First, lots of you are getting involved with World Book Day today - | :00:28. | :00:30.
a celebration of books and reading that takes place today in over 100 | :00:31. | :00:33.
Ricky's at a school in Sale to see what's happening. | :00:34. | :00:45.
Good morning. What an exciting day. I am at a school in Manchester, | :00:46. | :00:51.
where there are hundreds of children dressed up as their favourite | :00:52. | :00:55.
characters from their favourite books. It is World Book Day, a day | :00:56. | :01:01.
to celebrate illustrators, writers and reading to do with the books. | :01:02. | :01:05.
These guys are dressed up as their favourite characters. They look | :01:06. | :01:08.
fantastic. There are more than 100 countries in the world with kids | :01:09. | :01:14.
dressing up to celebrate books. Joel, who are you? I am Harry | :01:15. | :01:22.
Potter. You're looking very fetching. Is it your favourite book? | :01:23. | :01:33.
Yes. I miss crunch bowl. Who chose the outfit? Me and my mum. I am from | :01:34. | :01:45.
Charles Dickens. I wanted to show you will. Look at will. Who do? | :01:46. | :01:54.
Grandpa 's great escape. I made this with my dad. I'm going to talk to | :01:55. | :02:02.
some teachers. They are dressed up. Mrs Daniels, come over here. You | :02:03. | :02:06.
must be excited to see everyone like this. We have had an amazing week, | :02:07. | :02:15.
we had David Webb signing books. It has been really good. There is a | :02:16. | :02:23.
dinosaur. Who are you? Ellie. I am from Jurassic world. Gangster | :02:24. | :02:29.
granny, come over here. This is one of my favourites. Will the kids take | :02:30. | :02:35.
the Mickey out of you today? I hope so! We will see these guys at | :02:36. | :02:45.
4:20pm. Thank you, Ricky. Loving all those guys dressed up. | :02:46. | :02:48.
Lots of you have already been in touch. | :02:49. | :02:50.
Hollie and Eden are Little Red Riding Hood and Clark Kent. | :02:51. | :02:52.
Elle from Lincoln is dressing up as Hetty Feather. | :02:53. | :02:55.
Harry from Nottingham is dressed up as Gideon from Hetty Feather. | :02:56. | :02:57.
And Maisie, Josh and Hollie from Devon in their brilliant | :02:58. | :03:00.
We're going book-tastic on Newsround today because aside from it being | :03:01. | :03:09.
World Book Day today, it's also the Blue Peter Book Awards. | :03:10. | :03:11.
Best Story Book went to The Nowehere Emporium | :03:12. | :03:15.
and The Epic Book of Epicness won Best Book with Facts. | :03:16. | :03:17.
And the two winning authors Ross MacKenzie and Adam | :03:18. | :03:19.
This is so exciting. How do you feel about getting this on? Delighted. I | :03:20. | :03:38.
can't quite believe it. Any award is nice but to have one voted for by | :03:39. | :03:44.
kids is amazing. And that is the special thing. The judges helped | :03:45. | :03:47.
whittle it down but it was ultimately children who gave you | :03:48. | :03:49.
dishonour. Does that make it more special? Absolutely. I've got kids | :03:50. | :03:55.
myself and I know they just tell the truth. They are honest about what | :03:56. | :03:59.
they like. The fact that they voted for it is just incredible. Such an | :04:00. | :04:05.
honour. Wrote it for the kids so for them to say, it is good, is the best | :04:06. | :04:12.
pat on the back. What is your best epic fact? I think I like the | :04:13. | :04:19.
library book that was 288 years overdue. I love that. A big fine? It | :04:20. | :04:30.
would have been about ?10,000. Ross, for you, what makes a good story and | :04:31. | :04:37.
keeps children reading? For a kids book, it is important to remember | :04:38. | :04:41.
what it felt like to be that age, to be 80 years old and remember how the | :04:42. | :04:47.
world was an unfair place ruled by adults. To really channel that inner | :04:48. | :04:51.
child and if you can do that, you're halfway to writing a good book for | :04:52. | :04:59.
kids. What is the book about? It is about a magic shop, an enchanted | :05:00. | :05:03.
shop, which can appear anywhere at any time. If you walk through the | :05:04. | :05:08.
shop, the red curtain at the back of the shop, you find a labyrinth of | :05:09. | :05:13.
wonders, where anything can happen. And your book is just full of facts. | :05:14. | :05:19.
Kids love that type of thing. Yes, I tried to fill it with as many | :05:20. | :05:23.
bizarre and random facts as possible. Loads of great visuals and | :05:24. | :05:29.
cartoons. Which characters would you like to dress up as? I chose | :05:30. | :05:38.
Professor brainstorm. I was the other father from correlating. | :05:39. | :05:44.
Everyone can get into World Book Day. Thank you for joining us. | :05:45. | :05:46.
Remember, we'd love to see pictures of you in your | :05:47. | :05:48.
Head online and let us know what you're doing to celebrate. | :05:49. | :05:52.
You can keep up to date with all of the rest of the day's | :05:53. | :05:56.
That's all from me, Newsround's back today at 4:20pm. | :05:57. | :06:00. |
