Good morning - Jenny here, live with all the news you need | :00:00. | :00:00.
Europe's Mars mission crosses it's fingers for a safe landing. | :00:00. | :00:17.
And the people looking after these cute but spiky creatures. | :00:18. | :00:31.
When was the last time you saw a hedgehog? | :00:32. | :00:33.
Well, research carried out by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust has | :00:34. | :00:38.
found there has been a huge drop in the number of hedgehogs | :00:39. | :00:41.
Hedgehogs - they are cute and prickly, but life in busy towns | :00:42. | :00:46.
and cities can present a real dangers for our spiky friends. | :00:47. | :00:49.
Sanctuaries like this one just go to show the problems | :00:50. | :01:09.
There are 80 to 90 hedgehogs here, all tucked up safe and warm. | :01:10. | :01:14.
They are usually found by people who bring them to us. | :01:15. | :01:18.
We have abandoned babies, babies who have wandered off | :01:19. | :01:20.
Injuries through streamers and netting, road accidents. | :01:21. | :01:23.
We also have the sick ones that are found lying in people's | :01:24. | :01:26.
We try to get them up to weight as soon as possible and then | :01:27. | :01:30.
25-year-old Ali is the youngest hedgehog officer in the UK, | :01:31. | :01:39.
and it is her job to link up these areas of green space to give | :01:40. | :01:42.
hedgehogs the chance to move around freely and safely when they come | :01:43. | :01:45.
We have obviously got lots of great parks across the town but also | :01:46. | :01:54.
lots of houses, fences and walls making it difficult for them to get | :01:55. | :01:57.
between these great habitats, so we are trying to get volunteers | :01:58. | :01:59.
on board who will manage their gardens for hedgehogs | :02:00. | :02:02.
and will hopefully persuade their neighbours to do the same | :02:03. | :02:05.
so we have whole streets of connected gardens that hedgehogs | :02:06. | :02:07.
will be able to easily navigate their way through. | :02:08. | :02:10.
We have got a hole down here so they can get | :02:11. | :02:13.
Ten-year-old Daisy is one of the many people across | :02:14. | :02:22.
the UK doing their bit to help the hedgehogs. | :02:23. | :02:24.
It is important to take care of hedgehogs because they are | :02:25. | :02:27.
endangered and I want them to be around when I am older. | :02:28. | :02:34.
I've been making it somewhere that hedgehogs can come and live and stay | :02:35. | :02:37.
For example, I have made some houses and I give them water | :02:38. | :02:44.
Anyone my age that wants to do it, I'd say, yes, they can do it, | :02:45. | :02:56.
because the more help that we have, the more hedgehogs there will be. | :02:57. | :03:01.
And in Champions League action last night, | :03:02. | :03:04.
Leicester City are on the brink of making the knockout stages | :03:05. | :03:06.
A Riyad Mahrez goal helped the Premier League champions | :03:07. | :03:10.
beat FC Copenhagen 1-0, to now make it three | :03:11. | :03:12.
They are already five points clear of second place, and seem | :03:13. | :03:17.
Elsewhere, Tottenham were away at German side | :03:18. | :03:20.
And they had their goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to thank after coming | :03:21. | :03:24.
He put in a man-of-the-match performance to secure them a point, | :03:25. | :03:30.
Later, today the space probe Schiaparelli is all set to land | :03:31. | :03:40.
If all goes well, it will be the European Space Agency's | :03:41. | :03:44.
first successful landing on the Red Planet. | :03:45. | :03:46.
If this attempt works, it'll be the start of a mission that experts | :03:47. | :03:49.
believe stands the greatest chance yet of finding evidence | :03:50. | :03:51.
Professor Tim O'Brien from Jodrell Bank joins me now. | :03:52. | :04:03.
Tim, this isn't the first landing on Mars, is it? | :04:04. | :04:06.
It is the mission that is going to test the technology that lets us | :04:07. | :04:17.
land on Mars so it is difficult, but we looking forward to future | :04:18. | :04:22.
missions and in 2020 we will send a Rover to Mars that will drive deep | :04:23. | :04:26.
into the surface of Mars. It is all about how we get from space right | :04:27. | :04:30.
down to the surface successfully. An exciting time. | :04:31. | :04:35.
Astronaut Tim Peake told Newsround he believes | :04:36. | :04:37.
I am not sure it will be intelligent life but there could be life on | :04:38. | :04:47.
Mars. There is another spacecraft going around Mars and that one is | :04:48. | :04:51.
designed to look for gases like methane in the atmosphere that are | :04:52. | :04:54.
thought to be produced by like some microbes might even exist now below | :04:55. | :04:59.
the surface of Mars. The last time there was a European mission to land | :05:00. | :05:04.
on Mars it was not successful. You're a part of that. Why was it so | :05:05. | :05:11.
tricky? Yes, Beagle Two was a British spacecraft drop on | :05:12. | :05:18.
tomorrow's -- on to Mars. I was in the control room. It is hard. It | :05:19. | :05:25.
hits the atmosphere moving at 20,000km/h so it heats up | :05:26. | :05:29.
incredibly, has to slow down with parachutes and rockets until it is | :05:30. | :05:33.
just above the surface at which point the rocket switch off and it | :05:34. | :05:35.
drops onto the surface for the last two metres so it is very difficult | :05:36. | :05:39.
to do and in very harsh conditions as well. My goodness! An exciting | :05:40. | :05:44.
time. Thank you for coming in to speak to us about it. We will have | :05:45. | :05:48.
more on that. Make sure you're watching online as well. | :05:49. | :05:50.
Newsround's back right here at 4.20 with Ricky. | :05:51. | :05:53.
