Good morning. | 0:00:02 | 0:00:03
It's me, Hayley, with this morning's news. | 0:00:03 | 0:00:05
Coming up in the next few minutes. | 0:00:05 | 0:00:08
Could our puffins be endangered? | 0:00:08 | 0:00:11
And can you help save our bees? | 0:00:11 | 0:00:14
First, we're heading to the United States where everyone | 0:00:23 | 0:00:27
is talking about who might be the next leader of the country. | 0:00:27 | 0:00:28
Americans will vote for their new President in November, | 0:00:30 | 0:00:33
but there's one person who is making all the headlines at the moment, | 0:00:33 | 0:00:37
Donald Trump. | 0:00:37 | 0:00:39
Here's why. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:40
Who is Donald Trump? | 0:00:40 | 0:00:42
He's one of America's most famous businessmen. | 0:00:42 | 0:00:45
Now he's trying to become the next | 0:00:45 | 0:00:46
President of the United States of America. | 0:00:46 | 0:00:49
You're fired. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:50
OK. Go. | 0:00:50 | 0:00:52
Up until this US election, he was mostly known for being | 0:00:52 | 0:00:55
a reality TV star on the American version of The Apprentice. | 0:00:55 | 0:00:59
If you want to fire me go right ahead. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:01
All right, Gene, you're fired. | 0:01:01 | 0:01:04
But now he has a serious chance of being the next President | 0:01:04 | 0:01:07
and that's attracting huge attention from around the world. | 0:01:07 | 0:01:10
That's because of the things he says which are controversial. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:14
He's been tough on immigration and wants to build a wall | 0:01:14 | 0:01:17
between America and Mexico to stop illegal immigrants from getting in. | 0:01:17 | 0:01:21
I would build a great wall and nobody builds walls better | 0:01:21 | 0:01:24
than me, believe me. | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
He's also called for a ban on Muslims coming into the US. | 0:01:26 | 0:01:30
Trump's message, to make America great again, | 0:01:30 | 0:01:32
has gone down well with lots of voters and they think he's | 0:01:32 | 0:01:35
a strong leader. | 0:01:35 | 0:01:37
But other people are worried, saying Trump is racist and dangerous. | 0:01:37 | 0:01:44
Now there's been violence at some of his big events with clashes | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
breaking out between protesters and his supporters. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:51
Donald Trump's opponents say that he said things | 0:01:51 | 0:01:53
to encourage violence. | 0:01:53 | 0:01:54
He says he hasn't. | 0:01:54 | 0:01:59
A lot of people are worried that this year's election | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
will divide the USA. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:05
There's loads on the US presidential contest online, | 0:02:05 | 0:02:07
including more about everyone still in the race to become | 0:02:07 | 0:02:10
the next US President. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:18
Next, you might not be a fan of creepy crawlies but insects | 0:02:18 | 0:02:21
are essential to the planet's survival. | 0:02:21 | 0:02:24
Numbers are decreasing but now there is a new project that's hoping | 0:02:24 | 0:02:27
to get you involved in saving them. | 0:02:27 | 0:02:32
Insects like these aren't just nice to look at. | 0:02:32 | 0:02:35
They also do a very special job called pollination. | 0:02:35 | 0:02:39
The busy insects are attracted to the flowers which contain | 0:02:39 | 0:02:41
the delicious nectar they like to eat. | 0:02:41 | 0:02:44
Pollen rubs off on to them and they carry it from plant | 0:02:44 | 0:02:48
to plant helping them to reproduce and create seeds. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:53
But the numbers of these pollinating insects have been decreasing. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:57
The big threat to the pollinating insects has been the loss | 0:02:57 | 0:03:01
of habitat, the loss of homes for nature. | 0:03:01 | 0:03:06
That has proved changes in farming which has had more chemicals | 0:03:06 | 0:03:09
and less space for wildlife to flourish because they need | 0:03:09 | 0:03:13
to create more and more crop on the same amount of ground. | 0:03:13 | 0:03:17
Without insects like butterflies and bumblebees, a lot of the plants | 0:03:17 | 0:03:20
would no longer exist and this could have a big impact | 0:03:20 | 0:03:23
on the environment, animals and even on us. | 0:03:23 | 0:03:27
Now a special scheme has been set up to teach us how to look | 0:03:27 | 0:03:31
after these important creatures. | 0:03:31 | 0:03:33
So the Pollination Project wants you guys to learn more | 0:03:33 | 0:03:36
about pollinating insects plus planting more seeds | 0:03:36 | 0:03:39
which will create more flowers for them. | 0:03:39 | 0:03:41
They also want you to keep a log of all the insects that you see | 0:03:41 | 0:03:45
in your schools and local areas. | 0:03:45 | 0:03:47
If there weren't any pollinators like bees, | 0:03:47 | 0:03:49
butterflies and beetles, then there wouldn't be any flowers | 0:03:49 | 0:03:52
because they take pollen to the next flowers to make more flowers. | 0:03:52 | 0:03:58
When I found out how important pollen was, | 0:03:58 | 0:04:00
it was a real big shock to me because it makes the world as pretty | 0:04:00 | 0:04:04
as it is now and it produces food for us. | 0:04:04 | 0:04:08
If we don't think about it, we will struggle to improve our environment. | 0:04:08 | 0:04:13
So far, 260 schools across the UK have already signed up and it's | 0:04:13 | 0:04:18
hoped that, with their help, insect numbers will increase. | 0:04:18 | 0:04:25
Finally, experts are keeping a very close on these birds this year. | 0:04:25 | 0:04:30
Puffins are now considered a threatened species, | 0:04:30 | 0:04:34
which means their numbers are getting dangerously low. | 0:04:34 | 0:04:37
So this year a big count is under way to try to work out how | 0:04:37 | 0:04:41
many are left. | 0:04:41 | 0:04:42
It's hoped that by keeping an eye on the birds, | 0:04:42 | 0:04:45
experts can work out how to help them. | 0:04:45 | 0:04:48
That's all from me. | 0:04:48 | 0:04:49
Newsround's back right here in about half an hour. | 0:04:49 | 0:04:53
Bye! | 0:04:53 | 0:04:55 |
