Cyclist Dame Sarah Storey becomes Britain's most successful

:00:17.:00:17.

And Great Britain kick off day two with another

:00:18.:00:21.

Hi, I'm Martin and this is your Paralympic Newsround, live from Rio.

:00:22.:00:34.

Welcome to Brazil, the sporting action has already begun here on day

:00:35.:00:37.

And the gold rush has also begun for Great Britain,

:00:38.:00:41.

we've just bagged another gold medal in the cycling,

:00:42.:00:43.

with Sophie Thornhill and pilot Helen Scott in the women's B

:00:44.:00:46.

after a cracking opening day for Paralympics GB on Thursday.

:00:47.:00:51.

The British team picked up 11 medals in total -

:00:52.:00:53.

The biggest moment came from Cyclist Dame Sarah

:00:54.:01:08.

Storey in that stadium behind me, the velodrome.

:01:09.:01:15.

She made history by winning her 12th Paralympic gold

:01:16.:01:17.

The Sarah Storey story starts in 1977 in Manchester.

:01:18.:01:37.

She was born without a working left hand,

:01:38.:01:39.

Sarah actually started out as a swimmer,

:01:40.:01:47.

appearing at her first Paralympics in 1992,

:01:48.:01:49.

She won two golds, three silvers and a bronze.

:01:50.:01:55.

Sarah continued as a swimmer in the next three Paralympics,

:01:56.:02:01.

But in 2005, she was forced out of the pool because of ear

:02:02.:02:08.

infections - that's when she discovered a passion for cycling.

:02:09.:02:12.

The 2008 Beijing Games were her first on a bike,

:02:13.:02:15.

At the London Games in 2012, she doubled that,

:02:16.:02:21.

A year later, Sarah and her husband Barney, also a cyclist,

:02:22.:02:29.

welcomed their first child, Louisa.

:02:30.:02:34.

Louisa's in Rio and watched her mum win gold number 12,

:02:35.:02:36.

which is more than any other British female.

:02:37.:02:42.

Let's not forget her eight silver and three bronze medals,

:02:43.:02:44.

One of the brightest stars is 15-year-old

:02:45.:03:01.

swimmer Ellie Robinson from Northampton in England.

:03:02.:03:06.

She qualified fastest for the final of the S6 50m

:03:07.:03:09.

butterfly and the school was cheering her on during the race

:03:10.:03:11.

Ellie's school friends have got in touch to wish her luck before

:03:12.:03:17.

We really think you are going to go all the way and we are so proud of

:03:18.:03:28.

you. She has done so well. You should have heard the cheers. The

:03:29.:03:31.

whole school is behind you. Go, get back medal. It is incredible to

:03:32.:03:37.

think that someone RH is there. It is crazy. Good luck. You will always

:03:38.:03:46.

be a champion to us. Good luck to Ellie -

:03:47.:03:48.

and there's plenty of gold medal chances for Britain in the athletics

:03:49.:03:51.

stadium tonight too. Jonnie Peacock smashed his

:03:52.:03:54.

own Paralympic record in qualifying for

:03:55.:03:56.

the T44 100m final. And he's the firm favourite to keep

:03:57.:03:57.

the title he won at London 2012. So it's shaping up to

:03:58.:04:01.

be another great day But it's now over to Naz

:04:02.:04:05.

for the rest of the day's stories. Next to the dramatic rescue

:04:06.:04:10.

of tourists who were stranded Some spent last night over three

:04:11.:04:16.

:04:17.:04:20.

of Mont Blanc in France. 110 people were trapped

:04:21.:04:23.

after the wires carrying But now they've all have been

:04:24.:04:24.

brought down safely. It's after more than 50

:04:25.:04:42.

pupils were sent home from a school in Kent this week,

:04:43.:04:44.

because they weren't Some parents say their children

:04:45.:04:46.

were left upset, but the head teacher says sticking to the rules

:04:47.:04:51.

means better behaviour and grades. That's all from me, Ricky is back

:04:52.:04:56.
