Hello, Ayshah here with the last Newsround update today.

0:00:020:00:05

Stay tuned for all of this.

0:00:050:00:07

Shock for tennis fans as Djokovic crashes out of Wimbledon.

0:00:080:00:10

THEY CHANT IN ICELANDIC

0:00:130:00:16

Iceland fans tell us why they think they can go all the way.

0:00:160:00:18

This week marks 100 years since the Battle of the Somme,

0:00:270:00:30

one of the deadliest events of the First World War.

0:00:300:00:33

Martin's been to France to find out more.

0:00:330:00:35

I'm here to meet some kids from all over the UK who have

0:00:360:00:39

travelled here to France to go on the same journey

0:00:390:00:41

the soldiers did 100 years ago.

0:00:410:00:44

One of them is Laurie.

0:00:440:00:46

I'm trying to learn about my great-great-uncle.

0:00:470:00:49

I already know that his name is Joshua Stevens and

0:00:500:00:52

he came here to fight.

0:00:520:00:53

That's all I know at the moment.

0:00:540:00:55

So, Simon, what can you tell us about Laurie's great-great-uncle?

0:00:560:00:58

We've been able to find out that Joshua Stevens was one of eight

0:00:580:01:01

children, he enlisted in the spring of 1916 into the 8th Battalion

0:01:020:01:04

of the Worcestershire Regiment.

0:01:040:01:07

He would have headed out to France, where he arrived in time to take

0:01:070:01:09

part in the Battle of the Somme.

0:01:090:01:11

He would have spent a lot of the winter in very uncomfortable,

0:01:120:01:13

unpleasant conditions, experiencing all of the worst

0:01:130:01:16

that the weather and the Germans could throw at him.

0:01:160:01:19

Laurie, do you think you could handle those conditions?

0:01:200:01:22

No, I don't think I could actually.

0:01:220:01:23

It sounds horrible.

0:01:240:01:26

But like millions of soldiers fighting on the Somme

0:01:260:01:28

during the First World War, Laurie's great-great-uncle

0:01:290:01:31

didn't make it home.

0:01:310:01:33

He died whilst fighting here on the 24th of

0:01:340:01:35

April 1917, aged 20.

0:01:360:01:39

I'm proud of what my great-great-uncle did.

0:01:390:01:42

He was a very brave person.

0:01:420:01:44

This huge building behind me is the Thiepval

0:01:450:01:46

memorial to the missing.

0:01:460:01:49

For the soldiers who died fighting for the British

0:01:490:01:52

side during World War I, but were never found.

0:01:520:01:55

It's here that Laurie has a special task.

0:01:550:01:59

Joshua Stevens is here on one of the panels and I'm

0:01:590:02:02

going to show my respect by the placing this cross.

0:02:020:02:06

Joshua Stevens is one of more than 72,000 soldiers names carved

0:02:070:02:11

into the walls here.

0:02:110:02:13

All around the world there are memorials like Thiepval

0:02:130:02:15

to ensure that those who died during the war are never forgotten.

0:02:150:02:21

Go online for everything you need to know about the

0:02:220:02:23

Battle of the Somme, including the story of a 12-year-old boy who ran

0:02:230:02:27

off to fight in the war.

0:02:270:02:29

It's an incredible watch.

0:02:290:02:31

Sport now and the biggest shock of the Wimbledon tournament so far.

0:02:330:02:35

World number one Novak Djokovic is out.

0:02:360:02:37

He was beaten by American Sam Querrey in four sets.

0:02:380:02:41

Even though Djokovic seemed pretty unhappy with his performance,

0:02:410:02:45

he still praised his opponent.

0:02:450:02:46

Congratulations to Sam.

0:02:480:02:49

He played a terrific match.

0:02:500:02:52

He serves very well, as he usually does, and I think that

0:02:520:02:56

part of his game was brutal today.

0:02:560:03:00

He made a lot of free points with the first serve and just

0:03:000:03:03

well done, you know.

0:03:030:03:06

He overpowered me.

0:03:060:03:08

And the women's world number one Serena Williams has

0:03:100:03:12

just finished her match against Germany's Annika Beck.

0:03:120:03:16

After a close-call match in the previous round she's back

0:03:160:03:18

on form winning in straight sets.

0:03:190:03:22

It wasn't just the tennis that was exciting yesterday,

0:03:230:03:25

Germany knocked out Italy on penalties at the

0:03:260:03:27

European Championships.

0:03:280:03:30

Here's a quick look at what happened.

0:03:300:03:32

It was a tight first half, with neither side having much

0:03:320:03:34

of a chance in front of goal.

0:03:350:03:37

But in the 65th minute, Mesut Ozil put Germany ahead

0:03:370:03:39

with this slick passing move.

0:03:400:03:44

But a moment of madness from defender Jerome Boateng,

0:03:440:03:46

with a handball in the box, and Italy had the chance

0:03:470:03:49

to level, and they did.

0:03:490:03:52

The match went into extra time, but with nothing between them,

0:03:520:03:56

it went to penalties.

0:03:560:04:00

Both sides struggled to handle the pressure.

0:04:000:04:03

Until at last, in sudden death, Germany finally clinched it.

0:04:030:04:08

They've still never lost a shoot-out since the 1976 final

0:04:090:04:12

of this competition, when they lost to Czechoslovakia

0:04:120:04:14

0:04:150:04:17

Well, Germany will face either France or Iceland in the semifinals,

0:04:190:04:22

with their quarterfinal match kicking off later today.

0:04:220:04:25

Iceland, who beat England in the last round,

0:04:260:04:27

are the lowest-ranked side in the tournament.

0:04:280:04:30

So why have they done so well and how will they do against France?

0:04:300:04:34

We've been asking some Icelandic fans.

0:04:340:04:36

I think they are doing well, because a lot of Icelanders

0:04:380:04:41

are at the stadium rooting for them and I think they get a lot

0:04:410:04:44

of support from them.

0:04:450:04:46

Why do you think Iceland is doing so well in this tournament?

0:04:470:04:49

Because the other sides aren't!

0:04:490:04:52

I think that Iceland will definitely win.

0:04:530:04:56

THEY SING IN ICELANDIC

0:04:560:04:59

I think it will be a tie at 1-1 and there will be a penalty

0:05:000:05:02

shoot-out and Iceland will win.

0:05:030:05:05

So, you think they will win?

0:05:060:05:07

Yes.

0:05:070:05:09

I think they will have this much goals.

0:05:090:05:12

THEY CHANT IN ICELANDIC

0:05:120:05:14

We are going to win 1-0.

0:05:150:05:17

You're sure?

0:05:180:05:19

Yes.

0:05:190:05:20

THEY CHANT IN ICELANDIC

0:05:200:05:28

Finally, take a look at one of the newest,

0:05:280:05:30

tallest Ferris wheels

0:05:300:05:31

in the world.

0:05:310:05:32

It's just opened in Japan and is 123 metres tall.

0:05:330:05:36

It has 72 pods called gondolas and takes 18 minutes to go round.

0:05:360:05:40

It also has a glass bottom for the brave ones

0:05:410:05:42

who want to look down.

0:05:420:05:44

That's all from me.
