If you were watching yesterday, | 0:00:03 | 0:00:04
I was indicating how the behaviour of Hurricane Matthew | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
could influence our weather eventually. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
Now, that is still the case, | 0:00:08 | 0:00:09
but there are still big question marks, | 0:00:09 | 0:00:11
as we'll see in a moment. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:12
What we ARE confident about | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
is the fact that easterly winds will cool things off across | 0:00:14 | 0:00:16
our part of the world in the next few days - | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
those winds coming off a cooling continent at this time of year, | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
and carrying a bit more cloud than we've seen in recent days, | 0:00:21 | 0:00:24
and eventually that cloud could produce the odd shower | 0:00:24 | 0:00:26
across parts of East Anglia and the far south-east. | 0:00:26 | 0:00:28
Still a lot of dry weather, | 0:00:28 | 0:00:29
and the best of the sunshine further north and west - | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
Western Scotland doing pretty well, but wherever you are, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:34
temperatures will be a little bit lower | 0:00:34 | 0:00:35
than they have been in recent days, | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
and, as we head into the night and on into Friday, | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
that cloud becomes more widespread, | 0:00:39 | 0:00:40
and the showers become more widespread, too. | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
No great amounts, | 0:00:42 | 0:00:43
and there'll still be a lot of dry weather out there on Friday, | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
but more cloud than we've seen recently, | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
and in the breeze it will feel quite chilly, | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
I think, particularly where you're exposed to it | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
along those north sea currents, but still some sunshine to be had - | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
again, Western Scotland particularly well placed. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
Now, in broad terms, | 0:00:56 | 0:00:57
the picture isn't really changing that much | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
as we head through this weekend. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
We've still got those easterly winds, | 0:01:01 | 0:01:02
so it's all quite cool, | 0:01:02 | 0:01:04
and they'll tend to moisten up, as well. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:06
That means more cloud and more showers, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
especially across the more central and eastern parts of the UK. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:12
I mention cool - if anything, it's going to cool off even more, | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
with this area of blue pushing in from the north-east. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:19
Not desperately cold - it's only October - | 0:01:19 | 0:01:21
but temperatures will be below normal | 0:01:21 | 0:01:23
for the time of year. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
Not helped by all that cloud, and if you get caught by a shower, | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
it won't feel all that pleasant. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:28
There will be some sharp showers around - | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
particularly, again, across some central and eastern areas. | 0:01:30 | 0:01:33
West best once more for dry and bright weather - | 0:01:33 | 0:01:35
but nowhere will it be warm. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:36
At least the winds will start to ease off through this weekend - | 0:01:36 | 0:01:39
mind you, that does mean that overnight, | 0:01:39 | 0:01:41
if the skies stay clear, we could see a touch of frost, | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
and maybe one or two fog patches, | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
but generally a lot of cloud out there, some showers, | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
and that's really the scenery on Monday, | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
with some showers, again, across central and eastern areas, | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
western parts of the UK | 0:01:52 | 0:01:53
continuing to see the best of the dry and bright weather, | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
but a chilly feel wherever you are | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
as we get into the early part of next week. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
Now, what about Hurricane Matthew? | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
Well, there it is, it's a monster. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
If anything, it's strengthening again, | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
and it's ploughing its way towards the Bahamas. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
This is a serious storm, still, and with fierce winds, | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
a huge storm surge, and colossal amounts of rainfall. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:17
That is bad news for the Bahamas | 0:02:17 | 0:02:19
as it rips through on Thursday, | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
and then too close for comfort | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
to the eastern coast of Florida. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:24
It could make landfall with huge impact - | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
and then it heads its way northwards. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
Now, if you were watching on Tuesday, | 0:02:29 | 0:02:30
I was indicating that the computer models | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
suggested that the storm would continue to move its way northwards | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
up the eastern seaboard towards Newfoundland | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
and even as far as Greenland, | 0:02:37 | 0:02:39
and that would lead to a build of high pressure | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
across our part of the world. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
Well, now, the computer models | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
are, well, changing their mind a little bit. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
It looks like the storm will head north, | 0:02:47 | 0:02:49
but then stall, | 0:02:49 | 0:02:50
and could then begin to head back southwards again, | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
and be influenced by another storm, | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
Tropical Storm Nicole, | 0:02:55 | 0:02:56
in the same part of the world. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:57
So, again, the impact of that | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
on our weather back home, not clear cut - | 0:02:59 | 0:03:02
but what the computer models are indicating, | 0:03:02 | 0:03:05
that through the weekend and beyond, | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
the temperature does stay below normal, | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
green is the normal, | 0:03:09 | 0:03:10
most of the computer models are indicating | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
that that chilly theme | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
continues right the way through next week - | 0:03:14 | 0:03:17
but that could change depending on Matthew. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
But, to sum up next week, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:21
yes, it looks like staying pretty chilly. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:23
Those showers continue, | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
and the brightest weather | 0:03:25 | 0:03:26
looks like staying across western parts. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
Sarah updates you tomorrow. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:29
Back in the firing line... | 0:03:32 | 0:03:33
I'm the business equivalent of a diamond. | 0:03:33 | 0:03:35
..18 new candidates are going for broke. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:37 |
