Hi, everyone, I'm Ricky with your Monday morning Newsround. | 0:00:10 | 0:00:14
First, there's a massive space showdown happening in less than 24 | 0:00:14 | 0:00:17
hours between a small spacecraft and one gassy giant. | 0:00:17 | 0:00:22
Here's Naz. | 0:00:22 | 0:00:24
Jupiter, the big bad boy of our solar system. | 0:00:24 | 0:00:29
It is made entirely from gas and shoots out deadly | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
amounts of radiation. | 0:00:31 | 0:00:33
It's so big it can hold 1,400 Earths. | 0:00:33 | 0:00:38
And, oh, did we mention the huge storm that's been raging | 0:00:38 | 0:00:41
for hundreds of years? | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
If you wanted to pick, aside from the Sun, the scariest | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
environment we know of to send a spacecraft to, Jupiter | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
would be the place to go. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
Not somewhere you'd want to visit really. | 0:00:52 | 0:00:54
Unless you're a spacecraft called Juno. | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
Lift-off! | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
It blasted off to the gas giant way back in 2011. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:02
It's about the size of a car, so it's tiny compared to Jupiter. | 0:01:02 | 0:01:07
It's travelled 1.7 billion miles to get there. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:11
So why bother? | 0:01:11 | 0:01:13
Well, Juno's mission is to find out how big planets like | 0:01:13 | 0:01:16
Jupiter are formed. | 0:01:16 | 0:01:19
It will look down into Jupiter and measure things like temperature | 0:01:19 | 0:01:23
and water, as well as map the powerful magnetic field | 0:01:23 | 0:01:25
which surrounds it. | 0:01:25 | 0:01:27
The radiation means it's not going to be an easy task. | 0:01:27 | 0:01:30
But scientists have built the spacecraft | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
with protective armour. | 0:01:32 | 0:01:33
It's taken five years to reach Jupiter but the real work for Juno | 0:01:33 | 0:01:37
is just about to start. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:41
Next, there's been a big increase in people reporting racism | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
to the police over the past week. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
But what would you do if you saw it happening? | 0:01:47 | 0:01:50
Well, Hayley's been asking that very question. | 0:01:50 | 0:01:53
I'm going to give you the chance to ask a question that you might | 0:01:53 | 0:01:56
have in your head about racism, about diversity, | 0:01:56 | 0:02:00
about being different. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:08
Alex Holmes is a leading anti-bullying campaigner. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
He's going round schools asking kids to talk about racism and teaching | 0:02:10 | 0:02:13
them the best way to deal with it if they ever come across it. | 0:02:13 | 0:02:16
Since the EU referendum, where immigration was a big issue, | 0:02:16 | 0:02:18
lots of people have reported an increase in racist attacks. | 0:02:18 | 0:02:25
Comments on social media, attacks in public and in school | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
playgrounds, graffiti and abusive cards being posted | 0:02:28 | 0:02:29
through letter boxes. | 0:02:29 | 0:02:31
Some Remain voters felt a line was crossed during the campaign | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
which allowed people to feel that they can say racist things | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
and get away with it. | 0:02:36 | 0:02:40
But those in the Leave campaign say that's not true | 0:02:40 | 0:02:43
and that racist attacks have nothing to do with what they have said. | 0:02:43 | 0:02:47
The police say there have been many more cases of racism reported. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:50
Even the Prime Minister is talking about it. | 0:02:50 | 0:02:52
We must be very clear about our commitment to tolerance, | 0:02:52 | 0:02:54
to diversity and our complete intolerance of racism and hateful | 0:02:54 | 0:02:57
hate crimes that we've seen in recent days. | 0:02:57 | 0:03:05
Picture this, you're in class, or in the toilet at break time | 0:03:05 | 0:03:10
and you notice there is some graffiti. | 0:03:10 | 0:03:12
It says, send them home, immigrants. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:13
How does this make you feel? | 0:03:13 | 0:03:15
What would you do? | 0:03:15 | 0:03:16
Just not a nice thing to put up. | 0:03:16 | 0:03:18
I think you have to report it because it's a big deal. | 0:03:18 | 0:03:20
Immigration is a big topic right now and I think immigrants feel really | 0:03:20 | 0:03:24
targeted and we should do something about it. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:28
In the toilets, go and speak to them to paint over | 0:03:28 | 0:03:38
Scribble over it and write leave them alone. | 0:03:42 | 0:03:44
It is thought that you would feel more down if you fell down already | 0:03:44 | 0:03:48
full that what you see somebody being targeted by racism? | 0:03:48 | 0:03:50
It's really important that you say something. | 0:03:50 | 0:03:52
Not necessarily to the person that's doing it about you go and tell | 0:03:52 | 0:03:55
an adult or someone, bus driver, teacher, | 0:03:55 | 0:03:57
and they can help sort the problem. | 0:03:57 | 0:03:58
What about if it's you yourself? | 0:03:58 | 0:04:00
How do you deal with that? | 0:04:00 | 0:04:01
If you're on the receiving end of racism that can be really | 0:04:01 | 0:04:04
upsetting and make you angry. | 0:04:04 | 0:04:05
Don't suffer in silence, don't bottle it up, tell someone | 0:04:05 | 0:04:07
about what's happening because it's not okay. | 0:04:07 | 0:04:09
about what's happening because it's not OK. | 0:04:09 | 0:04:11
It's not acceptable for the people want to help you sort it out. | 0:04:11 | 0:04:14
So we've had some fun here today but also what have you learned? | 0:04:14 | 0:04:17
I've learned that it's not wrong to be who you are | 0:04:17 | 0:04:20
and different from other people. | 0:04:20 | 0:04:21
And be from a different race because you can be unique. | 0:04:21 | 0:04:24
Today I've learned that since we left the EU, | 0:04:24 | 0:04:26
more people have been arguing. | 0:04:26 | 0:04:27
But I don't think it's time to argue. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:33
I think we need to stay close as a country. | 0:04:33 | 0:04:35
Racism is a big thing. | 0:04:35 | 0:04:36
You can't accept it. | 0:04:36 | 0:04:37
I feel like it's not a time to be divided. | 0:04:37 | 0:04:40
It's more a time to unite despite our struggles | 0:04:40 | 0:04:42
and become stronger. | 0:04:42 | 0:04:46
That's all from me. | 0:04:46 | 0:04:47
Newsround's back right here in about half an hour when I'll | 0:04:47 | 0:04:50
be speaking to British Formula One driver Jolyon Palmer. | 0:04:50 | 0:04:52
See you then. | 0:04:52 | 0:04:54 |
