But first, people across the country are celebrating the job

Hundreds of ex-soldiers are involved in a big

parade in Stirling in Scotland with similar events all over the UK.

The day's also being marked at the biggest army base

Now, the knockout rounds of the World Cup

start tonight, but away from the action Newsround's been taking

the time to find out more about the lives of kids living in Brazil.

The amazing backdrops you've seen of Rio's beaches and mountains are only

half the story, with lots of kids living in very poor conditions.

From Rio, Leah's been to chat to one boy about life and hopes in one

One in five of the city's residence live in Othello, their homes packed

together in a sprawling maze. -- favela. The vast majority of people

have electricity and running water. This boy has lived in this Pharrell

his whole life. Can you describe what life is like you?

TRANSLATION: I have freedom to play here, play with kites and play for

both. Some years ago it was not the same because of the crime.

What would you like to do when you grew up?

I would like to be a footballer or a businessman. I would like to make my

family proud. You ever think about life away from

here, moving away, perhaps? Sometimes I would prefer to live on

the streets, but here I have a lot of fun. I can play football. If you

live in a building in the streets, you can party all the streets, you

can party already. What do you think about the World

Cup being on home soil here in Brazil?

I think all the 200 million Brazilians want the Brazil team to

be champions because they must win here. It is not so easy. I can see a

lot of protests during the World Cup because people think we should put

the money into the health system and education.

When you see those protests on the streets, how does it make you feel?

I'm in favour of the protests. But the protests must be peaceful, not

fighting, not breaking windows of shops and markets. We have to change

the health care and education system, but not through fighting.

Can you tell us about how proud you are from growing up here?

I am proud of living here, I have the opportunity to show my culture

and sure that I have leisure time, and they also study. Things have

changed a lot here, because a couple of years ago, if you wanted to go

and buy a cookie, it would be impossible because of the guns and

the shootings. Well, on the pitch

the knockout games start tonight, Hosts Brazil will take on Chile

later while Uruguay play Columbia If the games are level it'll mean

extra time and penalties to decide Roy Hodgson's team are out

of course, but there is one Referee Howard Webb's in charge

of that Brazil game. And you can see what it took

of a fighter jet trying to land The US army's just released footage

of the dramatic moment when one pilot had to try and lower the plane

onto a stool to stop it crashing. This is the way a fighter jet

usually lands. But when a US Marine Captain came in to land, the landing

equipment allowing it to touch down would not work. At this point I was

trying to work out how to get it to land safely.

He was told the only option was to land vertically onto a special

stool. I couldn't see the still. I remember

looking forward and thinking, this is going to get interesting.

Amazingly, he made touchdown. What he didn't realise was that the

team working on the ship had completely evacuated the deck in

case something went wrong. It was a pretty big relief. I didn't

realise how much I was shaking until I got out of the aircraft.

Finally, the rain's threatening play at

Wimbledon today, and the bad weather stopped the show at the Glastonbury

Dance group Rudimental had to end their show early when a bolt

of lightning hit the ground nearby, and the electricity was turned off.
