See you.

0:00:010:00:01

Good morning, I'm Ricky and you're with Newsround.

0:00:110:00:15

First - demolition is starting today on one of the biggest migrant

0:00:150:00:18

and refugee camps in Europe.

0:00:180:00:20

Many people have been living in the camp while they try

0:00:200:00:24

to travel to the UK.

0:00:240:00:25

So what happens to them now?

0:00:250:00:30

This is the Calais migrant camp, also known as the Jungle.

0:00:300:00:35

For thousands of people, it's somewhere they called

0:00:350:00:37

home, but not any more.

0:00:370:00:40

Over the last few years, this makeshift camp,

0:00:400:00:43

made from tents and huts, has been getting bigger.

0:00:430:00:52

Conditions inside the camp are poor, and lots of those

0:00:520:00:54

affected are children.

0:00:540:00:56

According to charities, around 10,000 migrants,

0:00:560:00:57

including 1000 children, have settled here.

0:00:570:01:00

Many have escaped war and poverty in countries like Syria,

0:01:000:01:03

Afghanistan and parts of Africa.

0:01:030:01:08

Local people in Calais have been campaigning

0:01:080:01:11

for the Jungle to close down, and the French government

0:01:110:01:14

have been criticised.

0:01:140:01:17

The reason thousands of migrants have travelled to Calais

0:01:170:01:20

is because it's close to the UK.

0:01:200:01:22

Many believe they would have a better quality-of-life here.

0:01:220:01:25

Some try to jump on the back of lorries and hide on board ferries

0:01:250:01:28

heading to England.

0:01:280:01:29

The journey is dangerous and illegal.

0:01:290:01:33

Earlier this year, authorities in France announced

0:01:330:01:35

they would close the camp.

0:01:350:01:38

They want to move the remaining migrants to official

0:01:380:01:42

centres all over France, where they say the conditions will

0:01:420:01:45

better, but many of the migrants and refugees don't want to go.

0:01:450:01:51

Around 100 children from the camp, some of whom have family

0:01:510:01:55

in the UK and some who don't, are being bought here

0:01:550:01:58

to start a new life.

0:01:580:02:00

The camps will be completely demolished by the end of this year.

0:02:000:02:03

It's still unclear where all the migrants will go and some groups

0:02:030:02:07

say they're still worried for the welfare of those who risked

0:02:070:02:10

everything to get here.

0:02:100:02:13

If you want to know more about the children

0:02:130:02:16

who are travelling by themselves across Europe, we have a guide

0:02:160:02:18

on Newsround online.

0:02:180:02:21

And if you are upset by this story or by anything in the news,

0:02:210:02:25

there's advice too.

0:02:250:02:27

Next to schoolkids trying to build and race the fastest car they can.

0:02:270:02:30

Want to know more?

0:02:300:02:33

Here's one of them to explain.

0:02:330:02:38

This is Bloodhound.

0:02:380:02:40

A year from now, it will be attempting to reach 1000 mph,

0:02:400:02:49

breaking the landspeed record, travelling faster than

0:02:490:02:50

the speed of sound.

0:02:500:02:51

Today, we're building our very own Bloodhound.

0:02:510:02:53

My name's Alex, and me and my classmates are part of a big

0:02:530:02:56

competition to build the fastest foam car in the UK.

0:02:560:03:02

First, we've got to design our car.

0:03:020:03:05

The aim is to make it as fast as possible.

0:03:050:03:08

Ours won't be as fast as the Bloodhound.

0:03:080:03:09

That's what the teachers hope, anyway.

0:03:090:03:12

I think this is going to be the winning idea.

0:03:120:03:16

Once we've added the wheels and wings, all that's

0:03:160:03:19

left to do is name it.

0:03:190:03:24

I think we should call it Steven The Angel.

0:03:240:03:26

I like it.

0:03:260:03:27

We've built our car now.

0:03:270:03:29

I think I fancy our chances.

0:03:290:03:37

Thank you.

0:03:370:03:38

Check that out.

0:03:380:03:40

Everybody, here we go.

0:03:400:03:42

Five, four, three, two, one!

0:03:420:03:47

Big round of applause for Lightning Star, car

0:03:520:03:57

number one, at 47.2.

0:03:570:04:00

Unfortunately we lost and Lightning Star won

0:04:000:04:03

with 47 miles-an-hour, but it's been a great experience

0:04:030:04:06

and I had lots of fun.

0:04:060:04:07

Bye, Newsround.

0:04:070:04:08

THEY SHOUT: Newsround!

0:04:080:04:13

OK, time to find out what happenned over on Strictly

0:04:130:04:15

and The X Factor last night.

0:04:150:04:17

First up - Strictly.

0:04:170:04:18

Daisy Lowe and actress Lesley Joesph were in the dance-off on Sunday.

0:04:180:04:22

Both celebs got the lowest number of votes from the public.

0:04:220:04:26

In the end, the judges decided to let Lesley go.

0:04:260:04:29

On The X Factor, Relley C and Four Of Diamonds faced each

0:04:290:04:32

other in the sing-off.

0:04:320:04:34

A strong performance from both acts, but the judges decided

0:04:340:04:36

to save the girl band and send Relley C home.

0:04:360:04:40

And the Radio One Teen Awards took place last night.

0:04:400:04:42

Little Mix and 1D's Niall were there.

0:04:420:04:47

The 'Most Entertaining Celeb' award went to Taylor Swift,

0:04:470:04:49

and Dan and Phil won the 'Best Vloggers' award.

0:04:490:04:57

That's all for now - see you back here at 8.15am.

0:04:570:05:00

Bye.
