Hi, I'm Ricky you're live with Newsround this | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
Saturday afternoon. | 0:00:17 | 0:00:18
Keep watching for all of this. | 0:00:18 | 0:00:19
The first glimpse of Emily Blunt as the new Mary Poppins. | 0:00:19 | 0:00:22
The daredevils taking up icebiking. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:23
And spring is in the air in Japan. | 0:00:23 | 0:00:28
First to the story of a boy who, like thousands of children | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
from Syria, has travelled to a new country in | 0:00:33 | 0:00:35
Europe to escape war. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:38
Jenny went to Sweden to catch up with him to see | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
what life is like now. | 0:00:41 | 0:00:43
Meet Kava. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:46
He is ten years old and likes football, music and bowling. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
And, like millions of kids across Sweden, he's off to school. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:54
But 18 months ago, Kava's life was very different. | 0:00:54 | 0:01:00
Kava and his family were forced to leave Syria because of a war that | 0:01:00 | 0:01:04
has been going on there since 2011. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:05
Thousands of people have died and around 4 million people, | 0:01:05 | 0:01:08
like Kava, have had to leave the country to get away | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
from the fighting. | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
Many people have made long journeys to countries in Europe | 0:01:13 | 0:01:17
because they think they will be able to have a better life there. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:23
TRANSLATION: We left when it was evening and we were very | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
scared on the road. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
It was completely dark. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:33
Kava and his family travelled from Syria to Turkey and then got | 0:01:33 | 0:01:37
on a boat to make a dangerous journey across the sea to a Greek | 0:01:37 | 0:01:41
island called Lesbos. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:45
TRANSLATION: We eventually took a small boat across the sea to Europe. | 0:01:45 | 0:01:48
And we were very terrified. | 0:01:48 | 0:01:52
Newsround first met Kava in 2015, shortly after he had | 0:01:52 | 0:01:56
arrived from Lesbos. | 0:01:56 | 0:02:00
TRANSLATION: I want to see my brother who lives in Sweden. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
He is already there and I want to join him. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:05
I miss him. | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
And he got his wish. | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
After getting a ferry to mainland Greece, Kava's family | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
travelled overland by bus all the way to Sweden. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:17
Kava and his family have been living in this very snowy town | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
for more than a year now. | 0:02:20 | 0:02:22
And Kava has even started going to his local school. | 0:02:22 | 0:02:25
So I have come to find out what his life is like now. | 0:02:25 | 0:02:29
TRANSLATION: I like the school. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:30
The school is good. | 0:02:30 | 0:02:32
There is no violence here. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:33
It is good here. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
I like Sweden. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:38
I like mathematics and doing my lessons. | 0:02:38 | 0:02:43
And writing on a computer, laptop or an iPad. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:45
I want to write. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:50
Learning Swedish was difficult at first but later it | 0:02:50 | 0:02:52
became easier, very easy. | 0:02:52 | 0:02:56
I have friends. | 0:02:56 | 0:02:58
They are very kind. | 0:02:58 | 0:02:59
They are good. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:04
My friends and I chase each other, run around and we slide our | 0:03:04 | 0:03:07
mattresses on the snow. | 0:03:07 | 0:03:11
Is there anything you miss about life with your friends in Syria? | 0:03:11 | 0:03:15
TRANSLATION: My friends are not in Syria any more. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:18
They went to Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
They are not in Syria. | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
I would like to meet them again. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:25
CHEERING | 0:03:25 | 0:03:29
Although Kava is happy to be settled | 0:03:29 | 0:03:32
with his family here in Sweden, I want to find out how | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
he feels about having to leave his home in Syria. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:39
TRANSLATION: In our old home, we used to play. | 0:03:39 | 0:03:47
We had a laptop, we had a large house with a large garden | 0:03:47 | 0:03:51
where we used to play. | 0:03:51 | 0:03:54
But I don't remember much else. | 0:03:54 | 0:03:57
TRANSLATION: When the war broke out, everybody went | 0:03:57 | 0:03:59
in different directions. | 0:03:59 | 0:04:03
Some left their mothers, others their fathers or their brothers. | 0:04:03 | 0:04:05
Not many people stay together. | 0:04:05 | 0:04:09
TRANSLATION: We stuck together and held each other closely so none | 0:04:09 | 0:04:12
of us would be left behind. | 0:04:12 | 0:04:14
That is why we remained holding each other so strongly. | 0:04:14 | 0:04:16
What are your hopes for the future? | 0:04:16 | 0:04:20
TRANSLATION: Now I am with my brother, sister | 0:04:20 | 0:04:22
and parents here together. | 0:04:22 | 0:04:23
We are very happy. | 0:04:23 | 0:04:25
It is nice here. | 0:04:25 | 0:04:27
I wish to continue going to school and study and become | 0:04:27 | 0:04:31
something one day. | 0:04:31 | 0:04:34
For more about what's happening in Syria, go online | 0:04:34 | 0:04:39
for Newsround's special guide. | 0:04:39 | 0:04:42
Now, cycling on ice - it's not normally a good idea, | 0:04:42 | 0:04:45
but ice biking is becoming a booming sport all over the world. | 0:04:45 | 0:04:48
Especially in Scandanavia. | 0:04:48 | 0:04:49
Now it's arrived in the UK. | 0:04:49 | 0:04:52
The back wheels on an ice bike are replaced with blades and the aim | 0:04:52 | 0:04:55
is to get round the course as quick as you can! | 0:04:55 | 0:05:01
Next, do you recognise this lady? | 0:05:01 | 0:05:06
Yes, it's the flying nanny Mary Poppins, played by Julie Andrew | 0:05:06 | 0:05:09
more than 50 years ago. | 0:05:09 | 0:05:10
Now Disney has released the first photo of the new-look Mary | 0:05:10 | 0:05:13
set to be recreated by Emily Blunt. | 0:05:13 | 0:05:17
The British actress will be dressing in her navy coat and picking | 0:05:17 | 0:05:20
up her patterned carpet bag for the sequel, which is due to be | 0:05:20 | 0:05:23
released on Christmas Day next year. | 0:05:23 | 0:05:24
Now take a look at these pictures from Japan where | 0:05:24 | 0:05:27
spring is in the air. | 0:05:27 | 0:05:28
Cherry flowers are in full bloom on a type of tree that blossoms | 0:05:28 | 0:05:31
in early spring in Western Japan. | 0:05:31 | 0:05:33
Residents of this town planted around 1,000 of these trees over | 0:05:33 | 0:05:35
the last 30 years to attract lots of tourists. | 0:05:35 | 0:05:38
Don't they look pretty! | 0:05:38 | 0:05:41
And go online for loads more stories including the twins helping Nasa's | 0:05:41 | 0:05:44
research into the affects of space travel on the body. | 0:05:44 | 0:05:47
And the secrets of how elephants sleep. | 0:05:47 | 0:05:51
That's all from me, Newsround's back just before ten tomorrow morning. | 0:05:51 | 0:05:54
See you then. | 0:05:54 | 0:05:55
Bye. | 0:05:55 | 0:06:01 |
