It's Wednesday morning, Ayshah here live with Newsround.

:00:00.:00:00.

Here's what's coming up: The dramatic rescue attempt

:00:00.:00:07.

And the story of the amazing men from India who fought

:00:08.:00:13.

Tennis first, and Britain's number one Andy Murray has beaten fellow

:00:14.:00:27.

Brit Liam Broady in the opening round at Wimbledon.

:00:28.:00:31.

It took Murray just one hour and 43 minutes to end

:00:32.:00:33.

the 22 year old's first match on Centre Court,

:00:34.:00:37.

Murray will now face Yen-Hsun Lu in the second round on Thursday.

:00:38.:00:44.

Murray was pretty happy with his first round performance

:00:45.:00:46.

First matches are always tricky. It was pretty breezy at the beginning.

:00:47.:01:00.

Obviously merely have never played each other before although we

:01:01.:01:03.

practised a lot. It is not easy playing someone you know. I did OK.

:01:04.:01:07.

And in the women's draw, Johanna Konta is back in action

:01:08.:01:10.

Johanna was doing quite well against Monica Puig,

:01:11.:01:13.

She starts back on Court One at one this afternoon.

:01:14.:01:18.

100 years ago, Britain was in the middle of the biggest

:01:19.:01:21.

World War One was between Britain and Germany, and was also fought

:01:22.:01:29.

So how did tens of thousands of Indian soldiers,

:01:30.:01:32.

from the other side of world, end up fighting someone else's war?

:01:33.:01:35.

100 years ago Britain was one of the biggest wars the world had ever

:01:36.:01:56.

seen. I am at the War Memorial which remembers the soldiers who fought

:01:57.:01:59.

and died here fighting on the British side. Not every soldier came

:02:00.:02:03.

from Britain. Lots were from many different parts of the world. One of

:02:04.:02:08.

the countries that played a big part in helping was India. I think they

:02:09.:02:13.

were all heroes. They were really brave. They risked their lives to

:02:14.:02:19.

save Britain. We would not have freedom if it was not for them. I

:02:20.:02:24.

could not have left everything behind to go somewhere different. In

:02:25.:02:31.

1918, Britain was at war. They needed millions of soldiers to

:02:32.:02:34.

fight. At the time Britain built lots of countries around the world.

:02:35.:02:39.

One of those countries was India. Back then it included not only

:02:40.:02:42.

modern India but countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan. They wanted

:02:43.:02:47.

to be seen representing the British Empire. The bigot incentive on

:02:48.:02:52.

completion was to get their independence and run the country by

:02:53.:02:56.

themselves. -- the bigger incentive. More than a million men left India

:02:57.:03:00.

and travelled thousands of miles to fight alongside the world, including

:03:01.:03:04.

here in France. Many would not return. This man was one of those

:03:05.:03:13.

soldiers. He joined the Indian army straight out of school. He fought

:03:14.:03:19.

here in France. On the 10th of March in 1915, he and his fellow soldiers

:03:20.:03:22.

were about to go into their first major battle because at the time

:03:23.:03:26.

this village was controlled by the Germans. The British Army's job was

:03:27.:03:32.

to drive them out. Caught in the middle of this huge battle was a

:03:33.:03:37.

British soldier, Captain George Henderson. Badly wounded and in

:03:38.:03:45.

desperate need of help. Mange it refused to leave a fellow soldier B

:03:46.:03:50.

final -- behind. He grabbed Captain George, slung him in a wheelbarrow

:03:51.:03:55.

and rushed him away to safety. It ultimately saved his fellow

:03:56.:04:00.

soldier's life. But while saving him Mantou was shot and died from his

:04:01.:04:07.

injuries. He is a hero. An extremely brave and courageous man. He has

:04:08.:04:14.

chosen someone else's life over his. He was just one of the many who came

:04:15.:04:18.

to fight alongside the British. This monument remembers the sacrifices

:04:19.:04:22.

those Indian soldiers made for Britain. But over the years their

:04:23.:04:27.

bravery and loyalty has almost been forgotten. So how should we remember

:04:28.:04:33.

them? I think their story should be told and people should learn it in

:04:34.:04:39.

class. It is a big part of history. If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't

:04:40.:04:46.

be here living our lives how we are. I want to know my ancestors, if they

:04:47.:04:51.

had been in the war, because I want to acknowledge that they were brave.

:04:52.:04:57.

I feel really proud because I am a seek and there were seats fighting

:04:58.:05:03.

in that war as well. For all I know one of my ancestors was there. It is

:05:04.:05:06.

very special. On Friday I will be back here

:05:07.:05:12.

because there is a special event taking place marking 100 years since

:05:13.:05:17.

the battle took place. I will be giving you some special report on

:05:18.:05:20.

Thursday as well. In the meantime, head online where we have got loads

:05:21.:05:26.

of World War I and the Battle of the Somme. For now, back to the studio.

:05:27.:05:28.

Last up, to the rescue of a blue whale in California in the US.

:05:29.:05:31.

It was caught in a fishing line near the shore.

:05:32.:05:34.

Marine experts got close enough to cut some of the rope away,

:05:35.:05:36.

but there's still some left. They'll try to help again today.

:05:37.:05:41.

That's all from me and the team this morning.

:05:42.:05:45.

Newsround's back this afternoonat 4:20pm.

:05:46.:05:46.

Go online for all the latest. We'll see you soon.
