That's the problem facing a conservation group trying to do	:03:25.	:03:29.
just that in Malawi in south-east Africa.	:03:30.	:03:31.
Up to seven metres long and six tonnes in weight.	:03:32.	:03:43.
The African elephant is the largest land animal	:03:44.	:03:45.
The population is under threat from poaching, when	:03:46.	:03:48.
Another problem is they are less areas suitable for them to live in.	:03:49.	:03:53.
500 elephants in Malawi are being rehoused in a preserve	:03:54.	:03:55.
to give them more space to live and eat.	:03:56.	:03:58.
Sending elephants to a new park is such an	:03:59.	:04:00.
We need to be sure the new habitats they move to is	:04:01.	:04:10.
the right place for elephants and there is plenty of food and lots of	:04:11.	:04:13.
water and a very good fence around the sanctuary.	:04:14.	:04:15.
But moving them is a hefty operation.	:04:16.	:04:17.
They have been tranquillised, so they can sleep and be	:04:18.	:04:21.
They are carefully driven to the new location on large trucks and	:04:22.	:04:29.
monitored to check they are settling in OK.	:04:30.	:04:30.
The great thing about elephants is they are very adaptable	:04:31.	:04:33.
They normally very quickly settle into	:04:34.	:04:37.
The information we have on the elephants already moved	:04:38.	:04:42.
is they are all well settled and no problems	:04:43.	:04:44.
100 years ago an estimated 3.5 million elephants roamed Africa.	:04:45.	:04:53.
It is hoped spreading the population and giving them more space to roam	:04:54.	:05:03.
will mean these mammals will be around for many years to come.	:05:04.	:05:06.
Now there's only eight days to go until the Olympics	:05:07.	:05:09.
