Good afternoon, it's Leah here live on CBBC with your Newsround update. | :00:00. | :00:00.
Stayed tuned to see the freezing cold temperatures hitting New York. | :00:07. | :00:12.
And unearthing the secrets of the Bronze Age. | :00:13. | :00:25.
First today, thousands of junior doctors around England haven't gone | :00:26. | :00:27.
Instead they've been on strike for the first time | :00:28. | :00:30.
It has meant that thousands of operations have had to be cancelled. | :00:31. | :00:42.
It's because they're unhappy about new plans | :00:43. | :00:44.
Junior doctors across England today have gone on strike. | :00:45. | :00:47.
ALL: No ifs, no buts, no junior doctor cuts. | :00:48. | :00:49.
Meaning they're not going to work, and it's all because they want | :00:50. | :00:52.
to protest against the Government over the amount of hours they have | :00:53. | :00:55.
Junior doctors are newer doctors, still training, but they still work | :00:56. | :01:00.
in hospitals and local surgeries treating patients. | :01:01. | :01:05.
They say new ways of working planned by the Government are unfair | :01:06. | :01:08.
and could make things dangerous for patients because they will be | :01:09. | :01:11.
None of us want to go on strike, but we are that worried that we have | :01:12. | :01:17.
done it, so I think we have come here today with the hope that we can | :01:18. | :01:21.
show everyone our concern, and that people will listen to that. | :01:22. | :01:26.
The Government say that the plans are fair, and it means things | :01:27. | :01:29.
will improve for people who go to hospitals, | :01:30. | :01:30.
In the end, this is a completely unnecessary dispute. | :01:31. | :01:36.
We have some disagreements with the BMA over pay, | :01:37. | :01:39.
but we all want to promise every patient who uses the NHS the promise | :01:40. | :01:42.
of the same high quality care every day of the week. | :01:43. | :01:48.
The strike will last until 8am on Wednesday morning, | :01:49. | :01:53.
but doctors are still working in Accident and Emergency wards, | :01:54. | :01:55.
and any people who need to go to hospital will still be treated. | :01:56. | :02:00.
In case of emergencies, though, people should still dial 999. | :02:01. | :02:03.
If the two sides can't agree, there are more strikes planned | :02:04. | :02:05.
To southern India, where fisherman have rescued whales that had become | :02:06. | :02:14.
They were able to get at least 36 short-finned whales back | :02:15. | :02:19.
Marine biologists say the group may have | :02:20. | :02:21.
We're being told to prepare for colder weather that's coming | :02:22. | :02:27.
this week, but it's nothing compared to the icy blast | :02:28. | :02:30.
That turned this car into a giant icicle. | :02:31. | :02:36.
Forecasters are predicting three days of extreme snow and ice, | :02:37. | :02:39.
with some parts expected to see around two feet of snow | :02:40. | :02:41.
Sport now, and he's been voted best player in the world | :02:42. | :02:49.
Barcelona's Lionel Messi picked up Fifa's top prize, | :02:50. | :02:54.
the Ballon d'Or award, after scoring 52 goals in just 61 | :02:55. | :02:57.
Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo came second, with Brazilian striker | :02:58. | :03:02.
Archaeologists are excited about a discovery of what's thought | :03:03. | :03:09.
to be some of the best-preserved Bronze Age dwellings in Britain. | :03:10. | :03:12.
Under this massive quarry in Cambridgeshire is a taste | :03:13. | :03:17.
of what life was like 3,000 years ago. | :03:18. | :03:22.
This is Must Farm, and back in the Bronze Age, several families | :03:23. | :03:29.
They say this be the best ever example of Bronze Age homes | :03:30. | :03:34.
It's so significant that we are having to come up | :03:35. | :03:42.
with new questions about what we might learn from the site. | :03:43. | :03:45.
I'm already building a picture here of a society from 3000 years | :03:46. | :03:48.
ago that feels like it was just yesterday in that sense. | :03:49. | :03:50.
A massive fire destroyed this site at the time, | :03:51. | :03:53.
and the buildings collapsed into the river. | :03:54. | :03:56.
But it's actually helped to preserve the homes in such a good state. | :03:57. | :03:59.
What really excites the team here is that some of these artefacts | :04:00. | :04:02.
are so well preserved, they offer an insight | :04:03. | :04:04.
into what domestic life was like all those years ago. | :04:05. | :04:09.
So, there is a dagger just here, and then there is this sort, | :04:10. | :04:14.
and if you just look at these clay pots, they are in such good | :04:15. | :04:18.
condition, somebody has left their dinner inside. | :04:19. | :04:20.
It doesn't look that appetising now, but I bet it was at the time. | :04:21. | :04:25.
Once the team are done here, all the items will be packed off | :04:26. | :04:28.
to a museum so we can learn more about our prehistoric past. | :04:29. | :04:32.
It's starlings flying in the skies of southern Israel. | :04:33. | :04:44.
It's called a murmuration, and they do it to help each other | :04:45. | :04:47.
The changing shape confuses any would-be attackers. | :04:48. | :04:51.
Newsround's back tomorrow morning at 7.40 with Ayshah. | :04:52. | :04:55. |
