doing can have serious consequences on someone else 's life. | :00:16. | :00:16.
The kids speaking out against bullying. | :00:17. | :00:19.
Leah finds out how kids here in the UK are dealing with the latest | :00:20. | :00:22.
It's been a week since the attacks in Paris, in France, where more | :00:23. | :00:38.
The extremist Islamic group known as the Islamic State carried out | :00:39. | :00:43.
This week we've heard from French kids about how they're coping. | :00:44. | :00:50.
But we also wanted to know how children like you here | :00:51. | :00:53.
So Leah went to a school in Manchester to find out. | :00:54. | :00:58.
Can you tell me what you thought after you heard about the Paris | :00:59. | :01:01.
It made me feel scared that they might do it to us. | :01:02. | :01:07.
Why have they done it and if they will do it again. | :01:08. | :01:11.
And how are you helping each other cope with this? | :01:12. | :01:15.
We try to speak with each other and understand that even | :01:16. | :01:19.
though most of my friends at school are Muslim, | :01:20. | :01:22.
that not any of them would ever do anything like that. | :01:23. | :01:25.
Has it made you think differently about what you're doing | :01:26. | :01:28.
I still go out and play with my friends because I'm | :01:29. | :01:34.
not going to let it get in the way of my childhood and growing up. | :01:35. | :01:40.
And coming from a Muslim community, how do you feel about it? | :01:41. | :01:44.
And what about what you talk about with your | :01:45. | :01:47.
They think they're doing it for the Koran but in our religion it | :01:48. | :01:52.
is mostly about peace, tranquillity and having respect | :01:53. | :01:54.
My Mosque community thinks that it is not right to say that | :01:55. | :02:03.
What advice would you have for other children in how they can cope | :02:04. | :02:11.
You shouldn't be scared and you shouldn't | :02:12. | :02:15.
Don't blame your friends because it's not them. | :02:16. | :02:22.
What's your message to the children of Paris right now? | :02:23. | :02:26.
It's the final day of Anti-Bullying Week | :02:27. | :02:33.
The Newsround Debate was shown on CBBC - the very first debate ever | :02:34. | :02:38.
held on such an important subject that really matters to many of you. | :02:39. | :02:41.
Children in the audience were asked to vote on a big question - | :02:42. | :02:47.
if it's more important to punish or help a bully. | :02:48. | :02:50.
They all pressed their electronic keypads. | :02:51. | :02:52.
30% said they should be punished but 70% said they should be helped. | :02:53. | :02:57.
2400 children also voted online - that gives you a rough idea | :02:58. | :03:00.
of what kids across the UK might think - and the results there were | :03:01. | :03:05.
I think they should be punished because what they're | :03:06. | :03:13.
doing is wrong and they need to learn that what they're doing can | :03:14. | :03:16.
have serious consequences on someone else's life. | :03:17. | :03:18.
I think they should be helped and punished because first they need | :03:19. | :03:22.
to understand what they have done and how it can hurt the other person | :03:23. | :03:27.
and make a consequence on someone else's life and what the | :03:28. | :03:31.
consequences are on them, and then if they keep on doing it | :03:32. | :03:34.
I think the bullies should be helped because most bullies take out | :03:35. | :03:39.
their anger on other people and jealousy on other people. | :03:40. | :03:45.
I think bullies should be helped because they may be unhappy at home | :03:46. | :03:48.
That doesn't give them a right or excuse to upset other people. | :03:49. | :03:59.
They should be helped as they might be having problems | :04:00. | :04:01.
It might not be their fault, they might just be stressed | :04:02. | :04:06.
and want to take it out on someone else but because they | :04:07. | :04:09.
have problems of their own that doesn't mean they shouldn't be | :04:10. | :04:11.
To find out more we have Alex Holmes who is an anti bullying specialist | :04:12. | :04:21.
Good morning Alex - thanks for joining us. | :04:22. | :04:23.
So what did you think of the results? | :04:24. | :04:28.
I think Newsround viewers have been spot-on. It is a balance between | :04:29. | :04:34.
helping and punishing. The thing I heard a lot from those young people | :04:35. | :04:39.
was consequences. It is important that if someone is being believed | :04:40. | :04:42.
that they know their behaviour is not acceptable and they do have a | :04:43. | :04:48.
lesson to be learned. How can you help rebuild the? If you are being | :04:49. | :04:53.
bullied it's not OK to beef made feel upset, is or comfortable and | :04:54. | :04:58.
the Billy needs to know that. It's important you don't retaliate | :04:59. | :05:00.
because if you do those things that you are just as bad. It's just as | :05:01. | :05:05.
potent and adults can work with the person who is being the Billy and | :05:06. | :05:08.
find out what is going on in their life just like the young people | :05:09. | :05:14.
said. That meant being the Billy. Quite a lot of those kids say they | :05:15. | :05:20.
had been bullied. Are we seeing more kids suffering from this? Are | :05:21. | :05:24.
charity, we find that lots of young people, just over half of people are | :05:25. | :05:29.
believed. It's not acceptable. It is something that happens and it is | :05:30. | :05:33.
important not to suffer in silence. If you don't feel safe or happy got | :05:34. | :05:36.
to find someone and tell them and things get so much better the moment | :05:37. | :05:41.
you do. Kids are so brave to talk up about these kinds of things because | :05:42. | :05:46.
you can bottle it up? Absolutely full if you go to school today, it's | :05:47. | :05:50.
important you speak about what is going on and if you have a problem, | :05:51. | :05:53.
worry or concerned, there are loads of people in your life who can help | :05:54. | :05:58.
you. That's all from me. Thank you. See this afternoon. | :05:59. | :06:02. |
