Good morning, Ricky here live on CBBC.

0:00:040:00:06

You're in the right place for all your top stories.

0:00:060:00:08

Coming up this hour:

0:00:080:00:10

The rescue dogs helping to sniff out danger,

0:00:100:00:14

and turtle-cam - we take a look at the camera being used

0:00:140:00:17

to help these creatures.

0:00:170:00:19

People living in the north of Scotland are trying

0:00:290:00:31

to rebuild their lives after massive floods devastated homes,

0:00:310:00:34

businesses and schools.

0:00:340:00:37

Martin has been to one of the worst-affected areas to see

0:00:370:00:39

how people there are coping.

0:00:390:00:43

Finally, the locals here in the small village of Braemar

0:00:430:00:45

in northeast Scotland had something to cheer about.

0:00:450:00:49

The Invercauld Bridge has been reopened.

0:00:490:00:52

It may not seem like a big deal, but just a few weeks ago,

0:00:520:00:55

everyone living here got a bit of a shock.

0:00:550:00:58

December was the wettest month ever recorded in Scotland.

0:00:580:01:02

Constant, heavy rain caused the River Dee to burst its banks.

0:01:020:01:05

This was the damage left behind.

0:01:050:01:09

These vehicles passing me right now are amongst the first to go over

0:01:090:01:14

the bridge since it was closed.

0:01:140:01:15

It's not a surprise that it's the people who have been

0:01:150:01:18

the worst affected by the floods here.

0:01:180:01:20

Before the floods we got one bus, it took an hour to get to school.

0:01:200:01:24

We've had to get three buses in the morning and we've had to walk

0:01:240:01:27

round instead of going over the bridge that we usually go over.

0:01:270:01:30

It's kind of exciting to see the water that high,

0:01:300:01:34

but after you actually realise the power of water.

0:01:340:01:39

It's quite dangerous.

0:01:390:01:43

While the party is well and truly underway in Braemar,

0:01:430:01:45

people living in Ballater, just 16 miles down the road,

0:01:450:01:47

are still living without homes.

0:01:470:01:51

So is this really a time for celebration?

0:01:510:01:54

Just because we're celebrating an opening of the bridge,

0:01:540:01:57

doesn't mean to say we're not still working really hard to help

0:01:570:02:00

people in other parts.

0:02:000:02:02

There's an awful lot of work to do and we're doing it

0:02:020:02:05

as quickly as we can.

0:02:050:02:06

I've decided to meet some kids in the worst-hit areas to see

0:02:060:02:10

how they're coping.

0:02:100:02:11

I was in my bed when it happened.

0:02:110:02:13

You could see down the bottom to the caravan park,

0:02:130:02:16

and you could see caravans going past.

0:02:160:02:19

It was quite scary.

0:02:190:02:20

One of my friends lives across from the River Dee.

0:02:200:02:23

His house was completely flooded and he had to get airlifted.

0:02:230:02:25

Everyone has been supportive of one another, and people

0:02:250:02:29

who weren't affected have given up a lot of their stuff.

0:02:290:02:32

There was a big tent full of food that flood victims could just

0:02:320:02:37

go and take as much as they needed.

0:02:370:02:39

We went there a few times.

0:02:390:02:41

People have been very helpful.

0:02:410:02:45

We see a lot of people moving stuff out their houses,

0:02:450:02:47

or just being helped by people.

0:02:470:02:49

It's good to see people come together

0:02:490:02:51

and help each other.

0:02:510:02:54

To Mexico in North America, and the Colima volcano has

0:02:540:02:56

erupted once again.

0:02:560:02:58

Ash was thrown nearly 3000 metres into the air.

0:02:580:03:01

People living nearby did not have leave their homes this time.

0:03:010:03:04

It's also called the fire volcano and it's been very active

0:03:040:03:08

in the past few months.

0:03:080:03:11

Next up, rescue dogs are a big help to police forces around the UK.

0:03:110:03:14

When a person goes missing they're a key part of the search efforts.

0:03:140:03:17

Ayshah's been finding out about the important role they play.

0:03:170:03:23

When someone goes missing in the UK, a whole team of people

0:03:230:03:26

are standing by to help.

0:03:260:03:28

Helicopters scan the ground, police officers go out on foot,

0:03:280:03:32

and there's another special team to help the police.

0:03:320:03:34

This team of rescue dogs in Sussex aren't

0:03:340:03:37

members of the emergency services, they're just normal pooches.

0:03:370:03:42

They have been specially trained to use

0:03:420:03:45

their noses and instincts to find people who need help.

0:03:450:03:48

The dogs and their owners are on call 24 hours a day

0:03:480:03:51

to rescue anyone in trouble.

0:03:510:03:54

On average, they get sent out twice a month.

0:03:540:03:56

And it's not just in Sussex, there are other teams like this

0:03:560:03:59

all over the UK.

0:03:590:04:01

Once I put her coat on and give her the command to go find,

0:04:010:04:04

she'll run off and use her nose and find

0:04:040:04:07

any human scent in the area.

0:04:070:04:09

Any pup can volunteer to join the team, and there are special

0:04:090:04:12

beginners' training courses every year.

0:04:120:04:15

The dogs are very, very good at what they do,

0:04:150:04:18

they can cover the areas quickly.

0:04:180:04:20

These helpful hounds are making a big difference

0:04:200:04:23

in their communities.

0:04:230:04:24

And have really earned their status as man's best friend.

0:04:240:04:28

For the first time, conservationists in Africa have used a special

0:04:280:04:32

"turtle-cam" to show the release of the animal back into the sea,

0:04:320:04:36

live on the internet.

0:04:360:04:38

The Local Ocean Trust in the town of Watamu in Kenya cares

0:04:380:04:41

for sea turtles who have been trapped and injured in fishing nets.

0:04:410:04:45

The underwater camera footage is being used to help the team see

0:04:450:04:49

how well the turtles have recovered.

0:04:490:04:52

Take a look at this tiny baby penguin born at a zoo in America.

0:04:520:04:56

The pygmy blue penguin is only a few days old and was shown off

0:04:560:04:59

at Cinicinnati Zoo in Ohio.

0:04:590:05:02

The ball of brown fuzz is being cared for and fed

0:05:020:05:04

by staff at the zoo.

0:05:040:05:06

It's too young to know whether it's a boy or a girl.

0:05:060:05:09

This is Bowie.

0:05:090:05:10

Bowie is just a couple of days old.

0:05:100:05:12

Just now starting to open his or her eyes -

0:05:120:05:14

we don't know if it's a boy or girl yet.

0:05:140:05:17

But it is a little penguin, the smallest penguin species

0:05:170:05:19

on the planet.

0:05:190:05:21

And we are lucky enough to have the largest

0:05:210:05:23

colony in North America of these guys.

0:05:230:05:25

We've been pretty lucky and doing pretty good with these guys

0:05:250:05:28

as a whole, as a species.

0:05:280:05:31

A group of dogs and their owners have stretched and twisted their way

0:05:310:05:34

to a new world record in China.

0:05:340:05:36

The 270 pets were taking part in the dog yoga,

0:05:360:05:39

or "doga", session in Hong Kong, which lasted for an hour.

0:05:390:05:43

The previous record was 265 dogs, set last year in San Diego, USA.

0:05:430:05:49

That's all from me this morning.

0:05:490:05:52

Head over to the Newsround website to see a squirrel diving into snow -

0:05:520:05:56

it's really funny.

0:05:560:05:57

Newsround's back this afternoon at 4:20pm with Jenny.
