Good afternoon. I'm Hayley.

0:00:020:00:04

It's Thursday and here's what's coming up on Newsround:

0:00:040:00:09

The mystery of the England team cuddly toy.

0:00:090:00:12

And find out why Ed Sheeran is being taken to court

0:00:120:00:15

in the United States.

0:00:150:00:17

Former tennis world number one Maria Sharapova has been banned

0:00:250:00:28

from playing in any major tennis competitions for two years

0:00:280:00:30

because she used a drug that was banned for sports stars.

0:00:320:00:36

I've been looking into this story and finding out what it means

0:00:360:00:39

for the tennis star.

0:00:390:00:43

She is a five-time Grand Slam champion and one of the most

0:00:440:00:47

famous female tennis stars of her generation, but in January,

0:00:470:00:49

she failed a drugs test at the Australian Open.

0:00:490:00:52

Some athletes take drugs to help them do better in their sport,

0:00:520:00:56

but authorities have banned many of these because people

0:00:560:00:59

think it's cheating.

0:00:590:01:01

Athletes are tested regularly and if they are caught

0:01:010:01:05

using any of the banned drugs then they can be stopped

0:01:050:01:07

from playing in competitions.

0:01:070:01:10

In January, the rules changed and the medicine that

0:01:100:01:13

Maria Sharapova had been taking for ten years was added to a list

0:01:130:01:16

of drugs that sports stars were not allowed to take anymore.

0:01:160:01:20

Sharapova says she didn't know this and she also didn't tell anyone

0:01:200:01:24

she was using the drug because she says she knew it

0:01:240:01:27

under a different name.

0:01:270:01:30

Even though she says she broke the rules unintentionally,

0:01:300:01:33

Maria still apologised.

0:01:330:01:37

I did fail the test and I take full possibility for it.

0:01:370:01:43

Sharapova is now 29 which means she will be 31 when her

0:01:430:01:46

ban is lifted.

0:01:460:01:47

So how will this ban affect her sporting career?

0:01:470:01:51

Having not played any competitive tennis for two years,

0:01:510:01:54

it would be very hard for her to try and find the level again

0:01:540:01:57

that she would need to beat the other very best

0:01:570:02:00

players in the world.

0:02:000:02:03

Maria Sharapova says she will appeal the court's decision

0:02:030:02:05

as she believes her ban is unfair.

0:02:050:02:07

But for now, the next time we see the Olympic medallist could be

0:02:070:02:10

in the Paris Open in 2018.

0:02:100:02:17

Next I'm about to play you two songs.

0:02:170:02:27

OK, next song.

0:02:290:02:38

The first one is called Photograph and it was sung by World famous

0:02:400:02:43

pop star Ed Sheeran.

0:02:430:02:44

The second song is called Amazing and it was performed by this

0:02:440:02:47

guy Matt Cardle who won the X-Factor in 2010.

0:02:470:02:52

However, Ed is in a little bit of trouble because the people

0:02:520:02:58

who wrote Matt Cardle's song say he copied their music

0:02:580:03:00

and are suing him for ?13 million.

0:03:000:03:03

There's just one day to go until Euro 2016 kicks off in France!

0:03:030:03:06

24 countries will be competing to win the championships

0:03:060:03:16

and here's some of the key players to look out for.

0:03:160:03:18

Could it be his tournament?

0:04:320:04:33

The mystery of England team cuddly toy.

0:04:360:04:39

Defender Chris Smalling has been seen a number of times this week

0:04:390:04:42

carrying the toy lion.

0:04:420:04:47

When he was asked about it he said that the team are sharing the lion

0:04:470:04:51

and that all would become clear over the next few weeks.

0:04:510:04:54

Mysterious!

0:04:540:04:55

That's all from me.

0:04:550:04:56

Newsround's back here tomorrow with Martin.
