Hi guys.

0:00:030:00:03

Welcome to the week with me Ricky and some of this on the way.

0:00:030:00:07

How magic is being used to treat these children.

0:00:070:00:11

Plus what happened when these people got stuck on a rollercoaster.

0:00:110:00:15

It's Newsround.

0:00:150:00:18

But first to Gaza, in the Middle East, where Israel

0:00:210:00:27

and the Palestinian militant group Hamas have again agreed to stop

0:00:270:00:30

fighting for another three days.

0:00:300:00:32

The 72-hour ceasefire to allow more aid into the area was agreed

0:00:320:00:35

after tense talks over the weekend.

0:00:350:00:37

This is the second time they've agreed to a break in fighitng that's

0:00:370:00:40

been going on for more than a month.

0:00:400:00:42

Yolanda Knell is in Gaza and for the BBC.

0:00:420:00:46

So far we've had no reports of any breaches to

0:00:460:00:49

the ceasefire since it came into force at midnight local time.

0:00:490:00:53

And what I can see around me now, some signs that Gaza city is coming

0:00:530:00:56

back into more of a normal state.

0:00:560:00:59

We have got cars honking on the roads below and this morning

0:00:590:01:02

we have seen fishermen going out to see although sticking very close.

0:01:020:01:09

And remember you can find out all about the full history

0:01:090:01:11

of the conflict, and how it's affecting both sides,

0:01:110:01:13

on the Newsround wesbite.

0:01:130:01:16

In other news the after effects of what was Hurricane Bertha are

0:01:160:01:19

still being felt in the UK today.

0:01:190:01:21

At the weekend a mini tornado brought down trees

0:01:210:01:23

and damaged cars and there were huge hail stones in Hampshire too.

0:01:230:01:27

But there's warnings there could be more floods in the north

0:01:270:01:30

and south-west of England, Wales and Scotland today.

0:01:300:01:33

The weather's been caused by Bertha, which hit the Caribbean last week

0:01:330:01:36

before weakening and moving across the Atlantic Ocean.

0:01:360:01:39

But if you live somewhere that was lucky enough to miss the bad weather

0:01:390:01:43

then you might have seen this spectacular supermoon last night.

0:01:430:01:46

The moon appeared bigger and brighter than normal because

0:01:460:01:48

of how close it was to the earth.

0:01:480:01:51

Some people also caught a glimpse of an amazing meteor shower

0:01:510:01:54

from the Perseid comet too.

0:01:540:01:56

Now magic has been fascinating us for centuries

0:01:560:01:59

but now there's claims that it could be used to help treat kids with

0:01:590:02:03

a certain medical condition.

0:02:030:02:04

A summer camp for kids with something called Hemiphligia's even

0:02:040:02:08

called in celebrity magician Dynamo to help them out, and Leah went

0:02:080:02:11

along to find out more.

0:02:110:02:15

Please welcome Dynamo.

0:02:150:02:18

First class magician Dynamo surprising children on

0:02:180:02:20

the last day of their summer camp.

0:02:200:02:25

They have a condition, one of the most common forms of cerebral palsy.

0:02:250:02:30

Muscle weakness on one side of the body sometimes caused

0:02:300:02:33

by brain injury or illness makes movement difficult.

0:02:330:02:41

Children living with the condition, it can be frustrating.

0:02:410:02:48

The things we do every day like getting dressed or pouring

0:02:480:02:50

a drink can be almost impossible for young people with this.

0:02:500:02:53

Researchers at this innovative project here in

0:02:530:02:56

London say magic has significantly increased their ability to carry out

0:02:560:02:58

everyday tasks by themselves.

0:02:580:03:01

Dynamo says it's important that children have fun with their magic.

0:03:010:03:11

I've given them cards to shuffle, giving them magic skills

0:03:110:03:13

for them to learn, they forget that they are exercising their muscles,

0:03:130:03:16

so it's a nice way of getting them to do exercises but they still have

0:03:160:03:19

fun at the same time.

0:03:190:03:36

Take a trick like this, a sponge ball trick, it involves a sequence

0:03:360:03:40

of

0:03:400:03:40

counting from one to 10 and doing different movements with your hands.

0:03:400:03:43

For children with this, they can have quite tightfisted

0:03:430:03:45

hands, so getting their hand flat on the table is quite tricky for them.

0:03:450:03:48

Through the repetitious movements you need to practice magic,

0:03:480:03:50

it's working on developing the strength and skills in their

0:03:500:03:58

affected hand. Researchers say before attending the camp,

0:03:580:04:00

children

0:04:000:04:01

can only perform 25% of activities.

0:04:010:04:02

On their own using both hands.

0:04:020:04:04

And it seems a little that of magic goes a long way as 10 days

0:04:040:04:07

later, 93% of children completed their tasks with both hands.

0:04:070:04:10

It's made me feel actually quite excited.

0:04:100:04:11

It's my first time here and I'm really enjoying it.

0:04:110:04:14

I liked seeing dynamo.

0:04:140:04:14

Experts say a mix of magic and practical skills provide

0:04:140:04:17

children with the confidence they need to grab life with both hands.

0:04:170:04:20

Dynamo, before we go, can we do a magic trick?

0:04:200:04:22

I think we should disappear.

0:04:220:04:23

OK.

0:04:230:04:26

It was a big day of sport so to catch up with how Arsenal

0:04:260:04:30

beat Manchester City in the Community Shield and

0:04:300:04:31

Rory McIlroy won his fourth golf major head to our website now.

0:04:310:04:36

Firefighters have rescued 24 people who got stuck on a roller coaster

0:04:360:04:39

in America.

0:04:390:04:41

The Jokers' Jinx ride at the Six Flags theme park in Maryland

0:04:410:04:44

broke down, leaving those on board stranded for

0:04:440:04:46

around five hours near the highest point of the roller coaster.

0:04:460:04:49

Rescuers offered the riders umbrellas to protect them

0:04:490:04:52

from the sunlight.

0:04:520:04:52

Luckily, no one was seriously hurt.

0:04:520:04:57

That's all from me, Newsround's back right here in about half an hour.
