Hi, there. There's a few days to go but when the stats are all in, | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
September will have proved to be a notably warm month for many of us. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
It looks like ending on a cooler note. | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
In the process, there's going to be some wind and rain around, | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
particularly across the more northern | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
and western parts of the UK. | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
Further south than east, there will still be some rain but | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19
generally it will be dry here and the winds won't be as strong either. | 0:00:19 | 0:00:23
And certainly we start Monday with most of the rain out West, | 0:00:23 | 0:00:27
particularly across parts of Devon, Cornwall and Wales, | 0:00:27 | 0:00:30
where there are warnings in force. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:31
Whereas further east across England, the odd shower | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
but a lot of dry weather to start proceedings. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
Some of this showery rain pushing its way up the Irish Sea | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
into North-Western parts of England, | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
a glancing blow for Northern Ireland. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
A lot of dry weather across Scotland at this stage. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
The odd shower across the north-west corner. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:48
A chilly start to the day here. As we go through the day, | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
this rain is going to push its way in a northerly direction, | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
really, pushing up into the southern half of Scotland. | 0:00:53 | 0:00:57
Northern Ireland probably escaping most of the rain. | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
Northern England seeing some wet weather later | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
but East Anglia and the south-east, you'll notice, still largely dry, | 0:01:01 | 0:01:05
where it stays wet out West it will be a pretty cool-feeling day, | 0:01:05 | 0:01:08
13 or 14 Celsius. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
Some dampness still to come as we head into the night, | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
although I think it'll tend to fade away. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
Just dribs and drabs left behind by the time we get into Tuesday. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:19
Particularly around exposed coastal areas, | 0:01:19 | 0:01:21
up over the hills there'll be some drizzly rain and fog too. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
We could see some breaks in the cloud cover | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
and because it's quite a muggy air mass, | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
temperatures could get up into the low 20s, | 0:01:27 | 0:01:30
if you see some decent sunshine. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:31
Quite windy, though, across the north of Scotland in particular. | 0:01:31 | 0:01:35
As we head towards the middle of the week, | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
the next weather system on the conveyor belt comes steaming | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
in off the Atlantic, targeting the north-west of the UK with | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
some rain, but more importantly, some pretty strong winds too. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:46
We'll see some gales whistling across Scotland in particular, | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
so watch out for warnings for this part of the world. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
Some rain here but again, further south and east, drier, brighter, | 0:01:51 | 0:01:54
warmer up, until the low 20s and the wind won't be so strong either. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:59
But this weather front's important. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:00
As it starts to head its way south-eastwards, | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
there's a cold front and on Thursday | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
it'll be pushing some rain in across England and Wales. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:07
Probably not making it to the far south-east | 0:02:07 | 0:02:09
till late on in the day. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
But behind that, cooler air starts to come in, | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
so temperatures somewhat lower, despite some sunshine. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:15
There'll be some blustery showers across Western Scotland, | 0:02:15 | 0:02:18
Northern Ireland as well. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:19
Still some relative warmth across the far south-east. | 0:02:19 | 0:02:22
But that front looks like clearing its way south-eastwards on Friday, | 0:02:22 | 0:02:26
the last day of September, and then we're all into that sort of | 0:02:26 | 0:02:29
cooler feed of West or north-westerly winds. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
There will be some sunshine. But still some showers again, | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
particularly across the north and west and temperatures not as high | 0:02:34 | 0:02:37
as they have been across the south-east and distinctly chilly | 0:02:37 | 0:02:40
in the breeze further north and west. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
So, why is the weather beginning to turn cooler? | 0:02:42 | 0:02:45
Well, the reason is the jet stream and it's going to start to head | 0:02:45 | 0:02:49
its way southwards as we end the week, as we end the month. | 0:02:49 | 0:02:53
And with the jet stream to the south of us we go into October, | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
that allows cold air to come in from the Arctic. | 0:02:57 | 0:03:00
Now, don't go away with the idea | 0:03:00 | 0:03:01
that it's going to get desperately chilly. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
By no means, but certainly cooler than it has been | 0:03:03 | 0:03:06
as we turn the month, as the blue shades indicate. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
And so, for the first few days of October at least, | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
it does look like a slightly different complexion to the weather. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:15
Certainly chillier than it has been for a good few of us. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
Sunshine and showers and a risk, just a risk, | 0:03:18 | 0:03:21
of some overnight frost. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
So, some changes coming up and Louise Lear will be with you here | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
again tomorrow to update you on the detail. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
Need a medic. Humanitarian mission on the Somali border. | 0:03:31 | 0:03:34
GUNSHOT The situation has now escalated. | 0:03:34 | 0:03:37
Abu is out there somewhere. | 0:03:38 | 0:03:41
Anything happen between you and Elvis? | 0:03:41 | 0:03:43 |
