Hello, there. It's almost as if the weather knows | 0:00:02 | 0:00:04
it's a bank holiday weekend upon us, | 0:00:04 | 0:00:06
because the devil is the detail this weekend. | 0:00:06 | 0:00:08
We're into the breakdown of the heat. The heat peaked on Friday. | 0:00:08 | 0:00:12
The highest temperatures of the year so far - 29 degrees, | 0:00:12 | 0:00:16
not far short of 30, at Lossiemouth - | 0:00:16 | 0:00:19
but that'll be the hottest I think we'll see | 0:00:19 | 0:00:22
during this spell. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:23
Still some heat around on Saturday, | 0:00:23 | 0:00:25
still some thundery showers making their way eastwards | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
across England and Wales through the morning hours, | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
and some of them with thunder and lightning. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
Wetter weather, potentially, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:32
for Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland - | 0:00:32 | 0:00:34
and then, when you add the fact | 0:00:34 | 0:00:36
that we've still got that heat and humidity around, with us, | 0:00:36 | 0:00:39
we will have some lively downpours into the afternoon. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
From the Midlands northwards, torrential thunderstorms | 0:00:41 | 0:00:45
with large hail and some flash flooding, potentially. | 0:00:45 | 0:00:47
Sea fog in the North. | 0:00:47 | 0:00:48
Not that many showers in the South, come the afternoon. | 0:00:48 | 0:00:51
It will feel cool around the coast. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:53
We could get 28 degrees, | 0:00:53 | 0:00:54
so, not far short of what we had on Friday, | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
but the heat is starting to diminish, | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
and it will gradually - or, we will gradually - | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
see those thunderstorms petering out through Sunday night. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:03
We keep some rain going, and temperatures are still high, | 0:01:03 | 0:01:06
but not as oppressive as it has been, | 0:01:06 | 0:01:09
and not as oppressive, I think, as it has been this week. | 0:01:09 | 0:01:12
So, that area of low pressure responsible | 0:01:12 | 0:01:14
for that first spell of thundery rain | 0:01:14 | 0:01:16
moving out of the way during Sunday. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:18
High pressure builds in behind it for a time, | 0:01:18 | 0:01:20
so, not a bad day, really. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
There'll be more cloud around, | 0:01:22 | 0:01:23
it will feel a little cooler and fresher in the north. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
We'll still have the heat in the South, and the humidity, | 0:01:25 | 0:01:28
so, we'll start to see some home-grown thunderstorms here, | 0:01:28 | 0:01:30
and then, later in the day, | 0:01:30 | 0:01:31
we could potentially start to drag some more thundery rain | 0:01:31 | 0:01:34
across from France, across the Channel, and northwards. | 0:01:34 | 0:01:37
It looks as if it will be across the southern half of the country, | 0:01:37 | 0:01:40
but there is some uncertainty | 0:01:40 | 0:01:42
as to how far north that thundery rain will travel. | 0:01:42 | 0:01:46
Some of the models do push it right the way up into northern Scotland. | 0:01:46 | 0:01:49
So, at this stage, there are warnings out. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
We will tweak those, of course, with time. | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
It does look as if we'll get off to a thundery start. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:55
Thundery night, | 0:01:55 | 0:01:56
some thundery weather around, still, on bank holiday Monday, | 0:01:56 | 0:01:59
a lot of heat and humidity, | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
a little bit fresher further northwards, | 0:02:01 | 0:02:02
but, of course, that could extend its influence further north. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
Come Tuesday, it should have moved out the way, | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
and then we're under the influence of Atlantic weather fronts. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
So, we've changed the wind direction. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:11
It does freshen up even further south and east by that stage - | 0:02:11 | 0:02:14
it will still be warm, in the sunshine, | 0:02:14 | 0:02:16
and there still will be some sunshine, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
because high-pressure follows that weather front on Tuesday, | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
and that high pressure's with us through the middle part of the week. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
It's keeping the weather fronts at bay, | 0:02:23 | 0:02:25
it's allowing the temperatures to rise and the sun shine again. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
Not the humidity that we've had this week, | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
but, nevertheless, some strong sunshine, | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
and feeling very pleasant | 0:02:32 | 0:02:34
if you are in that sunshine out and about. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
Of course, it's half term for many, | 0:02:36 | 0:02:38
so, some very usable whether | 0:02:38 | 0:02:39
through the course of Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, as well. | 0:02:39 | 0:02:43
So, the early part of the week is seeing that high-pressure | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
starting to take hold once again, | 0:02:45 | 0:02:48
keeping those low pressures at bay out in the Atlantic - | 0:02:48 | 0:02:50
and there's a little bit of a southerly breeze with it, | 0:02:50 | 0:02:52
so, we will see things warming up, | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
but it's definitely fresher than it has been. | 0:02:54 | 0:02:56
However, as we progress through the latter part of the week, | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
head towards next weekend, | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
we'll start to see that high-pressure | 0:03:00 | 0:03:01
just drifting a little bit further southwards, towards the continent - | 0:03:01 | 0:03:04
always keeping an influence across southern areas, | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
but allowing low pressures to bring in bands of windier weather, | 0:03:06 | 0:03:10
wetter weather, | 0:03:10 | 0:03:11
but probably not that much rain in southern and eastern areas. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:14
Just because that high-pressure is so close by, | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
it will mean that those weather fronts tend to weaken | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
as they progress further southwards and eastwards. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
Nevertheless, it does look more unsettled by that stage, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
by the end of next week, and it will start to feel fresher - | 0:03:23 | 0:03:26
but the detail for the weather for the weekend, | 0:03:26 | 0:03:28
there's more on the website. | 0:03:28 | 0:03:30 |
