Good afternoon. I'm Leah with your Saturday afternoon Newsround. Don't | :00:00. | :00:08.
go anywhere, we've got a packed show coming up. We look ahead to one of | :00:09. | :00:12.
the most thrilling sporting events of the year. And the 102-year-old | :00:13. | :00:20.
man setting a world record. This is Newsround. | :00:21. | :00:23.
First, to Australia where thousands of people have been protesting | :00:24. | :00:28.
against a plan to kill sharks on the western coast. It's after seven | :00:29. | :00:31.
people died following shark attacks there in the past three years. The | :00:32. | :00:37.
Australian government say the cull is necessary to keep people safe, | :00:38. | :00:40.
but not everyone agrees that killing the sharks will cut the risk of | :00:41. | :00:48.
attacks. They are known for being predators | :00:49. | :00:56.
of the ocean, top of the underwater food chain, and neither the first | :00:57. | :00:59.
time ministry earlier, are hunted species. Any shark over three metres | :01:00. | :01:11.
can be killed. But it hasn't gone down well with everyone. Here in | :01:12. | :01:18.
Paris, thousands of protesters were out in defence of the creature. This | :01:19. | :01:23.
was another protest on the other side of the country in Melbourne. We | :01:24. | :01:31.
need to work with the science that is there to learn to live with these | :01:32. | :01:38.
creatures. Without the sharks, there will be no future for humanity, | :01:39. | :01:45.
because the balance ecosystem. Fishermen in western Australia are | :01:46. | :01:51.
now being paid to catch large sharks using hooks. Campaigners are worried | :01:52. | :01:56.
that smaller sharks and dolphins and turtles will be trapped by the | :01:57. | :02:02.
hooks. They think it would be better to use satellites to track the | :02:03. | :02:05.
sharks in the water. Politicians say they have a responsibility to | :02:06. | :02:10.
protect the people of western Australia from shark attacks. For | :02:11. | :02:16.
now, the row over the future of these sharks is set to continue. | :02:17. | :02:22.
Back here, the rain is still coming down hard in large parts of the UK. | :02:23. | :02:25.
We're being warned that high tides and gale force winds could bring | :02:26. | :02:29.
more severe flooding. There are five severe flood warnings in place which | :02:30. | :02:32.
means a serious risk to people's safety. Members of the military are | :02:33. | :02:35.
still on stand-by to help villages like this one in Somerset which has | :02:36. | :02:39.
been cut off by the floods. On the Welsh coast, people were preparing | :02:40. | :02:43.
for huge tides, but so far, it's not been as bad as they feared. The high | :02:44. | :02:49.
winds we are getting now missed the high tides, so there hasn't been the | :02:50. | :02:55.
problem there was before. High tide is back at eight oh 2pm. Earlier | :02:56. | :03:04.
this week, we went to meet Emily and Gemma. They live in a village in | :03:05. | :03:08.
Somerset that's been cut off by the floods - and they've been having to | :03:09. | :03:12.
go to school by boat! I am a Malay. I am jammer stop we have been cut | :03:13. | :03:17.
off by the flooding. Our village has been cut off from everyone else | :03:18. | :03:24.
instead New Year's Eve. We have to get through this water, which wasn't | :03:25. | :03:29.
here before Christmas. We don't know when the water will go away, but we | :03:30. | :03:33.
hope it soon or else we will having to get the boat. You can see much | :03:34. | :03:38.
more from Emily and Gemma on the Newsround website... You can also | :03:39. | :03:41.
watch the weirdest videos of the week on Strange, Stranger, | :03:42. | :03:45.
Strangest... And if you're a fan of sport, you'll love this - check out | :03:46. | :03:49.
our guide to the Six Nations. Because in just half an hour, this | :03:50. | :03:52.
year's tournament gets underway. The Six Nations kicks off with Italy and | :03:53. | :03:55.
Wales, with the rest to follow across the weekend.. But who will be | :03:56. | :03:59.
lifting the famous trophy this year? We asked England and Sale Sharks | :04:00. | :04:16.
star Mark Kwetto. England have a great chance of winning, they have | :04:17. | :04:21.
been runner-up in the previous two Six Nations. Oh and Farrell, the fly | :04:22. | :04:31.
half, his goal-kicking is probably the best in Europe. Wales are team | :04:32. | :04:38.
that always get up for the Six Nations. They have a massively | :04:39. | :04:49.
strong team. Leigh Halfpenny full-back, Alex Kaspar -- Alex | :04:50. | :04:59.
Cuthbert, those are the guys to look out for. Scotland are all was | :05:00. | :05:09.
competitive, but generally down the bottom part of the table, but if | :05:10. | :05:16.
England lose at the weekend to France, then obviously the second | :05:17. | :05:21.
week will be Scotland at Murrayfield and I think the Scots will be really | :05:22. | :05:26.
tight in that game. For me, it will be either Ireland or France you win | :05:27. | :05:35.
the Six Nations. Last up - to a record breaking cyclist. No, not | :05:36. | :05:37.
Bradley Wiggins, not Victoria Pendleton. But someone who could | :05:38. | :05:40.
easily be their great granddad. This is 102-year-old Robert Marchand from | :05:41. | :05:43.
France, who's beaten his own world record in a race for | :05:44. | :05:46.
over-100-year-olds. He notched up nearly 17 miles in an hour to win | :05:47. | :05:50.
the race. He did admit though, it started to get a little bit tough | :05:51. | :05:53.
towards the end. We think he's a legend! That's all from me, | :05:54. | :05:56.
Newsround's back tomorrow morning. | :05:57. | :06:01. |
