Hi, I'm Martin with a very special edition of Newsround. | :00:12. | :00:14.
First up to the incredible story of one 14 year old girls journey | :00:15. | :00:17.
I'm in Kent in south-east England. Over there is France and as you can | :00:18. | :00:31.
see, there are fairies bringing people back and forth across the | :00:32. | :00:36.
endless -- English Channel. This is also the point where many migrants | :00:37. | :00:41.
reach the UK. Some of them are children. Last year, more than 3000 | :00:42. | :00:46.
children arrived in the UK alone. I wanted to find out what it was like | :00:47. | :00:50.
to make that journey and to start a new life in the UK. I met with | :00:51. | :00:54.
grief. She was 14 which you left her home in Eritrea in Africa and | :00:55. | :01:00.
travelled for more than six months to reach the UK. To protect her, we | :01:01. | :01:07.
have used an animation and changed her voice. | :01:08. | :01:11.
My home in Eritrea is in a small village. | :01:12. | :01:13.
I've got six brothers and two sisters. | :01:14. | :01:15.
From my house, I could see mountains and fields. | :01:16. | :01:17.
There was no water or no school there so I had to walk two | :01:18. | :01:20.
When I wasn't at school, I helped my mum on the farm. | :01:21. | :01:24.
I would get the water and I would chop the wood. | :01:25. | :01:27.
He left five years ago and we don't know where he is. | :01:28. | :01:31.
If you are 14, you have to get married. | :01:32. | :01:39.
I said I wanted to study but they said I had to marry. | :01:40. | :01:42.
I didn't know the boy who I was supposed to marry. | :01:43. | :01:47.
It was about four o'clock when I left my home. | :01:48. | :02:01.
I couldn't say goodbye to my family because I knew my mum would cry. | :02:02. | :02:11.
We walked for two days to leave Ethiopia. | :02:12. | :02:12.
We were nervous because there was lots of hyenas all around us. | :02:13. | :02:19.
When we got to the border, there were military. | :02:20. | :02:32.
If they caught us, they would put us in prison. | :02:33. | :02:40.
We walked for three weeks to get from Ethiopia to Sudan. | :02:41. | :02:44.
Most of the people with me died on that walk because they | :02:45. | :02:51.
When I got to Sudan, I got taken to a house. | :02:52. | :02:56.
It was small and there were many people there. | :02:57. | :02:59.
The people from that country hated us because we were Christians. | :03:00. | :03:03.
If you went outside, then they took you and hurt you. | :03:04. | :03:09.
There were many people, more than 250 in the lorry. | :03:10. | :03:19.
I was inside but there was nowhere to sit, so I had to stand. | :03:20. | :03:24.
We were not allowed to get out of the lorry, even | :03:25. | :03:27.
I was in the lorry for three weeks, then I arrived at a camp in Libya. | :03:28. | :03:36.
If we wanted anything, we had to sign with our hands, | :03:37. | :03:40.
because if you were caught talking, the people traffickers | :03:41. | :03:48.
We nearly died at one point because the water got into the boat. | :03:49. | :04:04.
When we arrived in Italy, we didn't have anywhere to go. | :04:05. | :04:07.
Then I got on a train and went to France and to a camp. | :04:08. | :04:17.
Every night, we tried to climb onto a lorry to get | :04:18. | :04:20.
to England and every night, the police took us back. | :04:21. | :04:22.
We tried many, many times, then one night, I managed to get | :04:23. | :04:25.
When I first saw England, I was taken by police. | :04:26. | :04:32.
They asked us many questions, but then I got sent to a foster | :04:33. | :04:37.
I miss my mum and my family but I don't miss Eritrea. | :04:38. | :04:46.
I don't know the language or culture here. | :04:47. | :04:51.
I like that I go to school and I like to study. | :04:52. | :04:55.
To find out more about children like Ruth, go online | :04:56. | :05:02.
and there's also advice if you are upset by anything in the news. | :05:03. | :05:08.
Just time for a quick sports update now and France have beaten World | :05:09. | :05:14.
Champions Germany in the semi-final of the European Championships. | :05:15. | :05:19.
Antoine Griezmann was the hero for France, converting a penalty | :05:20. | :05:22.
just before half time, before settling it for the French | :05:23. | :05:24.
France will now play Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal | :05:25. | :05:29.
In tennis, Andy Murray is preparing to play his seventh | :05:30. | :05:38.
Murray faces Czech player Tomas Berdych. | :05:39. | :05:45.
Although he's beaten him in their last four meetings Murray | :05:46. | :05:47.
says he's not taking anything for granted. | :05:48. | :05:49.
If he wins he'll play for the title in the final on Sunday. | :05:50. | :05:52.
That's all from me, Newsround's back this afternoon at 4.20. | :05:53. | :05:57. |
