This is Newsround on Wednesday the 11th of November.

0:00:030:00:07

I'm Ricky with this morning's top stories.

0:00:070:00:09

Coming up:

0:00:090:00:11

The elephants helping to fight fires.

0:00:110:00:18

And the incredibly rare pink diamond.

0:00:180:00:22

Today is Armistice Day - and at 11 o'clock

0:00:270:00:31

a two minute silence will be held across the country to remember those

0:00:310:00:33

who have lost their lives in war.

0:00:340:00:37

It starts at the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month -

0:00:370:00:41

the time in 1918 when the guns finally fell silent along the

0:00:410:00:47

Western Front in World War I and an armistice, or peace, was declared.

0:00:470:00:51

People across the country will be marking the event, and we asked some

0:00:510:00:54

of you what you'll be thinking about at 11 o'clock today.

0:00:540:00:59

I will be thinking about my grandad and many of the

0:00:590:01:02

soldiers who fought in the war and risked their lives to save us.

0:01:020:01:06

I will be thinking about the people who died for us so we can be

0:01:060:01:10

happy and live in a free country.

0:01:100:01:13

I will be thinking about all those soldiers and people that have

0:01:130:01:16

risked their lives for us.

0:01:160:01:19

To me, it means that I am being very respectful to the people

0:01:190:01:25

who took part in the war.

0:01:250:01:29

It makes me feel proud of my country and people who suffered for us.

0:01:290:01:35

I will be thinking of the people that risked their lives for our

0:01:350:01:39

lives, so we can be a proud country.

0:01:390:01:43

It makes me feel grateful, and I need to respect it.

0:01:430:01:48

I will be thinking about this poppy because it

0:01:480:01:50

represents Flanders Field, which was the first poppy to be grown,

0:01:500:01:54

and represents new life and hope.

0:01:540:01:59

And we want to know if you have anyone you will be remembering today

0:01:590:02:02

and what Remembrance Day means to you, so head to our website

0:02:020:02:05

and get in touch.

0:02:050:02:09

Next, a very rare pink diamond has been sold at auction It's called

0:02:090:02:12

"the pink" and it was bought for ?18.5 million at the sale in Geneva

0:02:120:02:17

in Switzerland.

0:02:170:02:19

The people selling the diamond say that only three pink

0:02:190:02:21

stones like this have come for sale over the past 250 years.

0:02:210:02:25

No one wonder it was so expensive!

0:02:250:02:30

A volcano in Mexico has erupted for the third time in a week,

0:02:300:02:33

sending a column of smoke thousands of metres into the sky.

0:02:330:02:36

The Colima volcano in the south-west of Mexico has been showing signs

0:02:360:02:40

of activity since July.

0:02:400:02:42

Over the past months, nearby villages have been blanketed

0:02:420:02:45

with thick coats of ash, but no evacuation was needed

0:02:450:02:48

for Wednesday's eruption.

0:02:480:02:51

Yesterday, we told you about how a famous animal park is

0:02:510:02:54

planning to make changes to their killer whale displays

0:02:540:02:57

at one of its sites in America.

0:02:570:02:58

SeaWorld has said they will phase out entertainment shows

0:02:580:03:01

at their site in San Diego to concentrate on showing

0:03:010:03:05

the animals in a more natural way.

0:03:050:03:06

The decision by SeaWorld comes after years of pressure from campaigners

0:03:060:03:13

One person who agrees with that is CBBC wildlife presenter, Steve

0:03:130:03:16

Backshall, and he told us why.

0:03:160:03:20

Orca are the world's largest species of dolphin, and as you'd expect,

0:03:200:03:23

they have a very big brain, they are very intelligent,

0:03:230:03:28

they are really social with the other members of their pod, which

0:03:280:03:31

usually are members of their own family.

0:03:310:03:33

It has also been shown that they will grieve their dead

0:03:330:03:35

and they will grieve when their calves are removed away from

0:03:350:03:38

them to be taken into captivity.

0:03:380:03:40

And this is a creature which can travel 100 miles in a day,

0:03:400:03:44

like swimming from London to Birmingham, every single day.

0:03:440:03:47

So if you were to take an orca and stick it into, essentially, a

0:03:470:03:51

large swimming pool, I think it would be

0:03:510:03:52

like having us locked into a

0:03:520:03:54

bedroom for the whole of the rest of our lives with one single song in

0:03:540:03:58

the

0:03:580:03:58

background being played on loop over and over again,

0:03:580:04:02

never able to communicate with other members of our friends and family.

0:04:020:04:06

I don't think this one species should be kept in captivity.

0:04:060:04:11

SeaWorld say they look after the animals well

0:04:110:04:13

and have sent us this statement.

0:04:130:04:15

Fire fighters in Indonesia, in Southeast Asia, have taken

0:04:310:04:34

on some new members to help them look after the local forests.

0:04:340:04:38

More than 20 elephants have been trained to help to put out forest

0:04:380:04:41

fires in the country's Siak district.

0:04:410:04:44

The animals can carry water pumps, hoses and other equipment whilst

0:04:440:04:46

out on patrol around the forests.

0:04:460:04:52

Next, should we have a national animal in Britian?

0:04:520:04:56

In Russia they have the bear and in Australia it's the kangaroo .

0:04:560:04:59

So should the humble hegdehog become the symbol for the UK?

0:04:590:05:01

Well, Conservative MP Oliver Colville thinks so.

0:05:010:05:03

He wants there to be vote on which animal should represent us,

0:05:030:05:06

and he's backing the hedgehog.

0:05:060:05:09

He thinks it could help save the species, whose numbers have

0:05:090:05:11

fallen by more than a third over the last decade, with fewer than

0:05:110:05:14

a million left in the wild now.

0:05:140:05:17

Finally - it's been a busy few weeks for these guys.

0:05:170:05:20

They're are all dressed up as Father Christmas.

0:05:200:05:22

These men have just graduated from Santa School in Brazil.

0:05:220:05:24

The school prepares them for a very busy December which will see many

0:05:240:05:28

of them working in shopping centres - spreading the Christmas joy!

0:05:280:05:32

Just enough time to remind you to get involved in a vote that's

0:05:320:05:35

taking place right now online.

0:05:350:05:36

In a special programme called Bullying:

0:05:360:05:38

The Newsround Debate, we're asking you if bullies should

0:05:380:05:40

be helped or punished.

0:05:400:05:42

Make your choice over on the CBBC website.

0:05:420:05:45

We'll reveal the outcome of that vote next week.

0:05:450:05:49

That's all from me, do get online and let us know

0:05:490:05:52

your Remembrance Day stories.

0:05:520:05:53

Newsround is back later this afternoon.

0:05:530:05:54

Bye!
