Good morning, I'm Jenny, live with your Newsround update. | :00:00. | :00:00.
The boy who's getting thousands of postcards from all over the world. | :00:00. | :00:19.
Two paws are better than four. This is Newsround. | :00:20. | :00:27.
First up, children in England aren't as satisfied with their lives as | :00:28. | :00:30.
But they're very happy with their groups of friends, their family, | :00:31. | :00:35.
The welfare of 16,000 kids was examined by the Children's Society | :00:36. | :00:40.
in 11 countries including Brazil, Romania and South Africa. | :00:41. | :00:44.
We asked Lily Caprani to tell us more. | :00:45. | :00:48.
We have been studying children's well-being, | :00:49. | :00:50.
and when we talk about that, we mean asking thousands of children | :00:51. | :00:54.
what it is about their lives that makes them good lives or not. | :00:55. | :00:59.
Whether or not they have good hopes for the future or what kind | :01:00. | :01:02.
of things make them feel bad about their lives. | :01:03. | :01:11.
It is surprising that England is a country where we have quite good | :01:12. | :01:14.
money and houses and schools and health but what we have found when | :01:15. | :01:17.
we asked children what they feel, is that they don't do well compared to | :01:18. | :01:21.
other countries even though some of those countries are a lot poorer. | :01:22. | :01:23.
Sometimes children in poorer countries are happier. | :01:24. | :01:25.
When we find out what that is about, we discover it is friendships, | :01:26. | :01:28.
There are other things that matter to children | :01:29. | :01:31.
One of the real problems is that they worry about how they look. | :01:32. | :01:36.
Especially if they think people are judging them or are going to bully | :01:37. | :01:39.
English children generally say they are happiest when they have good, | :01:40. | :01:47.
loving, supportive relationships, and that includes Mum and Dad, | :01:48. | :01:49.
brothers, sisters and friends at school. | :01:50. | :01:54.
On the website you've told us what makes you happy. | :01:55. | :02:08.
Wayne Rooney's the favourite to be named as the new England Captain, | :02:09. | :02:11.
Rooney has 95 caps and has recently been appointed | :02:12. | :02:16.
Next, the seven-year-old who's very popular around the globe. | :02:17. | :02:23.
Josh, who's got leukemia, has received over 2,000 postcards from | :02:24. | :02:26.
Ricky went to meet him to find out more. | :02:27. | :02:36.
Over the summer, the seven-year-old has received almost 2,000 postcards | :02:37. | :02:50.
This is from America, this is from Japan, this is from Australia. | :02:51. | :03:01.
Earlier this year, Josh was diagnosed with leukaemia, | :03:02. | :03:03.
The medicine has made him quite tired. | :03:04. | :03:09.
Since March, he has not been able to attend | :03:10. | :03:12.
school but he was given homework for the holidays and asked to write | :03:13. | :03:15.
about his summer break and send a postcard from wherever he went. | :03:16. | :03:19.
But his cancer treatment meant the family had to cancel their holiday. | :03:20. | :03:23.
With the thought of having to spend the rest of | :03:24. | :03:25.
the summer at home or at hospital, Josh's parents came up with a plan. | :03:26. | :03:34.
We came up with the suggestion from a friend who is a blogger | :03:35. | :03:38.
and on Tuesday morning, 30 postcards came through | :03:39. | :03:40.
Everyday, between 50 and 100 postcards are delivered and they are | :03:41. | :03:47.
New Zealand, China, Greenland, Afghanistan. | :03:48. | :03:54.
It has kept us all busy because we have all been involved | :03:55. | :04:15.
with the postcards, putting them on the map and everything else. | :04:16. | :04:17.
We have really, really enjoyed ourselves. | :04:18. | :04:20.
The project has kept the whole family busy, | :04:21. | :04:23.
Now, this dog in California is a record-breaker. | :04:24. | :04:36.
Jiff, a Pomeranian, is the fastest on two legs and runs ten metres | :04:37. | :04:39.
on his back legs in six and a half seconds and walks five metres on his | :04:40. | :04:43.
He can ride a skateboard and is an internet hit. | :04:44. | :04:55.
He gets lots of attention when he walks up and | :04:56. | :05:01.
He gets lots of attention when he independent and has a lot of | :05:02. | :05:04.
incredible talents but sometimes he just likes a good run in the park. | :05:05. | :05:06. |
