Hello, good morning, I'm Naz. | 0:00:12 | 0:00:13
It's Wednesday and this is Newsround. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:17
First up, you've told us that bullying on social media | 0:00:17 | 0:00:19
is a problem that many of you face. | 0:00:19 | 0:00:22
Well, now Instagram has decided to roll out a new feature getting | 0:00:22 | 0:00:25
rid of any comments you may find offensive or upsetting. | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
But will it stop the bullies? | 0:00:27 | 0:00:29
I've been asking whether you think it'll work. | 0:00:29 | 0:00:31
Social media is used by millions worldwide. | 0:00:34 | 0:00:37
But bullying is a big problem. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:43
Social media companies have been accused of not doing enough. | 0:00:43 | 0:00:45
And kids being bullied know that certain features made | 0:00:45 | 0:00:49
to help just don't work. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:52
Now Instagram has rolled out a new feature where you can list | 0:00:52 | 0:00:56
all the words and emojis that upset you. | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
And this is one example of how it works. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:04
I really don't like the word horrible, and the angry emoji | 0:01:05 | 0:01:08
really does make me angry, so I can put those words and that | 0:01:08 | 0:01:11
emoji on a list of words that I don't like, so if anybody comments | 0:01:11 | 0:01:16
on my pics with "horrible" or the angry emoji, they will be | 0:01:16 | 0:01:20
removed automatically and I won't see them. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:24
Instagram says they did this to make sure "everyone feels | 0:01:24 | 0:01:27
safe to be themselves without criticism or harassment". | 0:01:27 | 0:01:31
But what do these year nines think? | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
Will it work? | 0:01:35 | 0:01:36
Some people can find ways around the censoring, and they | 0:01:36 | 0:01:38
will use other words. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:42
There's ways around it, they will use physical bullying | 0:01:42 | 0:01:44
and then there's phone calls and other social medias. | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
Getting the words right and what makes you feel safe | 0:01:47 | 0:01:49
will take a lot of time. | 0:01:49 | 0:01:53
It will probably work for the first week and then get forgotten. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:57
It will give people a sense of security, thinking | 0:01:57 | 0:02:00
that they can't have people saying rude comments about them. | 0:02:00 | 0:02:02
I think that the new feature wouldn't work because they would | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
find a way around it and use different emojis. | 0:02:04 | 0:02:09
This is just one idea, but the reality - it | 0:02:09 | 0:02:11
won't solve bullying overnight. | 0:02:11 | 0:02:15
And if you're worried about any kind of bullying, | 0:02:15 | 0:02:17
then head over to the CBBC website where you can find loads of advice. | 0:02:17 | 0:02:20
Now, to a big story happening in Syria, a country | 0:02:22 | 0:02:24
in the Middle East where different groups have been at war | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
for more than five years. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:28
On Monday, aid workers taking trucks full of food, clothes and medicine | 0:02:28 | 0:02:31
to people caught in the fighting were attacked and around | 0:02:31 | 0:02:34
20 people died. | 0:02:34 | 0:02:36
America has blamed Russian warplanes for the attack, | 0:02:36 | 0:02:39
calling it an enormous tragedy, but Russia strongly | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
denies being involved. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:46
The aid workers were from the United Nations, | 0:02:46 | 0:02:47
and now the organisation, which gets countries to work | 0:02:47 | 0:02:53
together for peace, says it will stop sending any | 0:02:53 | 0:02:55
more aid into Syria. | 0:02:55 | 0:02:58
BBC reporter James Longman sent Newsround this from | 0:02:58 | 0:03:00
neighbouring country Lebanon. | 0:03:00 | 0:03:04
There are millions of people who live in parts of Syria | 0:03:04 | 0:03:06
without regular access to food or medical supplies, | 0:03:06 | 0:03:10
and this convoy was volunteer is trying to get aid to a town | 0:03:10 | 0:03:13
in the north of Syria. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:17
Now, eyewitnesses say bombs were dropped from helicopters | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
on a warehouse and 18 trucks, and they had enough aid and medical | 0:03:19 | 0:03:22
supplies for 78,000 people. | 0:03:22 | 0:03:26
It comes at a very difficult time for the country, because last week | 0:03:26 | 0:03:29
there was supposed to be a pause in the fighting, | 0:03:29 | 0:03:32
but it has been very difficult to get all the different groups | 0:03:32 | 0:03:35
inside Syria to agree. | 0:03:35 | 0:03:36
So now politicians are going to have to find a way to save the ceasefire, | 0:03:36 | 0:03:45
but it's very difficult to see how they can do that, | 0:03:45 | 0:03:48
because if you hit aid workers in a war zone, | 0:03:48 | 0:03:50
that is against international law, and that is a war crime. | 0:03:50 | 0:03:57
Thanks, | 0:03:57 | 0:03:57
Thanks, James. | 0:03:57 | 0:03:58
Thanks, James. Next: | 0:03:58 | 0:04:00
Bulldogs and pugs are becoming more and more popular as pets. | 0:04:00 | 0:04:03
But now vets are warning that the demand for these types | 0:04:03 | 0:04:05
of flat-faced breeds of dogs is harming their health. | 0:04:05 | 0:04:07
Many dogs suffer with breathing problems and some owners | 0:04:07 | 0:04:10
are choosing to abandon them rather than pay vets' bills. | 0:04:10 | 0:04:12
The predominant thing with this breed that we see problems | 0:04:12 | 0:04:14
with is something called Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway | 0:04:14 | 0:04:16
Syndrome, which is a posh way of saying that because they have got | 0:04:16 | 0:04:19
a really short nose that we have bred into them, as a result, | 0:04:19 | 0:04:22
they have breathing difficulties, which you can hear now. | 0:04:22 | 0:04:25
Owners frequently are not aware of a problem with their dogs, | 0:04:25 | 0:04:27
they perhaps just accept that the dogs are like this. | 0:04:27 | 0:04:29
If you have one of these dogs, you will be aware of the problem. | 0:04:29 | 0:04:33
They are usually snorers, again people find it quite cute, | 0:04:33 | 0:04:35
but that is a sign, often struggle at exercise, | 0:04:35 | 0:04:37
they have quite poor tolerance and get tired out very quickly. | 0:04:37 | 0:04:44
Before I go, head online to give us your questions for Paralympic | 0:04:44 | 0:04:47
champions Sarah Storey and Ellie Simmonds, as we'll be | 0:04:47 | 0:04:49
chatting to them later. | 0:04:49 | 0:04:51
That's all from me. | 0:04:51 | 0:04:53
Newsround's back right here in about half an hour. | 0:04:53 | 0:04:56 |
