Tuesday saw quite a variety of weather across the | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
United Kingdom as is often the case. | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
It was captured nicely by some of our weather watchers. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
Here's just a couple of examples. A lucky few saw some sunshine. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:12
That's the view in the afternoon across | 0:00:12 | 0:00:14
the Highlands of Scotland | 0:00:14 | 0:00:15
Pretty good one but it certainly wasn't like that for all. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:18
For many it was like this with some | 0:00:18 | 0:00:20
low cloud and | 0:00:20 | 0:00:21
mist lingering into the afternoon. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:23
A little bit of rain to go with that. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
But at least it was a mild day and it stays mild for the rest of | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
this week. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:28
A fair bit of cloud in the forecast and most of the rain will be | 0:00:28 | 0:00:32
on the western side of the UK. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
We've got some rain | 0:00:34 | 0:00:35
coming in from the west for Wednesday | 0:00:35 | 0:00:37
morning and notice a fair number of isobars, | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
as well so it's breezy but the | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
breeze is coming in from the south. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
And that's bringing mild air with it. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
That mild air pushes right the way across the UK. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:48
Temperatures will be doing very well for this stage in September. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
8 o'clock in the morning it's 10-11 degrees across large parts of | 0:00:51 | 0:00:55
Scotland, but a lot of cloud and some rain. | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
The rain heaviest in some central and western parts. | 0:00:57 | 0:00:59
Breezy too. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
Breezy and wet in Northern Ireland through the morning. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
Things should improve through the afternoon. | 0:01:03 | 0:01:05
It is mild, 10-11 degrees. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:06
Across England and Wales, 9-10 degrees quite widely. | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
A lot of cloud through the morning. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:10
Some of that's quite low over the hills. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
There's some hill fog and poor visibility to go with that. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
But most places are dry except in Cornwall, | 0:01:15 | 0:01:16
a little bit or rain here. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
This band of rain wants to move | 0:01:18 | 0:01:19
eastwards but it's a slow | 0:01:19 | 0:01:21
process so we will see a little rain in western Wales into Cornwall. | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
Northern Ireland should dry up into the afternoon but it will | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
be fairly wet for large parts of Scotland. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:29
Much of the eastern side of Wales, eastern England, | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
after a great start we brighten things up from the south. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:34
13-14 with a bit of sunshine but it is | 0:01:34 | 0:01:36
a double digit day across the board. | 0:01:36 | 0:01:40
Through the evening our weather front generally fizzles out. | 0:01:40 | 0:01:43
We look out west for the next system to head our way. | 0:01:43 | 0:01:45
This is trying to move eastwards but it's running into a big area | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
of high pressure across the near continent which will slow it down. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:51
It will get into Northern Ireland through the day. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
Breezy with rain coming in from the west later on. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
Ahead of that, dribs and drabs of rain really across Scotland | 0:01:55 | 0:01:58
and Northern England. | 0:01:58 | 0:01:59
The further south you are it's largely dry. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
And maybe a bit of sunshine here and there but generally a lot of cloud. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:05
Still mild, 10 or 11 degrees in the south. 8 and 9 further north. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:09
Through Friday on into Saturday high | 0:02:09 | 0:02:12
pressure builds across the UK | 0:02:12 | 0:02:14
and away from the northwest most | 0:02:14 | 0:02:15
places will be fine and dry | 0:02:15 | 0:02:16
and not particularly windy. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
By Sunday high pressure still in charge of our weather. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
The strongest winds will be in the north and west. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:23
Little bit of rainfall here. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
Elsewhere it's a largely dry if cloudy picture. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
Temperatures are coming down a little bit but still doing | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
quite well for this time of year. | 0:02:31 | 0:02:32
Into the early part of next week we'll take a look at the | 0:02:32 | 0:02:36
jet stream because it's powerful on the western side of the Atlantic. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
As it gets further east it has a tendency to split, | 0:02:38 | 0:02:41
it goes to the north and south of us. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
And that allows this big area of | 0:02:43 | 0:02:44
high pressure to dominate. | 0:02:44 | 0:02:46
That will be a blocking high | 0:02:46 | 0:02:47
stopping weather fronts | 0:02:47 | 0:02:48
coming in from the Atlantic. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:51
Underneath that area of | 0:02:51 | 0:02:52
high pressure there's going to be | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
a lot of dry weather, that's for sure. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:55
Particularly for central and eastern areas. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:57
There will be spells | 0:02:57 | 0:02:58
of sunshine but difficult to be pinpoint | 0:02:58 | 0:03:01
accurate with exactly where is going to see that. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:03
Where you do see sunshine | 0:03:03 | 0:03:04
you could see frost in the mornings. | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
Equally some places could be quite | 0:03:06 | 0:03:08
grey with some patches of fog, | 0:03:08 | 0:03:09
particularly where the winds are quite light and the fog could | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
lift into fairly low cloud. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:13
But there's a lot of dry | 0:03:13 | 0:03:14
weather in the forecast. | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
Even on into the latter part of next | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
week it looks dry for most | 0:03:18 | 0:03:19
places most of the time. | 0:03:19 | 0:03:20
A further update tomorrow. | 0:03:27 | 0:03:29 |
