It's been a good week for getting out and enjoying the autumn colours, | 0:00:02 | 0:00:05
especially where you've been lucky enough to see occasional sunshine. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:08
Lovely view from one of our Weather Watchers on Friday | 0:00:08 | 0:00:10
in the grounds of Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:13
Beautiful colours on show. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:15
And each day this week, if you've had a bit of sunshine, | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
temperatures have been as high as around 18 Celsius. | 0:00:17 | 0:00:20
Of course, that's well above average for this stage of October. | 0:00:20 | 0:00:23
And the mild weather will stay with us through the weekend | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
into the very first part of next week. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:28
The air is coming around this area of high pressure | 0:00:28 | 0:00:30
from the west, south-west. | 0:00:30 | 0:00:32
It is bringing quite a lot moisture our way through the weekend, | 0:00:32 | 0:00:35
and it's not necessarily in the way of rain, | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
but plenty of cloud coming our way, | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
so sunshine will be harder to come by. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
The colours show the type of air, the air mass, | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
the temperature of the air rather than the sunshine on offer. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
The blue's indicating the colder air | 0:00:46 | 0:00:48
to the north and north-west of the UK, | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
and it looks like some of this will filter southwards | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
across the UK next week, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:54
and we'll look at that in just a moment. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:57
First of all, though, let's take you through the weekend weather. | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
A foggy start in places on Saturday morning, hill fog in the west, | 0:00:59 | 0:01:03
low-level fog patches elsewhere in England and Wales. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
Western hills throughout the weekend | 0:01:06 | 0:01:08
could see some occasional drizzle at times. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
East is best, or most favoured, | 0:01:10 | 0:01:13
for the chance of getting a bit of sunshine occasionally. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
Probably going to see the highest temperatures too. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:18
It's on the mild side wherever you are, and light winds as well. | 0:01:18 | 0:01:21
Now, there is a weather front approaching from the Atlantic | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
as we go through Saturday night and into Sunday. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
What that means for Northern Ireland and Scotland, | 0:01:26 | 0:01:29
a bit of a change, | 0:01:29 | 0:01:30
there will be some outbreaks of rain around, | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
patchy in nature, coming and going, not all of us will see them, | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
but there's potential for seeing some heavier bursts. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
But we're more likely to see in the way of sunshine | 0:01:37 | 0:01:39
reaching parts of south-east England on Sunday. | 0:01:39 | 0:01:42
Sunday is Diwali, the festival of light. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:45
Sunset, an hour earlier on Sunday, | 0:01:45 | 0:01:47
which probably suits a festival of lights. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
Don't forget, of course, the clocks going back on Saturday night | 0:01:49 | 0:01:52
to lead to that early sunset. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:54
And then on Monday, we're still watching this weather front | 0:01:54 | 0:01:56
to the north-west of the UK. | 0:01:56 | 0:01:58
It's behind that we're eventually going to see | 0:01:58 | 0:02:00
some cooler air filtering in. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:01
Not moving very much on Monday, so it looks like | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
Scotland and Northern Ireland close to that. | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
Again, some of us will see some outbreaks of rain. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
But for parts of England and Wales, | 0:02:08 | 0:02:09
a slightly sunnier picture than we had over the weekend. | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
Now, into Tuesday, | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
our weather front is beginning to slip its way southwards. | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
Of course, with that, there will be cloud | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
and some outbreaks of rain, but probably patchy in nature. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
But across the northern half of the UK, notice a change? | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
Yes, temperatures are coming down, cooler areas filtering in. | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
But it's a sunnier picture too. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:29
So the change taking place | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
as we go through Tuesday into Wednesday. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
Dislodging the mild air, | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
getting something colder coming our way. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:37
Not terribly cold, though. | 0:02:37 | 0:02:38
It's just bringing temperatures down | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
closer to where we should expect them to be at this time of year, | 0:02:40 | 0:02:43
or closer to average, if you like. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
By Wednesday, the leading edge of that cooler air | 0:02:45 | 0:02:48
somewhere in southern England, | 0:02:48 | 0:02:49
a bit of uncertainty about how quickly it's going to clear away | 0:02:49 | 0:02:52
and allow that cooler air to come in. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
But, of course, that is the most significant change | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
in next week's weather. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
A dip in temperatures, closer to average. | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
There'll be sunshine with that dip, | 0:03:00 | 0:03:02
but also some showers around. | 0:03:02 | 0:03:03
Perhaps wintry on the hills of Scotland, | 0:03:03 | 0:03:06
perhaps into Northern England as well. | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
And a breezier picture for a time, | 0:03:08 | 0:03:10
especially down the eastern side of the UK. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
Looking a little further ahead into November, | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
we're expecting temperatures to be at or maybe slightly below average | 0:03:14 | 0:03:18
during the first part of November, | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
but looking less likely than usual at this time of year, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
deep areas of low pressure with strong winds, | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
which means getting out and enjoying those autumn colours. | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
Yeah, still looking good. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30 |
