Cyclist Sarah Storey becomes Britain's most successful

:00:11.:00:11.

Hi, I'm Ayshah and this is Newsround.

:00:12.:00:26.

Let's go straight to Rio, where cyclist Dame Sarah Storey has

:00:27.:00:28.

Paralympics GB have won five golds on day one of the games,

:00:29.:00:36.

putting us second in the medal table behind China.

:00:37.:00:38.

Martin sent us this round-up from Brazil.

:00:39.:00:43.

Well, day one of the Paralympic Games

:00:44.:00:45.

here in Rio was jam packed with record breaking performances

:00:46.:00:47.

and the only word that's on everyone's lips...is gold.

:00:48.:00:52.

Paralympics GB won five gold medals, three of those came

:00:53.:00:55.

from that stadium behind me. The velodrome.

:00:56.:01:00.

Dame Sarah Storey became Great Britain's most

:01:01.:01:02.

successful female Paralympian by winning her 12th gold medal

:01:03.:01:04.

The 38-year-old cyclist beat fellow Brit Crystal Lane,

:01:05.:01:10.

who took silver, in the C5 3,000m individual pursuit.

:01:11.:01:18.

To go so much quicker than I did in London is something I'm

:01:19.:01:21.

I was more consistent through the middle kilometre this

:01:22.:01:25.

morning than I was in London. More controlled.

:01:26.:01:27.

I didn't go out so controlled, a bit too quick.

:01:28.:01:31.

Earlier, Megan Giglia also won gold with a stunning

:01:32.:01:33.

Britain's third cycling gold went to Steve Bate,

:01:34.:01:42.

who has a visual impairment, and his pilot Adam Duggleby in the B

:01:43.:01:45.

And the success continued over in the aquatics centre.

:01:46.:01:53.

COMMENTATOR: Here comes Ollie Hynd to take gold for GB!

:01:54.:01:56.

Ollie Hynd set a new world record to win the s8 400m freestyle final,

:01:57.:01:59.

improving on the silver he won four years ago in London.

:02:00.:02:11.

I am delighted. I'm so happy. I've got to be happy with a world record.

:02:12.:02:22.

I worked so hard for it. I'm happy at all came together.

:02:23.:02:23.

Bethany firth defended her s14 100m backstroke

:02:24.:02:27.

title, breaking her own world record for the second time in just one day.

:02:28.:02:30.

So there you go - not a bad first day of the Paralympics, hey!

:02:31.:02:33.

Well, it WAS a bad day for American tennis star Serena Williams -

:02:34.:02:42.

she's been knocked out in the semi finals of the US Open.

:02:43.:02:45.

She was beaten by Karolina Pliskova from the Czech Republic.

:02:46.:02:48.

It means that Serena loses her world number one spot,

:02:49.:02:50.

and is now second behind Angelique Kerber.

:02:51.:02:56.

This is the Nasa Osiris-Rex spacecraft blasting off

:02:57.:02:58.

from Florida in the US, on a seven-year round trip to bring

:02:59.:03:01.

back some rock from an asteroid - so scientists can study it.

:03:02.:03:05.

But how on Earth, well, in space, is it going to do it?

:03:06.:03:12.

After launching, the spacecraft will orbit the sun for a whole year,

:03:13.:03:15.

before making its move towards Bennu.

:03:16.:03:17.

It will use mini rockets to get it nearer to the asteroid,

:03:18.:03:20.

And then, its moment will finally come.

:03:21.:03:26.

A robotic arm from the spacecraft will reach out and make contact

:03:27.:03:29.

That should be enough time to blast the asteroid with gas,

:03:30.:03:36.

grab some rock, up to the size of two bags of sugar.

:03:37.:03:40.

They'll only have three chances to do it, though.

:03:41.:03:44.

Then, hopefully, job will be done and Osiris-Rex will be

:03:45.:03:47.

It will be another very long journey back,

:03:48.:03:52.

not due to arrive on Earth until 2023. So, bon voyage!

:03:53.:04:03.

At Newsround online, we've been asking about how

:04:04.:04:05.

It's after a school in Kent hit the headlines this week for sending

:04:06.:04:09.

more than 50 pupils home because they weren't wearing

:04:10.:04:11.

Students in Manchester have been telling us what they think.

:04:12.:04:14.

It's not fair because the child should get a warning.

:04:15.:04:20.

People may not be able to afford everything.

:04:21.:04:24.

There are reasons behind it, they're not just coming into school

:04:25.:04:27.

because they want to show off their new trainers.

:04:28.:04:29.

Some people might not be able to afford it or they've lost it

:04:30.:04:32.

Some people, when they are in uniform, they behave

:04:33.:04:36.

how they are supposed to but when they wear their clothes,

:04:37.:04:38.

it's like, "Oh, I can do what I like."

:04:39.:04:44.

Here's what some of you have been saying online.

:04:45.:04:46.

Sami says "Rules are rules but I totally disagree

:04:47.:04:50.

Lilly's school is strict - they're not allowed yellow stitching

:04:51.:04:54.

But Anita doesn't have a uniform - she can wear what she wants!

:04:55.:05:02.

Also at Newsround online - you can watch 11-year-old animation

:05:03.:05:05.

super-fan James quiz the director of new movie

:05:06.:05:07.

Here's a snippet from the interview.

:05:08.:05:20.

How much of your own life is behind Kubo's story? He's basically me.

:05:21.:05:31.

Here's an artist, a storyteller, an animator, when you think about how

:05:32.:05:35.

he brings origami to life. It is like how I bring a puppet to life.

:05:36.:05:42.

Why do you prefer stop motion? There is something different and weird

:05:43.:05:46.

about it. That is down to the fact that the stuff we see on screen

:05:47.:05:51.

actually exists. There is something incredibly beautiful about that.

:05:52.:05:56.

That's all from us this morning, we're back this afternoon,

:05:57.:05:58.

with more from the Paralympic Games in Rio. Bye!

:05:59.:06:02.
