Good afternoon, Jenny here with all the top stories

0:00:040:00:06

from around the world, this Friday.

0:00:060:00:09

We've got loads for you, so let's get started.

0:00:090:00:12

Find out how you play ping pong on the International Space Station.

0:00:120:00:16

And the goat who thinks it's a dog.

0:00:160:00:19

First - dog poo can be big issue in some parks and streets.

0:00:290:00:32

Now science is being used, in one part of London,

0:00:320:00:36

to tackle the problem of horrible, well, you-know -what.

0:00:360:00:40

Here's Ricky.

0:00:400:00:44

Dog poo.

0:00:440:00:46

It's pretty gross, isn't it?

0:00:460:00:48

You are having a nice stroll in the park when all of a sudden,

0:00:480:00:51

you come across it.

0:00:510:00:56

Don't you hate it when people don't clear up their dog's mess?

0:00:560:00:58

If only there was a way of finding out who did this.

0:00:580:01:01

I think this might be a job for the DPIU,

0:01:010:01:04

that is the Dog Poo Investigations Unit.

0:01:040:01:14

OK, so there is no such thing as a Dog Poo Investigations Unit,

0:01:160:01:19

but one local council in London is getting tough on dog doo-doo.

0:01:190:01:22

Barking and Dagenham Council have launched a scheme to test dog poo

0:01:220:01:25

to try and catch owners who fail to clear up after their pets.

0:01:250:01:32

Park Rangers will collect up samples of dog mess and send it off to a lab

0:01:320:01:36

for DNA testing.

0:01:360:01:37

The scientists will be comparing the DNA found in the samples

0:01:370:01:40

with a list of registered dogs and the owner will be tracked

0:01:400:01:43

down and fined.

0:01:430:01:44

Getting DNA from dogs involves a simple swap taking just a few

0:01:440:01:47

seconds, and will also help if the dog is ever lost.

0:01:470:01:49

But at the moment, registering for the scheme is voluntary,

0:01:490:01:52

and some people think not all pet owners will sign up.

0:01:520:01:55

A responsible dog owner will always walk around with a bag to pick up

0:01:550:01:58

whatever is necessary.

0:01:580:01:59

I just think it is a waste of money.

0:01:590:02:08

It is not realistic at all, in all honesty.

0:02:080:02:10

It is not going to work.

0:02:100:02:11

Barking Council say the doggy forensics will help keep the area

0:02:110:02:14

cleaner and mess free and wants other councils to follow suit.

0:02:140:02:16

So was this idea barking mad or will it stop owners

0:02:160:02:19

and their dogs from leaving this mess behind?

0:02:190:02:21

I tell you what, I am going home, that is enough dog poo for me today.

0:02:210:02:30

In the north east of America people have been told to get ready

0:02:300:02:33

for a major winter storm.

0:02:330:02:35

Around 50 million people could be affected by the so called "monster

0:02:350:02:37

storm," which is expected to cause terrible blizzards and white-out

0:02:370:02:42

conditions in some states, and bring traffic to a standstill.

0:02:420:02:47

Many schools have been closed today and up to 60 centimetres of snow

0:02:470:02:50

is expected in some areas over the weekend.

0:02:500:02:52

Where the Loch Ness Monster might be hiding is a question that's puzzled

0:02:520:02:56

people for hundreds of years.

0:02:560:02:59

But a new discovery might just help solve the mystery.

0:02:590:03:03

Eight miles east of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands

0:03:030:03:05

lies Loch Ness.

0:03:050:03:07

A beautiful sight, but what lurks beneath the surface?

0:03:070:03:17

There have been lots of supposed sightings of what has been

0:03:170:03:26

There have been lots of supposed sightings of what has been nicknamed

0:03:260:03:29

Nessie and endless theories

0:03:290:03:31

about what he or she might look like

0:03:310:03:33

and where the monster might live.

0:03:330:03:35

It's led to quite a few missions to try to work out what's

0:03:350:03:38

going on, all unsuccessful.

0:03:380:03:39

Now, a retired fisherman, Keith Stewart, is using special

0:03:390:03:42

sonar equipment to look for the hiding place.

0:03:420:03:44

Until now, the loch was thought to be 229.8 metres deep,

0:03:440:03:46

but by measuring signals sent from his boat to different

0:03:460:03:48

locations, he says he's discovered a crevice that goes much deeper,

0:03:480:03:51

to 270.9 metres.

0:03:510:03:52

According to him, that's plenty of room for a monster to hang out.

0:03:520:03:55

The findings haven't been officially checked yet,

0:03:550:03:57

but it's got a lot of people talking about whether we are a step closer

0:03:570:04:01

to meeting Scotland's most famous monster.

0:04:010:04:11

Comedian Jo Brand started her big challenge for Sport Relief today.

0:04:120:04:15

She's walking 150 miles in total, across England, starting from Hull

0:04:150:04:17

this morning and heading to Liverpool.

0:04:170:04:19

She'll walk around 60,000 steps each day.

0:04:190:04:21

Sounds exhausting.

0:04:210:04:23

Good luck, Jo!

0:04:230:04:25

Here at Newsround we love finding out about life on board

0:04:250:04:28

the International Space Station.

0:04:280:04:29

American astronaut, Scott Kelly, has been demonstrating how you can

0:04:290:04:31

still play table tennis in space, with special bats and,

0:04:310:04:35

of course - water for a ball.

0:04:350:04:38

Wow.

0:04:380:04:41

Before we go, meet Hobo, now, he is a goat but...

0:04:410:04:45

He acts just like a dog.

0:04:450:04:47

He loves going for walks and he even wags his tail.

0:04:470:04:50

His best friends are his owners' two dogs.

0:04:500:04:53

That's all from the team today, but Newsround is back,

0:04:530:04:55

right here on CBBC, tomorrow morning at 8.55.

0:04:550:04:59

Have a lovely evening.
