Hello. There's a bit of a battle going on, | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
between milder air in the Atlantic and something colder further east. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:07
Over the next few days, | 0:00:07 | 0:00:09
it looks like it's the milder air | 0:00:09 | 0:00:10
that's going to win through. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:12
Shown here with the yellow colours, | 0:00:12 | 0:00:13
gradually extending their way across the UK. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:16
They don't hang around for very long | 0:00:16 | 0:00:18
because, through next week, these bluer colours - | 0:00:18 | 0:00:21
the colder air further east - | 0:00:21 | 0:00:22
start the push their way back westwards. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
More on that in just a moment. Back to the here and now. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
For many, Saturday was a sunny one. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
A few exceptions - we had more cloud around | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
across northern and central parts of England, | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
some showery rain for a time - that's started to fade. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:36
and then a different sort of day tomorrow. | 0:00:36 | 0:00:38
We have this warm front pushing its way towards the UK. | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
As its name implies, behind it is some milder air. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
But not at first tomorrow - a cold, frosty start. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
We hang onto the dry, bright weather | 0:00:47 | 0:00:48
for much of the day across eastern areas, | 0:00:48 | 0:00:50
but cloud will be increasing from the west all the time, | 0:00:50 | 0:00:53
and that will bring some outbreaks of rain | 0:00:53 | 0:00:55
into Northern Ireland, western Scotland, | 0:00:55 | 0:00:57
north-western England, the north of Wales and south-west England. | 0:00:57 | 0:01:00
Highs tomorrow, 7 to 11 Celsius - | 0:01:00 | 0:01:02
for some, feeling milder than it has done recently. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:05
Now, that front makes slow progress eastwards through tomorrow evening. | 0:01:05 | 0:01:08
So, eventually, all of us will see some outbreaks of rain. | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
Doesn't go very far on Monday, | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
and grinds to a halt across eastern areas. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:15
It will keep a lot of cloud across the country on Monday. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
There'll be some mist and fog and murky conditions | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
with further outbreaks of rain, | 0:01:20 | 0:01:22
which are likely to linger for a time | 0:01:22 | 0:01:23
across East Anglia and south-east England. | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
But a mild start to the week - highs of 11 or 12 Celsius, | 0:01:25 | 0:01:29
even across parts of Scotland. Much milder than recently. | 0:01:29 | 0:01:32
The best of any brighter weather will be further west. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
Now, these fronts are not going to go anywhere fast | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
as we go into Tuesday, | 0:01:37 | 0:01:38
cos we've got areas of high pressure on both sides. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:41
So, once again, it stalls on Tuesday. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:43
Still keeping a lot of cloud | 0:01:43 | 0:01:44
with some outbreaks of rain across England and Wales. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
Drier and brighter with the best of the sunshine | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
across Northern Ireland and Scotland. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:51
But temperatures starting to come down, | 0:01:51 | 0:01:52
particularly for eastern counties. | 0:01:52 | 0:01:55
Still just about holding on to something milder further west. | 0:01:55 | 0:01:59
We do start to see those easterly winds | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
starting to develop as we go through Wednesday. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:03
And you see this area of high pressure? | 0:02:03 | 0:02:05
That's going to keep things mainly dry and settled across the country. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:08
Any fronts will have fizzled out by that stage. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:11
So there'll be some cloud around on Wednesday, | 0:02:11 | 0:02:13
but generally a quiet day and, after a cold, frosty start, | 0:02:13 | 0:02:16
we'll see some spells of sunshine, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
but temperatures are going to struggle to recover - | 0:02:18 | 0:02:20
five to seven Celsius quite typically on Wednesday. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:23
So we are back into the cold air. | 0:02:23 | 0:02:26
As we go ahead into Thursday, | 0:02:26 | 0:02:27
again, much of the country dry with some sunshine. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:30
A cold, frosty start. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:31
This band of rain could just start to affect | 0:02:31 | 0:02:33
north-western parts of Scotland, | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
and maybe Northern Ireland later in the day on Thursday. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:38
But, again, it's this battle | 0:02:38 | 0:02:39
between the colder air further east | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
and something milder further west. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:43
And, certainly for the end of the week, | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
it looks like that colder air is going to win through. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
Still some discussion amongst the models | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
as to exactly where this area of high pressure across Scandinavia | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
is going to be, and just how cold it could get. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
But it certainly looks like daytime temperatures | 0:02:57 | 0:02:59
are not going to get much above six or seven Celsius | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
for the end of the week, and we're still dry and settled. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:05
And although milder air is never too far away, | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
it does look likely that this colder air, | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
with those easterly winds, | 0:03:09 | 0:03:11
are going to continue to affect the country. | 0:03:11 | 0:03:14
So what does that mean further ahead? | 0:03:14 | 0:03:16
Well, perhaps just milder for a time, | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
particularly for Scotland and Northern Ireland, | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
but we're going to hang on to those easterly winds for most, | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
and it will be turning much colder. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:24
That's all from me. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:25
Phil Avery will have the forecasts for you tomorrow. Bye-bye. | 0:03:25 | 0:03:29 |
