Good afternoon, it's Hayley here with your Thursday afternoon

:00:00.:00:00.

More child refugees from the Middle Eastern country

:00:00.:00:18.

of Syria will be allowed to come to the UK to live.

:00:19.:00:21.

The Government will invite kids who've been separated

:00:22.:00:23.

from their families and are currently living in refugee

:00:24.:00:25.

camps, not those who've already made the journey to Europe.

:00:26.:00:27.

War and conflict in Syria in the Middle East has sent

:00:28.:00:37.

thousands of people, many of them children,

:00:38.:00:39.

looking for safety in other countries.

:00:40.:00:42.

Some have travelled to Europe, making the dangerous journey

:00:43.:00:44.

Children can get split up from their families and end

:00:45.:00:48.

Others are living in refugee camps in countries neighbouring Syria -

:00:49.:00:53.

Here they live in tents and shelters.

:00:54.:00:58.

Last year the Government said that it would allow 20,000 people

:00:59.:01:01.

from camps like these to live in the UK.

:01:02.:01:05.

Today they've said more children who have been separated

:01:06.:01:07.

from their families will also be able to come.

:01:08.:01:13.

The Government's already said it will take 20,000 refugees and

:01:14.:01:19.

resettle them in the United Kingdom over the next five years. But

:01:20.:01:24.

they've come under pressure to do more, especially for children,

:01:25.:01:26.

who've travelled to Europe on their own. Today Ministers responded to

:01:27.:01:30.

that. They said they would give more help, but they are not putting a

:01:31.:01:35.

precise figure on it. They want to focus on those children who've in

:01:36.:01:39.

camps around Syria, in countries like Jordan and Lebanon. Ministers

:01:40.:01:44.

say what they don't want to do is to encourage more families to make a

:01:45.:01:48.

very dangerous journey across Europe. Our political parties such

:01:49.:01:52.

as Labour say they need to help the children who are already here in

:01:53.:01:56.

Europe. They say they need our help, too. Some charities like Save the

:01:57.:02:00.

Children are worried. The war in Syria has been going on nearly five

:02:01.:02:03.

years now. That's a really long time. Lots of children have already

:02:04.:02:09.

thread that area to try to escape it. It is good news that the

:02:10.:02:12.

Government wants to help those children but it is important they

:02:13.:02:14.

help the children who've already fled and made their way to Europe.

:02:15.:02:18.

The details are not clear but more vulnerable children will be able to

:02:19.:02:22.

start a new life in the UK. However, there are still big worries that

:02:23.:02:26.

there are many thousands more already in Europe still at risk.

:02:27.:02:32.

Did you know that around the country right now there are thousands

:02:33.:02:35.

of children like you caring for their mum or dad?

:02:36.:02:37.

They're called young carers and take on a lot of the jobs around

:02:38.:02:41.

They do this because their mum or dad isn't well enough to do

:02:42.:02:45.

Charlotte is a young carer who looks after her mum.

:02:46.:02:48.

One of the first elements I remember about caring for my mum was she

:02:49.:03:03.

never used to be able to do the things other mumgs would do. Often

:03:04.:03:07.

things would become way too much for for her and she would have to lie

:03:08.:03:11.

down and withdraw. As a kid that would make me feel bad, so I try to

:03:12.:03:16.

make her happy and draw stuff for her to lighten her mood. I would see

:03:17.:03:20.

other mums lifting up their kids and going running with them. I would be

:03:21.:03:24.

like, why can't mum do that for me? There was an absence of this kind of

:03:25.:03:29.

fun-loving mumming that I used to know. But she couldn't help it. I

:03:30.:03:35.

don't blame her for that but I knew something wasn't that. A certain

:03:36.:03:39.

teacher that really helped me realise that something was wrong.

:03:40.:03:42.

She was one of the first people I ever told and I got support that I

:03:43.:03:48.

needed. I just broke down in tears. I want sad. Sad. It was the realise

:03:49.:03:53.

that that was what's wrong. That the point there was just kind of a, oh

:03:54.:03:59.

my God, that's what's wrong She nodded ot me and said, that's OK,

:04:00.:04:02.

and we are going to work through this. It sounds really cliched but

:04:03.:04:09.

at that moment I really didn't feel like I was completely alone any

:04:10.:04:12.

more. There's a lot of experiences to be had. Some of them are going to

:04:13.:04:18.

be good and some bad. But that's OK, as being a young carer made me who I

:04:19.:04:25.

am. I wouldn't be half as resilient if I hadn't gone through that. I

:04:26.:04:30.

know how to deal with the disappointments and anxieties. I've

:04:31.:04:33.

seen my mum go through it and I've had to go through it with her. Head
