Good afternoon, Ayshah here with Friday's stories.

:00:00.:00:00.

Here's what's coming up on the show...

:00:07.:00:09.

Tim Peake talks about his time in space.

:00:10.:00:18.

And I'm live in Birmingham ahead of a weekend of Awesome Authors.

:00:19.:00:28.

First to the sad news of an attack in the French

:00:29.:00:31.

It happened last night during a large firework display

:00:32.:00:35.

I've been finding out what happened and how it's not the first time

:00:36.:00:41.

Last night should've been full of celebrations in France,

:00:42.:00:47.

But in Nice, a city in the south of France,

:00:48.:00:53.

there was a terrible attack on people celebrating.

:00:54.:00:56.

into the crowds of people who were watching

:00:57.:01:00.

He was quickly stopped and killed by police

:01:01.:01:08.

but at least 84 people have died and around 50 more were injured.

:01:09.:01:11.

Emergency services arrived quickly on the scene to help those

:01:12.:01:14.

France's president has called it a terrorist attack.

:01:15.:01:19.

Sadly it's not the first time something like this

:01:20.:01:22.

In January last year, people working at the Charlie Hebdo

:01:23.:01:30.

magazine were targeted, as well as people in

:01:31.:01:31.

And then in November there were a number of attacks

:01:32.:01:35.

The extremist group that calls itself Islamic State -

:01:36.:01:43.

or IS - have said they had carried out those attacks but it's not

:01:44.:01:46.

yet known who's behind what happened in Nice.

:01:47.:01:49.

But why are these attacks happening in France?

:01:50.:01:53.

IS have an extreme view of the religion of Islam which means

:01:54.:01:56.

they believe that democracies like France are their enemy.

:01:57.:02:07.

The French military has bombed Islamic State

:02:08.:02:14.

in its bases in Iraq and Syria, and IS has said that the terror

:02:15.:02:18.

Attacks like this are always shocking but it's important

:02:19.:02:21.

to remember that events like this are extremely rare.

:02:22.:02:23.

France will have three days of mourning to remember the victims.

:02:24.:02:27.

France's president has also said they will improve security to help

:02:28.:02:31.

keep people living there and those visiting the country safe.

:02:32.:02:35.

If you want to find out more about what's

:02:36.:02:37.

And remember if you're upset by anything you hear in the news,

:02:38.:02:43.

A huge CBBC event called Awesome Authors is happening

:02:44.:02:54.

in Birmingham this weekend, and Jenny is live there for us now.

:02:55.:02:59.

:03:58.:04:06.

astronaut Tim Peake. He arrived back on Earth over three

:04:18.:04:20.

weeks ago but now he's talking about the highs of living

:04:21.:04:23.

in space for the first time. The first meal was actually on the

:04:24.:04:30.

aircraft that was bringing me back from Kazakhstan and I was delighted

:04:31.:04:34.

because they had prepared some reddish tea bags for me, so I had a

:04:35.:04:45.

cup of tea with a bit of salad, cheese and biscuits. That is all you
