Hello and welcome to your Newsround headlines with me Hayley. | :00:00. | :00:00.
We've got the best goals from out in Brazil, plus... | :00:07. | :00:08.
First, to something many of you may be eating or drinking today - sugar. | :00:09. | :00:22.
Scientists are worried that too much of it is making kids obese, | :00:23. | :00:25.
so now they want to make you pay more for it. | :00:26. | :00:30.
Action on Sugar say that this is one of the biggest problems | :00:31. | :00:33.
They say that one in five 10 to 11-year-olds in the UK is now obese, | :00:34. | :00:40.
They think that by making you pay more for the food with sugar in it | :00:41. | :00:54.
They also want to ban any junk food sponsorship of sports | :00:55. | :00:58.
and stop adverts of sugary food being targeted at kids. | :00:59. | :01:01.
What we're calling on is the soft drink industry and Jeremy Hunt | :01:02. | :01:04.
in the Dept of Health to gradually reduce the huge amounts of sugar, | :01:05. | :01:07.
like we have done with salt, and get sugar intake down and this will | :01:08. | :01:10.
According to the research done by Action on Sugars, most cans of fizzy | :01:11. | :01:15.
drinks contain 6 spoonfuls of sugar - and some can contain up to 15. | :01:16. | :01:27.
They hope by taxing high-sugar food and drinks, that the amount of sugar | :01:28. | :01:32.
The Swiss Alps in Europe are famous for adventure | :01:33. | :01:57.
sports but there's one in particular which is causing some controversy. | :01:58. | :02:01.
Base jumping involves leaping with a parachute from high platforms | :02:02. | :02:04.
Some critics argue that it's too dangerous - and should be better | :02:05. | :02:09.
Its fans say it's the ultimate experience, and that you should | :02:10. | :02:15.
If you are not thinking about the risk everything you jump, | :02:16. | :02:20.
It is something you need to assess every time. | :02:21. | :02:25.
Also, people don't want to die. They don't come here thinking, | :02:26. | :02:28.
I will go try to kill myself today, that is not the goal at all. | :02:29. | :02:31.
Next to the World Cup in Brazil, where this German striker has | :02:32. | :02:36.
cemented his place in football's history books. | :02:37. | :02:40.
Miroslav Klose equalled the record of 15 goals at | :02:41. | :02:42.
World Cups, as Germany came from behind to draw 2-2 with Ghana. | :02:43. | :02:46.
Elsewhere, Argentina booked their place | :02:47. | :02:49.
in the last 16 but their opponents Iran didn't make it easy for them. | :02:50. | :02:53.
However, the Iranians couldn't stop this wonderful 91st minute strike | :02:54. | :02:55.
from Lionel Messi, which clinched victory. | :02:56. | :02:57.
Finally, Nigeria knocked out Bosnia-Herzegovina beating them 1-0. | :02:58. | :03:03.
And if you like your World Cup commentary a little bit, well, | :03:04. | :03:06.
alternative, here's Wigan's finest with news | :03:07. | :03:09.
of a very "special" commentary during this afternoon's match. | :03:10. | :03:18.
Today, 5pm, Belgian play Russia. Pressure red button. That is your | :03:19. | :03:27.
red button, to join me, Wigan's best commentator. My friend will be | :03:28. | :03:33.
joining me also. We will be talking all things football. I will talk | :03:34. | :03:37.
about meat paste and Sue Barker and that. That is today at five p.m.. | :03:38. | :03:47.
Pressure red but in! -- press your red but in! | :03:48. | :03:50.
If you had the chance to solve a big problem in the world, | :03:51. | :03:53.
The Longitude Prize is a huge science challenge | :03:54. | :03:56.
and voting is taking place to decide which of the six big world problems | :03:57. | :03:59.
scientists should tackle for a chance to win ?10 million. | :04:00. | :04:01.
This week we've looked at all six problems, and today it's dementia - | :04:02. | :04:05.
how can we help people with dementia live independently for longer? | :04:06. | :04:07.
A benefit of modern medicine is that more | :04:08. | :04:11.
and more of us are living longer but an ageing population brings its | :04:12. | :04:14.
own challenges, in particular caring for those living with dementia. | :04:15. | :04:18.
Dementia is a condition that affects the brain. | :04:19. | :04:20.
And gradually people lose the ability to remember things, they | :04:21. | :04:23.
get confused, they get disorientated and struggle to communicate. | :04:24. | :04:25.
As the condition gets worse, people can lose | :04:26. | :04:28.
the ability to do things we all take for granted like getting dressed | :04:29. | :04:31.
It can be difficult not only for the individual but also for | :04:32. | :04:37.
We are a long way off for a treatment and a cure but it is | :04:38. | :04:43.
hoped technology can be a huge help in caring for people with dementia. | :04:44. | :04:47.
At Birmingham University, researchers have created this robot | :04:48. | :04:50.
carer that can learn where someone leaves the slippers or keys and uses | :04:51. | :04:56.
The robot can monitor the positions of people, looking to | :04:57. | :05:03.
It can remind people or notify carers that someone has forgotten to | :05:04. | :05:07.
take their medicine if they have not got up at the time they should. | :05:08. | :05:12.
With today's technology, what the robot can do is restricted. | :05:13. | :05:15.
Stairs are a problem, his arms can't do too much and his ability | :05:16. | :05:20.
But it is hoped as robotics advances, a robot carer | :05:21. | :05:26.
So if dementia gets chosen for the Longitude Prize, | :05:27. | :05:32.
the challenge is to find a way to help people with dementia live | :05:33. | :05:35.
-- live as independently as possible for as long as possible. | :05:36. | :05:50.
Well, not according to judges who've crowned him the World's Ugliest Dog! | :05:51. | :05:53.
The annual contest in America includes lots of rescue animals | :05:54. | :05:55.
and aims to raise awareness of animal cruelty. | :05:56. | :05:57.
