature wise, well, 17 or 18 degrees for many.

0:00:570:01:00

If you get brighter weather in the south-eastern corner,

0:01:000:01:03

it might pop up to 21 for a time.

0:01:030:01:05

Through the evening,

0:01:050:01:07

the centre of the low is beginning to drift off into the North Sea,

0:01:070:01:09

taking its strongest winds with it but still

0:01:090:01:12

a blustery night with some showers dotted around.

0:01:120:01:15

But with the wind keeping the air well mixed,

0:01:150:01:17

it's 14 or 15 degrees once again.

0:01:170:01:19

The big picture for Sunday sees that first low

0:01:190:01:23

drifting away into the North Sea,

0:01:230:01:24

another system is lurking in the Atlantic

0:01:240:01:27

so on Sunday, we are in between systems.

0:01:270:01:29

It is an improving day, really.

0:01:290:01:31

Still a blustery day but nowhere as windy as Saturday.

0:01:310:01:34

Still a few showers dotted around

0:01:340:01:35

but nowhere near as many as Saturday.

0:01:350:01:37

So, with a bit more sunshine,

0:01:370:01:38

I think those temperatures should respond, the low 20s for Newcastle

0:01:380:01:41

and Glasgow, maybe up to 22 or 23 in the south-eastern corner.

0:01:410:01:46

Some rain late in the day on Sunday in the south west,

0:01:460:01:48

thanks to this weather system which is approaching from the Atlantic.

0:01:480:01:51

Notice how the strongest winds stay well to the north

0:01:510:01:54

and the west of the UK.

0:01:540:01:55

Still a breezy day on Monday, with a lot of cloud,

0:01:550:01:58

and outbreaks of rain spreading to many parts.

0:01:580:02:00

Quite a dull sort of day.

0:02:000:02:02

23, possibly the highest temperature in the south-eastern corner.

0:02:020:02:05

In the high teens further north.

0:02:050:02:07

Then Monday night into Tuesday,

0:02:070:02:08

we've still got this trailing weather front

0:02:080:02:11

that is draped somewhere across the north and west of the UK.

0:02:110:02:13

And I think to the north of that,

0:02:130:02:15

there may well be a shower or two but some brighter spells as well.

0:02:150:02:18

To the south of that, we are starting to see temperatures rising.

0:02:180:02:21

It could get up to 25 or 26 degrees in that south-eastern corner.

0:02:210:02:24

High teens once again further north.

0:02:240:02:26

Not a great deal of change, really, into the middle part of the week.

0:02:260:02:29

We've still got that weather front draped there or thereabouts

0:02:290:02:32

across northern England and into Wales as well.

0:02:320:02:34

That will bring some rain - some of that could be on the heavy side.

0:02:340:02:37

To the north of that, again, a few showers, and high teens,

0:02:370:02:39

maybe the low 20s, but it's the high 20s further south,

0:02:390:02:42

some warm air is wafting its way in from the near continent.

0:02:420:02:45

Now, into the latter part of next week,

0:02:450:02:47

we've still got that dividing line there or thereabouts.

0:02:470:02:50

It might shift a bit further north or south.

0:02:500:02:51

To the north of it, though, it will be that bit fresher,

0:02:510:02:54

with showers dotted around.

0:02:540:02:55

To the south of that, it looks like temperatures are on the rise.

0:02:550:02:58

If you were with me last night,

0:02:580:02:59

where we were looking at the temperatures in southern England,

0:02:590:03:02

this is where we should be, the green line here,

0:03:020:03:04

and you can see that previous thoughts had

0:03:040:03:06

quite a range of possibilities for those temperatures

0:03:060:03:08

through the middle part of the week.

0:03:080:03:11

Now, the computer models from around the world are much more

0:03:110:03:15

together with their ideas

0:03:150:03:16

about the temperatures for Wednesday, Thursday,

0:03:160:03:18

and the general trend is for those temperatures to rise.

0:03:180:03:21

But as you can see, it looks like the range of possibilities

0:03:210:03:23

becomes really quite wide again

0:03:230:03:24

as we go through Friday and on into the weekend.

0:03:240:03:27

So, stay tuned for the forecast. Bye for now.
